Ghost of Yōtei is selling strongly on PlayStation 5, although it has not matched Ghost of Tsushima’s exceptional early pace on every measure. Sony Interactive Entertainment estimates 3.3 million global sell-through units for Yōtei after 32 days on sale, while an Alinea Analytics estimate puts it about one million copies behind Tsushima at an equivalent point. However, Circana’s U.S. first-week comparison found the two games’ sales “basically flat.” The apparent gap changes with the time window, territory, platform audience, launch price and measurement method.
How many copies has Ghost of Yōtei sold?
Sony’s latest disclosed worldwide figure is 3.3 million global sell-through units after 32 days, measured on November 2, 2025. Sony identifies this as an estimate by Sony Interactive Entertainment and says the figure excludes add-on content. It covers the PS5 game’s sell-through rather than a later lifetime total.

Sony has not supplied a newer worldwide cumulative figure in the available disclosures. That means claims that Yōtei has definitively fallen far behind Tsushima globally should be treated as estimates or comparisons built from different time points, not as an official Sony conclusion.

Tsushima’s publicly reported milestones show why the comparison is difficult. Sony reported 2.4 million global sell-through units after three days, 5.0 million after 118 days, 6.5 million after 249 days, 8.0 million after 450 days, 9.7 million after 716 days and 13.0 million after 1,486 days.

| Game and measurement point | Global sell-through units | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Ghost of Tsushima — three days (July 19, 2020) | 2.4 million | Sony estimate, global; add-on-content treatment is not specified in the supplied milestone summary |
| Ghost of Yōtei — 32 days (November 2, 2025) | 3.3 million | Sony estimate, global; excludes add-on content |
| Ghost of Tsushima — 118 days (November 11, 2020) | 5.0 million | Sony estimate, global |
| Ghost of Tsushima — 249 days | 6.5 million | Sony estimate, global |
| Ghost of Tsushima — 450 days | 8.0 million | Sony estimate, global |
| Ghost of Tsushima — 716 days | 9.7 million | Sony estimate, global |
| Ghost of Tsushima — 1,486 days (August 11, 2024) | 13.0 million | Sony estimate, global |
Comparing Yōtei’s day-32 result with Tsushima’s day-three result is not a like-for-like test. Tsushima had already reached 2.4 million units in its first three days, then reached 5.0 million by day 118. Yōtei’s 3.3 million at day 32 is therefore a strong absolute result, but it does not establish that the newer game will follow Tsushima’s long-term trajectory.
What analysts say about the early gap
U.S. first week: essentially even
Mat Piscatella, Circana’s senior director of market analytics, reported that U.S. first-week sales for Yōtei were “basically flat” compared with Tsushima. He added: “It did great.” This is a U.S.-only comparison based on Circana market data, not Sony’s worldwide sell-through accounting.

- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
Equivalent-point estimate: roughly one million behind
Alinea Analytics separately estimated that Yōtei was approximately one million copies behind Tsushima at an equivalent point. That is a secondary 2026 estimate, not a Sony disclosure. It can support the interpretation that Yōtei’s launch pace is lower in some comparisons, but it should not be presented as an audited global total.
Why the two launches are not directly comparable
Different platform audiences
Ghost of Tsushima launched in 2020 on PS4, whose installed base was larger than the PS5 audience available when Yōtei launched. Yōtei is a PS5-exclusive release, with support for PS5 Pro. A smaller potential hardware audience can limit the number of immediate buyers even when conversion among owners is healthy.

- Bike, ski, snowboard, or wingsuit through a seamless open world in Career mode or multiplayer events.
- Go wild on the heights of iconic US national parks like Yosemite, Zion, and Bryce Canyon.
Different launch conditions
Tsushima arrived during lockdown-era demand, when people were spending more time at home and buying games for existing consoles. That unusual market environment helped its opening period and is not a neutral baseline for a 2025 PS5 release.
Different launch prices
Tsushima launched at a price $10 lower than Yōtei’s launch price. A higher entry price can slow early unit sales without proving that interest in the series has collapsed.

Different measurements
Sony’s figures are estimated global sell-through totals and, for Yōtei, explicitly exclude add-on content. Piscatella’s quoted comparison is U.S. first-week performance. Alinea’s number is an analytical estimate. Geography, sales window and accounting definition must match before one figure can be treated as a direct counterpart to another.

Is Ghost of Yōtei a flop on PS5?
The available evidence does not support calling Yōtei a flop. Selling 3.3 million copies worldwide in 32 days is a substantial PS5 result, and Circana’s U.S. first-week assessment described its performance as essentially level with Tsushima and said it “did great.” The more defensible conclusion is narrower: Yōtei appears to be behind Tsushima on certain equivalent-point estimates, while still delivering a strong launch on a smaller, newer console audience.

Whether it eventually closes or widens the gap will depend on later worldwide disclosures, continued sales after launch, discounts, bundles, word of mouth and the size of the PS5 install base. No later Sony cumulative total is established here, so a final lifetime comparison would be premature.
What Yōtei is—and what its sales comparison means for buyers
Sucker Punch describes Ghost of Yōtei as an evolution of the design and mythology introduced in its 2020 hit, not a direct story sequel. It launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025, with PS5 Pro support. Sales figures therefore answer a market-performance question, not whether the game is suitable for an individual player.
If you are deciding whether to buy Ghost of Yōtei for PS5, the sales data indicates an active, commercially successful release rather than a product abandoned after launch. It does not guarantee a particular experience or predict future updates; those decisions should be based on the game’s design, story and performance on your console, not on an estimated gap against Tsushima.
