It is a PS5 release that also supports PS5 Pro. You need a PlayStation account and an internet connection to download the expansion or its required update, but the single-player content can be played offline after installation. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer, not for the solo story. The game supports adjustable difficulty, several assistance settings and manual saves; however, the available official information does not confirm automatic transfer of an existing base-game save or cross-region disc-and-DLC compatibility.
What Echoes of Sekigahara adds to Ghost of Yōtei
Echoes of Sekigahara is a narrative expansion focused on Atsu’s past. The official PlayStation Store description says it takes players into “a new story expansion into Atsu’s past,” a “whole new area of Ezo,” the history of the Battle of Sekigahara and a new weapon type for combat.

The expansion is separate from the additional modes listed with the Complete Edition. That edition also includes Most Wanted, described as a combat-survival mode, and Ghost of Yōtei Legends, an online co-op mode. Those are different activities with different connectivity requirements, so buying or installing the story expansion should not be treated as the same thing as joining Legends matches.

#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
How long is the Ghost of Yōtei DLC?
There is no authoritative playtime number yet. Neither the official PlayStation material nor Sucker Punch’s announcement publishes a number of hours for completing Echoes of Sekigahara. Any precise figure presented as an official runtime would therefore be invented.
Why your runtime will vary
Your total time depends on how directly you follow the expansion’s story, how much of the new Ezo area you investigate, the difficulty and assistance settings you choose, and whether you pursue optional activities. A player who follows objectives with minimal detours will finish differently from someone who explores every route, experiments with the new weapon and revisits encounters.
How to plan without a misleading estimate
- Treat the story objectives as the shortest route through the expansion, while allowing extra sessions for exploration and combat practice.
- Make a manual save before major missions or when you are about to test a different approach. This lets you return to a known point rather than replaying earlier sections.
- Keep the expansion’s story separate in your schedule from Most Wanted and Ghost of Yōtei Legends; those modes can add play sessions but are not part of the story-completion time.
- Use the in-game objectives and save records to judge your own progress instead of relying on an unverified online hour count.
Third-party estimates may appear after release, but they should be labeled as player or publication estimates, not as a Sony or Sucker Punch specification.
What PS5 hardware and accounts do you need?
Console support
Ghost of Yōtei launched exclusively on PS5 on October 2, 2025, according to PlayStation’s game page. The Complete Edition store listing also identifies PS5 as its platform. The game supports PS5 Pro, so a PS5 Pro is optional rather than a requirement. No official material cited for this FAQ lists a separate performance mode, resolution target or storage requirement for the expansion.
Rank #2
- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
Account and internet requirements
You need a PlayStation account and an internet connection to download Echoes of Sekigahara or the update required to use it. The official information does not specify a download size. Once the single-player content is installed, it can be approached as offline content; an ongoing internet connection is not identified as a requirement for playing the solo expansion.
PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus is tied to online multiplayer. The Complete Edition’s Ghost of Yōtei Legends mode is online co-op and therefore requires PlayStation Plus for online play. The single-player expansion does not require a PlayStation Plus membership merely to play its story. You still need the account and initial connection described above to obtain the content and its patch.
When did the expansion and patch arrive?
Sucker Punch’s PlayStation Blog announcement gives October 1, 2026 as the arrival date for the new narrative expansion and the other Complete Edition content. The same announcement lists patch v2.0 for October 1 globally and October 2, 2026 in some territories, including Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Those dates are territory-sensitive. If your store does not show the expansion on the first date you expect, check the release date displayed for your account’s country or region and confirm that the game has installed the applicable update. A regional difference does not by itself indicate a missing purchase.

- Compete in an all-out mass start race—collide, grind, and fight your way to the finish
- Customize your character to show off your style to your friends or show up the competition.
- Bike, ski, snowboard, or wingsuit through a seamless open world in Career mode or multiplayer events.
- Go wild on the heights of iconic US national parks like Yosemite, Zion, and Bryce Canyon.
How difficult is Echoes of Sekigahara?
The game does not lock every player into one fixed challenge level. The official store lists Adjustable Difficulty (Advanced) and several assistance features that let you change the experience as you play.
Available assistance options
- Simplified quick-time events: reduces the complexity of timed button sequences.
- Control reminders: shows the relevant controls when you need them.
- Tutorial reminders: lets you receive instructional prompts again instead of assuming you remember every system.
- Practice mode: provides a place to work on techniques without treating every attempt as a progression check.
- Pausing during offline play: allows you to stop a solo session when you need a break.
These settings are useful for different reasons. Lowering or adjusting challenge can help if encounters are blocking story progress, while reminders and practice are appropriate when the problem is unfamiliar controls rather than enemy strength. Because the options are adjustable, you can change assistance instead of restarting the expansion at a permanently different setting.
Can you use an existing Ghost of Yōtei save?
The official store explicitly confirms manual saving: “You can create manual save points that allow you to return to the game exactly where you left off.” That is the documented save-management feature.
The official material located for this FAQ does not say that a base-game save is automatically imported into Echoes of Sekigahara. It also does not document compatibility between a disc from one region and downloadable content purchased in another region. Do not assume either transfer will work simply because the game and expansion share a title.

