PlayStation says they unlock through story progression, but has not named the chapter or mission where each becomes available. That delay could help the game introduce its equipment and resources at its own pace; Santa Monica Studio has not said that is the reason.
What the pre-order bonus includes—and what the restriction means
PlayStation lists three pre-order bonuses: the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque’s Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack. The bonus applies to any edition, according to the September 28, 2026 announcement from Santa Monica Studio and the official US game page.

The announcement’s footnote says: “Unlock in-game items via story progression.” In practical terms, that separates qualifying for the bonus by pre-ordering from reaching the point in the story when its items can be used. The official pages do not specify the unlock point for any individual item.
The restriction is about access in the game, not a stated pre-order cutoff or an edition requirement. PlayStation says the bonus applies to any edition. It does not say the armor or resource pack changes the opening’s balance or explain why the story gate exists. One reasonable possibility is that delayed access lets players encounter the equipment and resource systems before bonus items enter the mix, but that is interpretation—not a confirmed developer rationale.

What physical-copy buyers should know
For the physical Standard Edition, Santa Monica Studio says the pre-order bonus is delivered by download code. Redeeming it requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. A physical disc by itself therefore does not provide immediate access to those downloadable extras; the code must be redeemed, and the items still unlock through story progression.
If you are considering a physical Standard Edition alongside a digital Deluxe Upgrade, the official US listing describes the upgrade for Standard Edition purchasers and says it contains the Deluxe extras rather than another game copy. The available official material does not explicitly spell out every disc-and-upgrade scenario, so check the current Store eligibility and the package’s code terms before buying if you need certainty about a particular combination.

Release timing and platform
PlayStation currently lists God of War Laufey for PS5 with a release date of February 16, 2027. Santa Monica Studio’s September 28, 2026 announcement said pre-orders were scheduled to open September 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time. Dates and Store details can change, so the official game page is the place to confirm the current listing.
The announcement also describes Faye’s Serpent Bow as having full-aim and half-aim modes, multiple arrow types, and customizable Serpent Scales. That gives context for why equipment can include both appearance and gameplay options, but it does not establish that the pre-order armor or resource pack has any specific balance effect.
