Indian Gold ETFs recorded net inflows of ₹4,450.61 crore in September 2026, up about 71.4% from ₹2,596.70 crore in August, according to the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). At the same time, mutual-fund schemes recorded a combined net outflow of ₹1,33,375.57 crore. The figures show contrasting category-level flows—not that investors directly transferred money from other mutual funds into Gold ETFs.
How much did Gold ETFs receive in September?
AMFI reported ₹5,310.65 crore in funds mobilized by Indian Gold ETFs during September 2026 and ₹860.04 crore in repurchases or redemptions. After subtracting redemptions, the category’s net inflow was ₹4,450.61 crore. The comparison with August is based on net inflows: September’s figure was approximately 71.4% higher than August’s ₹2,596.70 crore. AMFI’s September 2026 monthly report

“Funds mobilized” is the gross amount received before redemptions; net inflow is what remains after those redemptions are deducted. The 71.4% increase refers to this net figure, not to gross subscriptions.

Why were Gold ETF inflows positive while mutual funds saw outflows?
AMFI reports activity for individual scheme categories as well as an industry-wide total. In September, Gold ETFs had a net inflow, while the grand total across mutual-fund schemes was a net outflow of ₹1,33,375.57 crore. The broader total combines activity across different schemes; a positive result in one category can therefore coexist with an overall negative result.

These figures do not identify where the money came from or who invested it. They do not show that the same investors—or the same rupees—left other schemes and entered Gold ETFs. AMFI separately reports ₹1,33,060.04 crore in outflows from open-ended schemes; the larger ₹1,33,375.57 crore figure is the grand total across schemes.
Does the increase show that Gold ETFs delivered higher returns?
No. The 71.4% figure is the month-over-month change in net inflows, not a return, price increase or measure of investment performance. Monthly flow figures describe subscriptions and redemptions; they do not by themselves establish why investors acted or whether an investment gained value.
Rank #2
AMFI’s monthly report provides the India-specific totals but does not attribute a cause to September’s increase. The flow data alone are not evidence of a forecast, a record or a broad decision by investors to abandon other mutual funds.

Separately, the World Gold Council reported US$10 billion in net inflows to physically backed gold ETFs worldwide in September 2026. It also reported that global holdings rose by 67 tonnes to a record 4,256 tonnes, while total assets under management fell 7% during the month to US$574 billion. Those are global figures reported in US dollars and tonnes, not a second measure of India’s rupee-denominated AMFI flows. The Council distinguishes fund flows—the money investors put into or retrieve from funds—from demand measured as the change in gold holdings. Global context does not establish the reason for the India-specific increase.
