Samsung’s built-in Galaxy settings are the right starting point for everyday changes. They cover standard lock-screen, wallpaper, home-screen, display, sound and notification controls without installing anything. Good Lock is an optional suite of modules for more specific or granular adjustments, such as rearranging Quick-panel elements, moving lock-screen components, changing interface themes, adding per-app volume controls or creating animated wallpapers.
Neither option replaces the other. Use Settings for predictable, supported changes; add the Good Lock module that matches a particular limitation. Good Lock availability depends on your Galaxy model, region and software version, so confirm that the module appears for your phone before following a detailed procedure.

Good Lock and built-in Settings at a glance
The practical difference is scope. One UI’s Settings app provides the controls Samsung considers standard for your phone. Good Lock exposes optional modules that extend selected parts of that interface. A module may offer many more choices in one area while doing nothing for another.
| What you want to change | Built-in Galaxy route | Good Lock option | Choose Good Lock when… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic lock screen or Always On Display settings | Settings sections for Lock screen and Always On Display | LockStar | You need to move individual elements, add widgets or stickers, or use more clock layouts. |
| Status-bar icons and Quick panel arrangement | Quick-panel edit controls and notification settings | QuickStar | You want finer visibility and layout choices than the standard editor exposes. |
| Home screen, app screen, folders or recents | Home-screen settings and recent-app controls | Home Up | You need alternate grids, folder behavior or recent-app layouts. |
| Colors, icons, keyboard, Quick panel or volume panel | Wallpaper and style, Themes and other appearance settings | Theme Park | You want to build or tune interface elements rather than apply a single preset theme. |
| Volume levels and volume-panel behavior | Standard sound and vibration controls | Sound Assistant | You need per-app volume or more precise, context-specific audio controls. |
| Still or animated lock- and home-screen backgrounds | Wallpaper and style | Wonderland | You want layered artwork and motion effects instead of a static wallpaper. |
The table describes Samsung’s published module roles, not a guarantee that every function is present on every Galaxy. Availability is checked in the Good Lock app and Galaxy Store for your specific device.

What Samsung’s built-in customization can already handle
Lock screen and Always On Display
Use the phone’s Settings app to select a clock style, wallpaper, notification display and Always On Display behavior. These controls are integrated with One UI, so they normally follow the menus and permissions already available on your model. They are the safer choice when you want a conventional lock screen that remains compatible after a system update.
Wallpaper, colors and standard themes
Wallpaper and style controls let you choose an image, apply a color palette and select from Samsung’s supported theme or icon choices. Built-in options are usually sufficient when your goal is simply to change the background, color accents or an installed theme.
Home screen and app screen
Home-screen settings cover the grid, app-screen behavior, folders, widgets, page layout and whether apps appear on a separate app screen. The exact labels vary by One UI release, but the controls are available from Settings or by touching and holding an empty area of the Home screen.
Recommended Free Tools
Sound, vibration and notifications
Settings provides ringtone, media, notification and alarm volumes, vibration intensity, sound mode and notification behavior. These controls apply broadly. If you want one application quieter than another or need a more detailed volume panel, that is where Sound Assistant becomes relevant.
Quick panel and status bar
The standard Quick-panel editor lets you reorder or expose the tiles Samsung makes available on your model. Notification and status-bar settings control how alerts are shown. Built-in controls are preferable when you only need to add Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, flashlight or similar tiles and do not need per-element visibility rules.
What Good Lock adds
Good Lock is downloaded from Samsung’s Galaxy Store and then acts as a launcher for separate modules. Installing Good Lock alone does not change every part of the phone. You select a module, install it, and configure that module’s settings. This modular design is useful because you can add only the extension you need, but it also means instructions for one module do not apply to another.
Samsung describes Sound Assistant as adding sound settings beyond standard One UI settings. The same targeted approach applies to the visual modules: Theme Park focuses on appearance, Wonderland on animated wallpapers, QuickStar on the status bar and Quick panel, and Home Up on home-screen behavior.

