In God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, change Kratos’s look at the Appearance Pedestal on the Shore. Unlock more appearances by earning Valhalla rewards, then use the condition shown in-game for any appearance that is still locked. Valhalla armor is cosmetic only: it does not change stats or grant armor perks in the mode.
How to change Kratos’s appearance in Valhalla

Go to the Shore in Valhalla and interact with the Appearance Pedestal.

Choose an available appearance. The pedestal is Valhalla’s hub for cosmetic rewards, and you can mix and match looks between attempts.

If an appearance is locked, check its displayed in-game unlock condition. Valhalla has rewards tied to story completion and includes Valhalla-exclusive looks, but the official reward guidance does not give a complete item-by-item unlock list.

PlayStation describes Valhalla armor as being “for appearances only.” Choose the look you prefer without treating it as a combat build decision.
How to claim Valhalla cosmetics in New Game+
Some Valhalla-exclusive cosmetic rewards can also be claimed in God of War Ragnarök’s New Game+. The route applies to qualifying rewards, including Flawless Ares and Flawless Zeus armor and story-completion rewards.

Visit the shop and purchase the new armor appearances.
This is separate from changing appearance inside Valhalla: the Appearance Pedestal is for the mode itself, while the Lost Items Chest and shop route makes qualifying rewards available in NG+.

PlayStation’s base-game appearance guidance and New Game+ transmog announcement describe Level 9 equipment requirements. Do not apply that threshold to Valhalla’s Appearance Pedestal.
Dark Odyssey collection availability
PlayStation announced the Dark Odyssey collection for March 20, 2025, at no additional cost to owners of God of War Ragnarök on PlayStation and PC. The collection is claimable through any Lost Items Chest in the base game and is received automatically in Valhalla. Its items include a Kratos appearance, breastplate, bracers and belt, an Atreus vestment, and a Freya witch frock. This availability detail is specific to the announced collection; it is not a general unlock rule for every Valhalla appearance. See PlayStation’s announcement.

Should you finish the main game first?
Valhalla is an epilogue to God of War Ragnarök. PlayStation recommends finishing the base-game story first if you want to avoid narrative or gameplay spoilers. That is spoiler guidance, not a prerequisite for entering Valhalla. See the Valhalla announcement.
