The feature is available for Search campaigns and adds qualification data to downloads, webhooks and API records, plus a dedicated conversion action named Lead form – Response qualified (Google-hosted).
What Google Ads lead qualification does
When you add a qualifying question to a Google-hosted lead form, you choose one or more answers that represent a sales-ready prospect. A person who submits an answer you marked as qualifying receives a qualified-lead tag in the lead data. Answers that do not match your selected criteria remain submissions but are not tagged as qualified.

This is documented as rule-based qualification by selected answers. Google’s documentation does not establish a machine-learning score that ranks every lead or predicts conversion probability. In practice, the feature is closer to an eligibility rule inside the ad form than to an external CRM scoring model.
Campaigns and forms that support the feature
Google’s help documentation limits qualifying responses to Search campaigns. Google’s 2025 lead-generation announcement described qualifying and conditional responses as Search lead-form improvements and labeled them available globally. Availability can still depend on account eligibility and the form configuration.
#1 Best Overall
Lead-form serving requires conversion-focused bidding, optimization toward a Google lead-form conversion goal and an eligible responsive-search-ad setup. Check those requirements before troubleshooting a missing form or unavailable question type.
How to configure qualifying answers
- In Google Ads, open the Search campaign that will use the lead form and create or edit a lead form asset.
- Add a multiple-choice question or create a custom question that reveals need, interest or purchase readiness. For example, a service company could ask which project timeline the person needs.
- Mark one or more answers as qualifying. A qualifying question is required; it cannot be left optional.
- Save the form and attach it to the eligible responsive search ad configuration.
- Confirm that the campaign uses conversion-focused bidding and a Google lead-form conversion goal.
- Submit a controlled test lead, then inspect the downloaded record or delivery payload for the qualified-lead stage and verify the conversion action named Lead form – Response qualified (Google-hosted) appears in reporting.
If an existing form has no qualifying questions, Google says you may need to create a new form rather than simply switching on qualification for that older form.
What data is delivered to your systems
Qualified status is included as a lead stage in Google’s lead data. Google documents five delivery routes:

- CSV download: export leads from Google Ads for spreadsheet or batch processing.
- Email notifications: receive alerts when submissions arrive, subject to the account’s notification settings.
- Google Ads API: retrieve lead records and their stage programmatically.
- Webhook: send each submission to an endpoint for immediate processing.
- Zapier: route lead events into supported business applications.
Google stores lead-form leads for 60 days. Export or synchronize records promptly if your sales or compliance workflow requires a longer history.
How this differs from ordinary forms and CRM scoring
| Capability | Google qualifying responses | Ordinary lead form | External CRM scoring |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where qualification happens | Inside the Google-hosted form, at submission | No qualification rule, or basic data collection | After the lead is delivered to a CRM or automation system |
| Campaign eligibility | Search campaigns only, according to Google’s documentation | Depends on the form and campaign type | Independent of campaign type once data is received |
| Question requirement | At least one required qualifying question | Questions may be optional | Rules can use form answers plus CRM activity |
| Output | Lead stage identifying a qualified response and a dedicated conversion action | Lead submission details | Scores, segments or lifecycle stages defined by the CRM |
| Delivery | CSV, email, API, webhook or Zapier | Available lead-delivery methods | CRM-native workflows and integrations |
| Retention | Google documents 60 days for stored leads | Google’s documented retention applies to stored lead records | Retention set by your CRM and policies |
Reporting and conversion feedback
An active qualifying question adds the conversion action Lead form – Response qualified (Google-hosted). You can use that action to distinguish a form completion from a response that met your declared qualification rule. Make sure bidding and optimization settings reference the intended lead-form conversion goal; otherwise, the campaign may continue optimizing for all submissions instead of qualified responses.
Google’s reported performance figure
Google reported a 48% average increase in conversions at a similar cost per acquisition in internal data covering April 5 through May 9, 2025. The figure was presented in Google’s global 2025 lead-generation material. It is a Google-reported internal result, not an independently audited benchmark, and it should not be treated as a guaranteed outcome for every account, industry or bidding setup.
Common implementation problems
The qualifying option is missing
Confirm that the asset belongs to a Search campaign, that the ad configuration is eligible, and that conversion-focused bidding and a Google lead-form conversion goal are active. If the form predates the feature and contains no qualifying question, create a new form.
Leads arrive without a qualified stage
Check that at least one answer is marked qualifying and that the test submission selected that answer. Then inspect the API, webhook or CSV field carrying the lead stage rather than relying only on an email notification.
Qualified leads are not influencing bidding
Verify that Lead form – Response qualified (Google-hosted) is recorded and included in the conversion goal used for optimization. A campaign optimized for a different action will not automatically prioritize this stage.

Older leads are unavailable
Google’s 60-day storage window means records can disappear from the lead-management interface after that period. Schedule regular CSV exports or an API/webhook sync.

- Ask one required question that genuinely separates sales-ready prospects from casual interest.
- Mark only answers that your sales process can act on; overly broad rules make the qualified label less useful.
- Use plain, unambiguous answer choices so prospects can select the right qualification path quickly.
- Send the qualified stage into the same CRM field or lifecycle model used by sales, while retaining the original answer for auditability.
- Review qualification rules when pricing, service areas or response-time commitments change.