Check compatibility before you install anything
Samsung’s regional support information says Good Lock availability can vary by model, region and software version. The Ukraine support article, updated February 25, 2026, states that Android 7 and earlier do not support Good Lock. The Galaxy Store listing also warns that some devices may not be supported. A module documented by Samsung may therefore be absent from your phone or expose fewer controls than shown in a guide.
- Open the Galaxy Store and search for Good Lock. Confirm that the publisher is Samsung and read the compatibility information shown for your device.
- Install or update Good Lock. The Galaxy Store listing showed version 3.0.16.6, dated July 14, 2026; version numbers and availability can change.
- Open Good Lock and review the modules offered in its current categories. If a module is not listed, do not sideload a package or assume that an older tutorial will work.
- Install only the module that matches your goal, then open it from Good Lock and follow its on-screen setup. Some modules may request access to the interface area they modify.
- After changing a setting, lock and unlock the phone or open the relevant panel to verify the result. Keep a note of the original setting so you can reverse it if a layout becomes inconvenient.
Updating One UI or changing regions can alter module support. When a setting disappears, first check for updates to Good Lock and the individual module, then verify that your phone still meets the module’s requirements.
Good Lock modules, explained
QuickStar: more control over the status bar and Quick panel
QuickStar is for users who find the standard Quick-panel editor too limited. Samsung lists options for status-bar visibility and Quick-panel layout. Depending on the supported device and software version, you may be able to reduce icon clutter, control which indicators appear and adjust how the panel is organized.
Use QuickStar when the problem is presentation rather than the underlying connection. It will not create hardware features that your phone lacks, and it does not replace the regular Settings pages for Wi-Fi, mobile data or notifications. If you only need to reorder a few tiles, the built-in editor is quicker and less dependent on module support.
LockStar: place lock-screen elements where you want them
LockStar extends lock-screen and Always On Display customization. Samsung’s India support guide describes clock choices, component placement, widgets and stickers. This is useful when notifications, shortcuts or a clock occupy a position that interferes with your wallpaper or one-handed reach.
Start with the built-in lock-screen editor if you want a standard clock, wallpaper or notification style. Choose LockStar for a deliberately arranged layout, but check the preview at different notification counts: a design that looks balanced with no alerts can become crowded when several notifications arrive.
Theme Park: construct interface themes
Theme Park handles appearance beyond a single wallpaper or preset theme. Samsung identifies controls for the keyboard, Quick panel, volume panel and icons, along with broader theme elements. It is the module to consider when you want those surfaces to share a color treatment or when an installed theme changes more than you prefer.

Theme Park edits visual styling; it does not add new Quick-panel functions or change an application’s own interface. Save or apply a theme only after checking text contrast, icon legibility and the volume panel in both light and dark modes.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Home Up: tune home, app, folder and recent-app layouts
Home Up focuses on the launcher. Samsung lists options for the home screen, app screen, folders and recent-app layout and behavior. Depending on support, this can provide more control over grid arrangements, folder presentation and how recently used apps are displayed.
Use the built-in Home-screen settings for a conventional grid and folder setup. Home Up is justified when the standard launcher’s spacing or recent-app presentation is the specific limitation you are trying to solve. Make one change at a time so you can identify which layout caused an unexpected result.
Sound Assistant: per-app and finer volume controls
Sound Assistant addresses a common limitation of global volume sliders: different applications may need different levels. Samsung says the module offers per-app and more granular volume controls, as well as volume-panel customization. That can help when music, navigation prompts, games and calls compete for attention.
Samsung Global Newsroom wrote: “Good Lock’s Sound Assistant was designed to address exactly these everyday audio frustrations.” Treat that as Samsung’s description, not an independent test result. The module’s value is its extra control; whether you need it depends on how often the standard volume steps or single system slider get in your way.

Wonderland: animated lock- and home-screen wallpapers
Wonderland creates animated wallpapers from layered design elements and motion effects. Samsung Global Newsroom described it on April 15, 2025 as a way to make lock- and home-screen backgrounds move rather than remain static.

