October 10 has been designated Gintama Day, a commemorative day for the franchise chosen to coincide with the birthday of protagonist Gintoki Sakata. The official announcement also outlines a YouTube livestream and anime marathon, Japanese cinema screenings and a planned screening in Taiwan. It does not designate October 10 as a Japanese national public holiday.
Why October 10 is Gintama Day
The Gintama 20th Anniversary official site announced the designation on September 26, 2026. It says the date was selected because it is the birthday of Gintoki Sakata, often called Gin-san, and that the designation followed an application to the anniversary association.
