It is included with the Complete Edition, and owners of the standard game can access it by purchasing the Complete Edition Upgrade. Choose a bounty, survive enemy waves and minibosses, then spend Mon between runs on upgrades and unlocks. Atsu is available at the start; Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin become playable through progression.
How do I unlock Most Wanted mode?
Buy or own Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, which includes Most Wanted. If you already own Ghost of Yōtei, purchase the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition Upgrade to add the mode (and Echoes of Sekigahara). Check the edition carefully: the standard PS5 game listing is separate from the Complete Edition listing. PlayStation’s Ghost of Yōtei page identifies the platform and edition options, while the September 3, 2026 announcement gives the Complete Edition and upgrade details.

What are the requirements?
- Game and edition: You need Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition or the Complete Edition Upgrade for an existing owner.
- Update: Most Wanted is available through patch v2.0 or later. PlayStation announced release on October 1, 2026 globally, and October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The date you see can therefore depend on your region.
- Download: Downloading the update requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
- Player count: Most Wanted is described as single-player. PlayStation’s separate PS Plus requirement concerns online play or multiplayer; official materials do not definitively state whether a PS Plus subscription is required for this mode.

How does a Most Wanted run work?
Choose a bounty from the bounty board. Each one centers on a member of the Yōtei Six; reaching the target means fighting through enemy waves and minibosses. Runs can be repeated, and bounties return at higher difficulty, culminating in the hardest bounty against Lord Saitō.
As a run progresses, select perks to shape your approach. The published examples span weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, and survivability, so a run can emphasize different tools rather than relying on one fixed build.

Which characters can you play?
There are four announced playable characters. Atsu is the default starter; the other three are unlocked as you progress. Each has a distinct set of weapons, abilities, Ultimate, and Kill Streak, although all share a katana baseline.

These are different toolkits, not an official ranking: PlayStation has not published comparative balance data establishing a strongest character or build. Perks also let players adapt a run to their preferred weapons and tactics. Character unlock costs and exact progression thresholds have not been published in the official materials.

How do I unlock the other characters?
Complete runs to progress toward additional characters; Mon can also be spent on character unlocks between runs. The official materials do not give the exact run requirements or Mon cost for Oyuki, Nagato, or Jin, so there is no confirmed threshold to follow beyond progressing through the mode and checking its unlocks.

- Mon: Earned during play and spent between runs on techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and character unlocks.
- Run perks: Selected during a run to shape its build, including options involving weapon mastery, gear, summons, parries, and survivability.
- Cosmetics: Cosmetics earned in Most Wanted also unlock in the main game. PlayStation says they can be worn during Atsu’s original quest or in Echoes of Sekigahara.
Official materials do not provide item-by-item Mon costs or a complete catalog of cosmetics and other rewards, so specific prices and every carryover exception are not established.

Is Most Wanted a roguelike?
Yes. Andrew Goldfarb, Senior Communications Manager at Sucker Punch Productions, described it as “our spin on a roguelike” in the September 3, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement. Its bounty runs, escalating replay difficulty, and perk choices form the mode’s repeatable combat-survival loop.
