The GL.iNet Beryl 7 (GL-MT3600BE) is a compact Wi-Fi 7 travel router for people who want to share a hotel connection across personal devices, use phone tethering or a compatible USB cellular modem, and optionally route traffic through a VPN. Its dual 2.5GbE ports, USB-C PD input and flexible internet sources make it unusually capable for travel; the available evidence does not establish it as the best travel router across the market.
What the Beryl 7 is—and who it suits
GL.iNet describes the Beryl 7 as a portable router for mobile situations such as business trips and vacations. In practical terms, it sits between an existing internet connection and your devices: connect it to hotel Ethernet, join venue Wi-Fi in repeater mode, tether a phone over USB, or attach a compatible USB cellular modem. It then creates a private Wi-Fi network for your devices.

That setup is useful when you want to configure one router rather than connect each device separately to a hotel network. It does not create internet access by itself: you still need an upstream connection, such as hotel Wi-Fi or Ethernet, phone service for tethering, or a cellular modem with an active service plan. GL.iNet’s user guide documents these connection modes.

- A good fit: travelers who value Wi-Fi 7, two 2.5GbE ports, USB-C PD power, flexible uplinks and configurable VPN routing in a small unit.
- Consider your needs: if you only need to connect a phone and laptop to ordinary hotel Wi-Fi, the Beryl 7’s additional ports and routing features may be more than necessary.
Specifications that matter on a trip
| Feature | Beryl 7 specification | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | Dual-band Wi-Fi 7; maximum rates of 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz, according to GL.iNet’s February 2026 datasheet. | These are manufacturer maximum radio rates, not expected internet speeds or independent test results. |
| Wired ports | One 2.5GbE WAN port and one 2.5GbE LAN port. | Use the WAN port for a wired upstream connection and the LAN port for a compatible wired device or network. |
| USB | USB 3.0; the datasheet specifies 5V/2A output for most 4G/5G dongles and support for sharing attached storage. | Can support a compatible cellular dongle or shared USB drive; check modem compatibility before relying on a particular device. |
| VPN | Manufacturer maximums: 1,100 Mbps for WireGuard and 1,000 Mbps for OpenVPN-DCO. | These figures are not independently measured travel throughput; actual speeds depend on configuration, server and connection. |
| Size and weight | 120 × 83 × 34 mm; 205 g, per the February 2026 datasheet. | A compact unit to pack, with two foldable external antennas. |
| Power | USB-C PD input; listed inputs are 5V/3A, 9V/3A or 12V/2.5A. Maximum consumption is below 12 W, excluding USB load. | The box includes a power adapter; USB-C PD also gives you a supported alternative power path. |
GL.iNet’s product page also advertises support for more than 120 concurrent devices. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that a large number of devices will receive fast or reliable service on a congested hotel connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Can it share hotel Wi-Fi with all your devices?
Yes. In repeater mode, the Beryl 7 joins the hotel’s Wi-Fi as its internet source and rebroadcasts a network for your devices. That can reduce the number of devices you need to connect directly to the venue network. You will still be limited by the hotel’s connection quality, its access rules and the router’s wireless conditions.
In a September 8, 2026 review, TechRadar’s Collin Probst reported using the Beryl 7 at a hotel to rebroadcast the connection to five iPads, a laptop and a couple of phones, describing it as stable enough for that group. This is one reviewer’s account, not a controlled capacity or speed test. It suggests a plausible travel use, but does not establish performance for every hotel or device load.

USB cellular modem
Plug a compatible USB cellular modem into the router’s USB port and configure the connection in the admin panel. The router is not itself a cellular modem or mobile subscription; you need compatible hardware and service. Verify modem support and power requirements for your intended setup.
VPN, wired networking and other useful features
The Beryl 7 supports VPN routing, with manufacturer-listed maximums for WireGuard and OpenVPN-DCO shown above. A VPN can be useful for sending selected or all router traffic through a VPN endpoint, depending on the configuration. Those maximums should not be treated as a promise of the speed you will see while traveling: the upstream connection, VPN server and settings all matter. The cited specifications do not establish independent VPN throughput.
Two 2.5GbE ports are a notable inclusion on a portable router. They can be useful when a hotel provides wired internet or when a traveler wants to connect a wired device, but they do not make a slower upstream internet service faster. The router also runs an OpenWrt-based software platform, and GL.iNet advertises features including AdGuard Home and Multi-WAN failover on its product page. The sources establish these as product features, not a comparative advantage measured against competing routers.

Build, packing and price
The datasheet lists two foldable external antennas and dimensions of 120 × 83 × 34 mm at 205 g. TechRadar’s reviewer found the plastic construction convenient but expressed concern that the folding arms might loosen with hard use and that a drop could crack the shell. Those are subjective observations, not evidence of a known defect or a measured durability issue. The reviewer suggested using a case; check that any case listing specifically identifies GL-MT3600BE compatibility.
The package contents listed in GL.iNet’s datasheet include a power adapter, Ethernet cable, manual and EU/UK/AU plug converters. A separate power adapter or Ethernet cable is therefore not automatically needed.

Is it the best travel router?
The available evidence supports calling the Beryl 7 a feature-rich Wi-Fi 7 travel router, not the objectively best model on the market. No controlled comparison establishes its performance against competing travel routers. For a defensible “best” judgment, a comparison would need current prices in the same region and date, radio capabilities, ports, VPN speeds measured with the same protocol and method, power needs, size, connection modes, modem support and software features.
For travelers who specifically want dual 2.5GbE, USB-C PD, multiple ways to get online and configurable VPN routing, the Beryl 7’s feature set makes it a strong candidate. If your priority is simply sharing occasional hotel Wi-Fi, first decide whether those extra capabilities justify its cost and setup complexity for your trip.