Safest way to prepare your save
- Start the base game and create a fresh manual save at a stable point before installing or launching the expansion.
- Keep that original save instead of overwriting it with an experimental file.
- Install the expansion and required patch while signed in to the PlayStation account that owns the content.
- Launch the game and follow its own save or continuation prompts. If it offers a choice of files, select the intended manual save rather than confirming blindly.
- If a file is not recognized, stop before deleting anything. Preserve the original save and check that the game edition, account region and downloadable-content region match; official documentation does not guarantee cross-region compatibility.
This approach protects your existing progress while leaving the game free to use whatever continuation method its release build supports.
Base game, expansion or Complete Edition?
The following comparison uses only the distinctions stated in the official descriptions. Where a package detail is not established, it is marked accordingly rather than inferred.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ghost of Yōtei base game | Core Ghost of Yōtei game; exact package extras are not stated in the cited material | Not stated for this comparison | Not stated for the base package in the cited material | PS5 | Official store lists adjustable difficulty and assistance features for the game | Manual saving is supported |

Installation and first-launch checklist
- Confirm the platform: use a PS5 or PS5 Pro; this is not a PS4 expansion.
- Sign in to the owning account: the account is needed to obtain the expansion and its update.
- Connect to the internet: download the content and any required patch. The exact download size is not stated by the cited sources, so leave adequate free storage rather than relying on a guessed figure.
- Check the date and region: account for the October 1 global date and the October 2 date listed for some territories.
- Create a manual save: preserve a base-game save before choosing any continuation prompt.
- Set challenge and assistance: choose the difficulty and enable reminders, simplified quick-time events or practice mode if they suit your play style.
- Use PlayStation Plus only when needed: activate or renew it if you intend to enter online Legends co-op; it is not a prerequisite for the solo expansion.
Troubleshooting common problems
The expansion is not visible
Verify that the game has received the required update, that you are signed in to the purchasing account and that your territory has reached its listed release date. If the Complete Edition is involved, check that the installation includes the expansion rather than only the base application or a separate mode.
The game asks for an update before starting
Allow the required patch to finish before launching the expansion. Patch v2.0 is associated with the new content, and its listed date differs by territory. Starting before the update completes can leave the content unavailable even when the purchase is valid.
Best Value
- Beyond war, ancient beauty endures: Roam vast countryside and expansive terrain to encounter rich characters, discover ancient landmarks and uncover the hidden beauty of Tsushima.
- The rise of the Ghost: Seek support from old friends and new unlikely allies to reclaim Tsushima.
- Mud, Blood and steel: challenge opponents with your katana for an immersive Samurai combat experience.
- Become legends together: play with friends or via online matchmaking in a series of two-player story missions or four-player wave-based survival missions in the legends online co-op
- A whole new island to explore: Travel to Iki Island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence in a brand-new story with deeply personal stakes.
Your old save does not appear
Do not delete or overwrite the original file. The available official information confirms manual saves but does not promise automatic import. Keep the preserved save, review the prompts shown by your installed version and verify that the disc, account and downloadable content use compatible regions.
Online Legends play will not connect
Check that the PlayStation account has an active PlayStation Plus membership and that the console is connected to the internet. This issue concerns the online co-op mode; it should not prevent access to the installed single-player story.
The combat feels too hard or too easy
Open the game’s available difficulty and assistance controls and adjust them rather than abandoning the expansion. Simplified quick-time events, control and tutorial reminders, practice mode and adjustable difficulty are specifically listed to let players tailor the challenge.
Bottom line
Echoes of Sekigahara is a PS5-only, single-player story expansion with no officially published playtime. It adds Atsu’s past, a new Ezo region, Sekigahara context and a new weapon type. PS5 Pro owners are supported, PlayStation Plus is needed only for online Legends co-op, and manual saves are available. Back up your existing save and follow the game’s launch prompts, because automatic save import and cross-region DLC compatibility have not been documented.
