Its transparent viewfinder gives it a futuristic look, but reviewers found that framing is difficult to judge consistently. Meter mode has a narrower, more practical appeal for film photographers—provided ISO 100–800 covers the film they use.
What the Godox C100 does
Godox describes the C100 as its first camera with a built-in light meter. It combines photo, video and meter modes in a small device with a transparent optical viewfinder that overlays framing and exposure information. The idea is unusual: use one gadget to compose and capture casual images, or switch modes to take an exposure reading for another camera.

Godox says the meter reads brightness from the central 25% of the frame. That is the manufacturer’s description of its metering area, not a claim that the camera’s framing is equally precise. Godox C100 specifications
Is the Godox C100 any good as a camera?
It can make low-fi snapshots, but it is hard to recommend as a dependable everyday camera. DPReview describes 2-megapixel images, challenging highlights and fixed-focus limitations; TechRadar also points to poor dynamic range and a tiny 2 MP sensor. Those are reviewer assessments, while Godox’s product page does not list the sensor resolution.

The C100 features a clear optical window that lets you compose shots while staying fully engaged with your subject. With support for up to 128GB microSD expandable storage and up to 1.5 hours of continuous video recording, your inspiration never has to stop
The more fundamental issue is composing the shot. DPReview reviewer Abby Ferguson found framing inconsistent and difficult because the result changes with the C100’s distance and angle relative to the eye. Amateur Photographer likewise reports that the frame guides shift with viewing distance. A viewfinder that looks like a clever shortcut can therefore make it harder to predict what the camera will capture.
Can you use the Godox C100 as a light meter?
Yes, and this is the C100’s stronger use case. DPReview’s Abby Ferguson said her comparisons matched readings from mirrorless cameras and that she would feel confident using the C100 for film photography. PetaPixel also described the meter as accurate, while noting that operating it can be slow. These are reviewers’ findings, not a universal calibration guarantee.

The optical viewfinder allows you to compose images naturally while staying connected with your subject, creating a more immersive shooting experience than traditional digital cameras.

- 【Designed for Film Style Photography】:Create different visual stories with multiple aspect ratios including 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1. The C100 brings a unique film-inspired shooting experience for street photography, travel, and lifestyle moments.

The main constraint is the meter’s reported ISO range: DPReview and Amateur Photographer list ISO 100–800. Check the speed of the film you plan to shoot before relying on the C100; the published range does not cover every film speed. Its central-area reading is also worth bearing in mind when the subject and background have very different brightness levels.
Is the transparent viewfinder hard to use?
For many users, that appears to be the C100’s biggest practical drawback. The frame guides do not behave like a stable, precisely aligned view through a conventional camera finder: reviewers say the indicated framing depends on how the device sits relative to the eye. If you need repeatable composition, that uncertainty matters more than the futuristic styling.

DPReview’s conclusion captures the split: “The C100 will not be everyone’s cup of tea as an actual camera, but its light meter mode is actually useful.” DPReview review, September 18, 2026
Who should consider it—and what to compare
The C100 makes most sense for someone who wants a pocketable meter and is curious about having a basic camera in the same device. If reliable composition or broad film-speed support is essential, compare it with a purpose-built handheld meter or a smartphone meter app instead. The useful comparison points are:

Verdict
The C100’s looks promise a camera experience its framing system does not reliably deliver. Its more defensible role is as a compact meter for film photographers whose ISO needs fall within the reported 100–800 range. Treat the camera mode as a low-fi extra, not the main reason to buy it.
