Gold’s price was an intraday snapshot, not a closing quote
Investing.com reported XAU/USD at $4,206.86 an ounce, up 0.3%, at 20:30 ET (00:30 GMT) on October 12, 2026. It also reported that gold had gained 1.3% in the previous week. Investing.com’s report gives the quote and its publication time.

The Business Times, citing Bloomberg, reported the same $4,206.86 price and 0.3% rise at 8:30 a.m. Singapore time that day. That is a separate publication-time snapshot, not a later closing price. The Business Times report provides its local timestamp.

Why the energy ceasefire announcement could weigh on oil—and support gold indirectly
Reuters described President Donald Trump’s announcement as an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to halt attacks on each other’s energy facilities, following a U.S. diesel-supply deal with Moscow. Reuters’ account establishes what was announced; the reports available here do not establish that the truce was implemented or that additional Russian fuel had reached the market.
Traders could nevertheless treat the announcement as a signal that supply pressure might ease. That expectation is consistent with Brent being reported down 1.2% in the Monday snapshots. If lower energy costs persist, they could ease some inflation pressure and reduce the prospect of tighter monetary policy. Lower rate expectations or yields can be supportive for gold, which does not pay interest.

Middle East escalation points the other way
Investing.com and The Business Times reported that Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport came under attack on Sunday, following a strike on Saturday that the reports said caused deaths and hundreds of injuries. They attributed Houthi attacks to retaliation for what the group called Saudi aggression. Those accounts report the incidents and the group’s stated rationale; they do not independently verify the parties’ claims.
Escalating violence can lift geopolitical uncertainty and safe-haven demand for gold. It can also raise concern about disruption to energy flows. If that risk pushes fuel costs and inflation expectations higher, markets may anticipate tighter policy or higher yields. Because gold pays no interest, higher yields can make it less attractive relative to assets that do.

Why gold can rise even as rate concerns remain
The forces do not cancel out in a simple, predictable way. Geopolitical uncertainty and investment demand can support gold while energy-driven inflation and higher-yield expectations act as headwinds. Investing.com also cited central-bank buying and reported that China added 740,000 ounces to its gold reserves in September, extending a reported buying streak to 23 consecutive months. The report attributed the reserve figures to official data, but the original monthly release is not linked here.
Investing.com further described gold-backed ETF inflows as being at a four-year high, citing Bloomberg data and attributing the demand interpretation to ANZ analysts. The underlying series and exact measurement period were not available in that report, so the statistic should be understood as reported there rather than as an independently verified measure.

What the move does—and does not—show
The October 12 reports captured gold just above $4,200 during two specified intraday snapshots. They do not establish a closing price, confirm that the energy truce took effect, or prove that supply conditions changed. The market’s competing signals were prospective relief from the announced truce and disruption risk from Middle East escalation, filtered through inflation, interest-rate expectations, and demand for gold.
These are explanations of a reported market move, not a reliable forecast of the next price direction. The cited reports were published in 2026, and both prices and geopolitical developments are volatile.