Choose Wonderland when motion is the creative goal. Use the built-in wallpaper picker when you want a still image, a standard video wallpaper supported by your model or the least complicated setup. Animated layers can make text and icons harder to read, so preview the result with notifications and widgets visible.
How to choose the right path for a specific task
If you want a conventional change
- Open Settings and search for the subject, such as “lock screen,” “wallpaper,” “home screen” or “sound.”
- Use the matching built-in page and make the smallest change that solves the problem.
- Restart or lock the phone only if the interface asks you to; most standard changes preview immediately.
This route avoids adding a module and is the most predictable choice after a One UI update.
If Settings cannot expose the control you need
- Describe the missing control precisely: a hidden status icon, a moved clock, a per-app volume, a custom keyboard color or a different recent-app layout.
- Match that control to QuickStar, LockStar, Sound Assistant, Theme Park, Home Up or Wonderland.
- Confirm that the module is listed for your model before installing it.
- Change one setting, test the relevant screen or sound, and keep the change only if it improves the specific problem.
This approach prevents installing several modules when one targeted extension is enough.
If you are following an online tutorial
Check its publication date, One UI version and region. Samsung’s module lists and feature descriptions differ by software release and market. A missing menu is often a compatibility difference, not an installation mistake. Search the current module description in Galaxy Store before trying workarounds.

| Consideration | Built-in Settings | Good Lock |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Already installed and grouped in Settings. | Requires Good Lock plus one or more separate modules. |
| Range | Broad coverage of standard One UI behavior. | Deep control in selected areas, with no universal replacement for Settings. |
| Consistency after updates | Designed as part of the phone’s supported system interface. | Menus and functions can change with module, One UI and regional support. |
| Precision | Enough for ordinary wallpaper, volume, launcher and notification changes. | Better when you need per-element placement, per-app audio or custom interface styling. |
| Device coverage | Core controls are generally present on supported Galaxy models. | Must be checked for each model, region, Android and One UI combination. |
The trade-off is therefore not “basic versus better.” It is integrated consistency versus optional control in a narrowly defined area.
Common problems and practical fixes
A module does not appear
Check the phone’s Android and One UI version, update Good Lock and search the Galaxy Store directly. Android 7 and earlier are not supported according to Samsung’s regional support information. If the listing still does not appear, your model or region may not support that module.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe tutorial’s menu names do not match
Samsung changes labels and groups between One UI releases. Use the module’s current in-app help and Galaxy Store description rather than relying on an old screenshot. Avoid installing unofficial copies to reproduce a menu that Samsung has not offered for your device.

A customization looks wrong after an update
Open the module and check for an update, then temporarily return the affected area to its default layout. Reapply one change at a time. If only one module is affected, troubleshoot that module before changing system-wide display or accessibility settings.
The change is too aggressive
Undo the last setting, restore the module’s default layout and test with a smaller adjustment. For example, hide fewer status icons, use a simpler lock-screen arrangement or reduce an individual app’s volume rather than lowering the phone’s master slider.
What the download figures do—and do not—show
Samsung Global Newsroom reported the following cumulative download totals on April 11, 2025:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

| Good Lock component | Samsung-reported cumulative downloads | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sound Assistant | More than 21 million | Total downloads reported by Samsung as of the article’s publication; not a current active-user count. |
| Theme Park | More than 17 million | Total downloads reported by Samsung as of the article’s publication; not an independent quality or satisfaction measure. |
| One Hand Operation+ | More than 16 million | Total downloads reported by Samsung as of the article’s publication; the figure does not establish support or performance on your phone. |
These numbers indicate substantial historical distribution, but they cannot tell you whether a module is available in your market or whether it solves your particular problem.
Bottom line: use Settings first, then add only the module you need
For ordinary Galaxy personalization—wallpaper, a standard lock screen, home-screen basics, notification behavior and global sound—Samsung’s built-in Settings are simpler and more dependable. Good Lock earns its place when a specific limitation remains: QuickStar for status-bar and Quick-panel control, LockStar for detailed lock-screen placement, Theme Park for interface styling, Home Up for launcher layouts, Sound Assistant for granular audio and Wonderland for animated wallpapers.
Install Good Lock only after confirming support for your model, region and software version. Treat each module as a focused extension, not as a replacement for One UI’s Settings app, and judge the result by the one customization problem you wanted to solve.
