In his developer statement, as reproduced in RPG Site’s October 8, 2026 launch report, Lukas Büffel described the origin of the project:
“Gloom Gate started as an experiment in which I wanted to find out if I could develop a good workflow for a pseudo-3D game with an over-the-shoulder view of the player with an enemy in the center.”
