The latest dated quotes show different market layers rather than one single “gold rate.” All India Bullion’s India-wide benchmark at 03:00 IST on 16 October 2026 put 24K (999) gold at ₹1,48,760 per 10 grams and 999 silver at ₹2,16,462 per kilogram. Both were higher than on 15 October. Economic Times’ Delhi table listed ₹13,849 per gram for 22K and ₹14,922 per gram for 24K on 16 October, while its Delhi page reported ₹1,42,960 per 10 grams for 24K on 17 October. These figures cannot be compared without matching the date, city, unit, purity and calculation method.

Why online rates and jeweller bills differ
Benchmark versus city retail
An India-wide bullion reference is an indicative market benchmark, not a guaranteed shop-counter price. Dealers can add transport, inventory, financing and local premiums. A Delhi quote can therefore differ from a national reference even when both are labelled 24K.
Unit conversions can hide differences
Gold may be quoted per gram or per 10 grams, while silver in these readings is quoted per kilogram. Convert only after recording the original unit. For example, a per-gram quote multiplied by 10 is a 10-gram metal value, but it does not become the same market series as a benchmark published at another time or in another city.

Charges on a jewellery invoice
All India Bullion distinguishes the 22K metal value from the amount payable for finished jewellery. The invoice can add making charges, wastage and 3% GST. Those additions explain why a ring, chain or bangle costs more than multiplying its net gold weight by an online 22K rate.

A 22K figure may be derived from a 24K metal value rather than fixed as a separate wholesale benchmark. All India Bullion’s October average was ₹14,973 per gram for 24K and a derived ₹13,715 per gram for 22K. That monthly average is not a replacement for the dated daily quote.

Did gold fall for a sixth day while silver rose?
The latest dated evidence does not establish that sequence for 17 October. All India Bullion recorded both 24K gold and 999 silver rising on 16 October: gold gained ₹626 and silver ₹1,747 from the previous day. News On AIR reported both metals falling on 12 and 14 October, not a verified six-session run ending with silver rising.

A “sixth day” headline requires six consecutive, like-for-like daily closes from the same market series; mixing national benchmarks with city retail quotes can create a false streak.

Silver and gold can move in opposite directions because they have different industrial and investment demand, supply conditions, futures positioning and sensitivity to currency or interest-rate expectations. A one-day divergence is not, by itself, proof of a lasting trend.
How to check a rate before buying
- Write down the date and timestamp. A 03:00 IST benchmark is not necessarily the price available later at a local shop.
- Confirm the city or market. Compare Delhi with Delhi, or an India-wide reference with another India-wide reference.
- Check purity. Make sure 22K/916, 24K/999 and silver 999 are not being mixed.
- Match the unit. Keep grams, 10 grams and kilograms separate until you deliberately convert them.
- Ask what is included. Confirm whether the displayed number is metal-only and obtain separate lines for making charges, wastage and GST.
- Record the final invoice weight and purity. The quoted rate should be applied to the net precious-metal weight, not automatically to the finished item’s gross weight.
What today’s numbers mean for buyers
For a 24K bullion comparison, use the dated 999 benchmark and its exact unit. For jewellery, start with the local 22K or 24K metal rate, then examine the invoice additions. For silver, verify both fineness and whether the quote is per kilogram or another unit. Most importantly, do not treat the 17 October Delhi 24K figure, the 16 October national benchmark and a jeweller’s final bill as competing prices for the same product: they describe different layers of the market.
