Google does not provide a setting to turn off AI Overviews in core Search. For a search without them, choose Web on the results page; this switches that search to text-based links. The separate Search Labs setting for AI in Search controls experiments, not core AI Overviews.
Why am I seeing an AI Overview?
Google says its systems show an AI Overview when they determine that generative AI may be especially helpful for a search—for example, when someone wants to understand information from a range of sources. That does not mean every query will produce one. Availability is also limited to the countries, territories, and languages Google lists on its AI Overviews availability page; the supported list can change.

What sources does an AI Overview use?
Google describes an AI Overview as an AI-generated snapshot of key information with links to dig deeper. Those links point to supporting web information, but Google’s Help page on AI features in Search does not explain a complete source-selection or ranking formula. The links should not be treated as proof that every input to the generated text is shown, or that Google has independently validated every linked page.

Can I turn off AI Overviews?
No full off switch for core AI Overviews is documented. Google says they are part of core Search and that “Features cannot be turned off.” Its built-in alternative is the Web filter, which displays text-based links without features such as AI Overviews for the current results view.

- On the results page, select Web in the filter row. If it is not visible, look under More.
This changes how that search’s results are displayed; it is not a persistent setting that disables AI Overviews across Search.
What does the Search Labs “AI in Search” toggle do?
Search Labs controls participation in experiments, separately from core Search features. Turning off AI in Search does not turn off core AI Overviews.

- On a computer, sign in to your Google Account and make sure Incognito is off.
- Open a new tab, select Labs, then Manage.
- Toggle off AI in Search.
Google documents this as an opt-out from Labs experiments, not as a way to remove AI Overviews from core Search. Google also notes that Search settings are being updated, so labels or placement may vary by region, language, account, and device.

No. Google warns that AI responses and AI Overviews can make mistakes. For important information, check more than one source: open the overview’s links, compare other Search results, and verify consequential claims independently rather than relying on the generated summary alone.

How do I report an inaccurate AI Overview?
Use the thumbs-down control on the overview and select Report a problem, then describe the issue and submit. Google also documents a feedback route in the overview’s three-dot menu. Its Help page says submitted feedback includes your most recent search query and its results.
