Futurism reported that the concept came from a Hiroshima-based artist, who drew inspiration from Lockheed Martin’s P-791 hybrid aircraft. Amazon’s separate interest in delivery drones helped the fiction seem plausible, but the video is not evidence that Amazon built or announced a blimp.
Is the Amazon mothership blimp real?
No. The video depicts a fictional aircraft created with computer-generated imagery; it is not documentary footage of an Amazon-built drone carrier. Futurism described the clip as “completely fake” in an article by Dan Robitzski published April 3, 2019, and updated the same day: Futurism’s report on the Amazon drone mothership blimp.

Who created the video, and what inspired the design?
Futurism identified the creator as an artist based in Hiroshima, Japan. The artist’s design was inspired by Lockheed Martin’s P-791, a hybrid aircraft—not by evidence of an Amazon aircraft project. The P-791 was the real-world visual reference; the Amazon-branded drone mothership shown in the clip was the fictional concept.

Why did the fake seem believable?
Amazon had publicly discussed delivery drones years before the video circulated. Futurism noted that CEO Jeff Bezos first teased the idea in 2013. That separate drone ambition offered a plausible-sounding backdrop for the imagined blimp, but it does not establish that Amazon planned a giant airborne carrier for drones.
#1 Best Overall
- BEHEMOTH BLIMP: It blows up to 30” long, big enough to carry the Turtles and spy out the Foot
- TURTLE RAPPELLING SYSTEM: Push the Rapid Deployment Buttons to deploy the Turtles into action, holds all four TMNT action figures (not included)
- COCKPIT SEAT: Put a Turtle up front and underneath the Blimp
- FUN FEATURES: Blimp has colorful graphics just like a real battle blimp, details like Turbine Thruster and Flight Fins
- NIFTY PATCH KIT: Just in case you need to make some post-battle repairs to the Blimp
What the video does—and does not—show
- It shows: a CGI concept for an Amazon-branded aircraft that carries delivery drones.
- It does not show: an Amazon test flight, a deployed aircraft, or an announced blimp program.
- It does not establish: how widely the clip was viewed or shared. Futurism called it “making the rounds online” but gave no view, share, or reach count.
The fact-check is based on Futurism’s April 3, 2019 report. It addresses the video’s provenance and inspiration; it is not evidence about the current status of Amazon’s separate delivery-drone efforts.
