Where to find the Golden Scythe
The Golden Scythe is in the Quarry Mine, a cave separate from the regular Mines. Its entrance is at the left edge of the Quarry, north of the bridge. The bridge must be repaired through the Community Center or Joja route to reach the Quarry.

How to collect it
- Make room in your inventory. The tool is added only if a slot is available. If your inventory is full, clear a slot before claiming it.
- Enter the Quarry Mine. Follow the one-floor cave route to its end. The cave contains monsters, including Haunted Skulls and slimes, so bring your preferred weapon and healing items if you want to be prepared.
- Interact with the Grim Reaper statue. The statue holds the Golden Scythe. After you claim it, interacting with the statue again sends you back to the mine entrance.
Version 1.6 added a side path containing skeletons, coal nodes, and large rocks; it is separate from the route to the statue. The Quarry Mine page also documents a change in where the player wakes after passing out there from low health. (Stardew Valley Wiki: Quarry Mine, accessed 2026.)
What the Golden Scythe changes
Its larger cutting radius reaches more grass than the standard Scythe, and it has a higher chance of turning grass into hay. The figures below are chances, not guaranteed hay from every swipe. Cut grass on the farm adds hay to a Silo when one is present.

| Scythe | Chance to harvest hay from grass | Access and distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Scythe | 50% per swipe | Starter tool; cuts grass and certain crops. |
| Golden Scythe | 75% per swipe | Found at the end of the Quarry Mine; larger radius than the standard Scythe. |
| Iridium Scythe | 100% per swipe | Unlocked through Farming Mastery; larger radius than the Golden Scythe. |
These percentages are listed by the Stardew Valley Wiki on pages accessed in 2026; the pages do not specify a publication year for the mechanics. (Golden Scythe; Scythe; Iridium Scythe; Hay.)
Is it useful for combat?
The Golden Scythe deals 13 damage, compared with 1–3 for the standard Scythe, but it remains a tool that can deal damage—not a replacement for your regular weapon. Its clearest practical benefit is cutting more grass and improving your chance of collecting hay. The damage values are listed by the Stardew Valley Wiki on pages accessed in 2026; no publication year is given. (Golden Scythe; Scythe.)

What to know about versions
The Golden Scythe page records its introduction in version 1.4 and says that, in version 1.6, it can no longer be lost from inventory when the player dies. The Quarry Mine page documents the 1.6 side path and the change to where a player wakes after passing out in the mine. These notes do not establish a complete current version-by-platform comparison, so patch behavior should not be assumed identical across every platform.
