How long does Ghost of Yōtei take to finish?
There is no reliable number of hours to quote. Sucker Punch’s official FAQ answers the question with “That depends on you, the player,” then describes a vast world in which following Atsu’s story to its conclusion and discovering everything available will take “a great many hours.” That is an intentionally broad description, not a hidden 20-hour, 40-hour, or 100-hour target.
Your total will depend on whether you travel directly between story objectives, investigate optional activities, clear enemy locations, pursue collectibles, complete character quests, experiment with combat styles, and play the post-story content. A player focused on the main narrative will naturally finish sooner than someone attempting to uncover the entire map. Because the studio has not published separate completion categories, any precise hour range presented as an official figure would be speculation.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
Echoes of Sekigahara playtime
Echoes of Sekigahara is a narrative expansion, but neither Sucker Punch nor the other primary PlayStation material gives it a separate hour count. Its scope is described rather than timed: the story moves between the present and flashbacks to Atsu’s period on the mainland, includes the Battle of Sekigahara, and introduces a new Ezo valley. Treat it as additional story content whose length will vary with your play style, not as an expansion with a stated number of hours.
Most Wanted playtime
Most Wanted has no published completion-time estimate either. It is built around repeatable runs rather than a single linear campaign: you accept bounties, begin a combat-survival run, earn perks, and unlock additional playable characters. The number of runs you play and the characters or upgrades you pursue will determine how much time it occupies.
Which platforms support Ghost of Yōtei?
Ghost of Yōtei launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025, and supports PS5 Pro enhancements. Sucker Punch’s FAQ explicitly says there is no PS4 version. The game is presented as a standalone adventure set in rural Japan during the 1600s, with Atsu as its protagonist.
Recommended Free Tools
The primary sources for the game do not identify an official PC release. That means you should not buy a PS4 copy, expect a last-generation edition, or treat unconfirmed PC speculation as a supported platform. If you want to play at launch specifications, the requirement is a PS5 or PS5 Pro console.
What does each DLC component add?
Echoes of Sekigahara: the story expansion
This is the narrative DLC. It expands Atsu’s story through two time frames: events in the present and flashbacks to her time on the mainland. The expansion includes the Battle of Sekigahara and a new Ezo valley, giving players a new setting and additional story context rather than simply adding repeatable combat encounters.
Rank #2
- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
Most Wanted: single-player combat survival
Most Wanted is a solo mode inspired by roguelike design. You accept bounties, launch a run, fight through escalating encounters, collect perks, and unlock more playable characters. Runs are structured for replay, so the mode is aimed at players who want combat-focused sessions after or alongside the story rather than another conventional mission chain.
Ghost of Yōtei Legends: free online co-op
Legends is free to owners of Ghost of Yōtei. It is the cooperative multiplayer portion, separate from the solo story and Most Wanted. Its activities are built around teams, class choices, and increasing difficulty.

Which edition includes the DLC?
The Complete Edition includes all of the following:
- The Ghost of Yōtei base game.
- Echoes of Sekigahara narrative expansion.
- Most Wanted single-player combat-survival mode.
- Ghost of Yōtei Legends multiplayer content.
The Complete Edition was announced at $69.99 USD. An upgrade for existing owners was announced at $14.99 USD. Those were the announced prices, not a guarantee of the current price in every country or storefront; regional pricing, taxes, discounts, and later changes can alter what you pay. | Purchase situation | What you receive | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Base game | Main Ghost of Yōtei adventure | Players interested in Atsu’s core story only. |
| Complete Edition | Base game, Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, and Legends | New buyers who want the full announced package. |
| Upgrade for existing owners | Access to the Complete Edition additions, subject to the entitlement shown for your copy | Players who already own the base game and want the story and solo mode additions. |
Legends is already free for owners, so its online access is not the reason to choose the Complete Edition. The meaningful paid additions are Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted; compare the announced upgrade price with the current Complete Edition price in your region.
Is Ghost of Yōtei difficult?
Yes, but the game does not force every player into one fixed challenge level. The Store lists Adjustable Difficulty (Advanced), which lets you customize the challenge and activate assists individually instead of selecting only a single global preset.
That system is useful when one part of combat is limiting your progress but you still want other elements to remain demanding. You can also use simplified quick-time events, practice mode, control and tutorial reminders, pausing, and manual saving. These options make it possible to reduce execution pressure, learn systems safely, and stop without losing progress to an unavoidable encounter.
New Game Plus difficulty
New Game Plus unlocks after you complete the main story. It adds harder difficulty options for a second playthrough, allowing players who have mastered the campaign to increase the challenge rather than simply repeating the original settings. The New Game Plus update also added directional-button remapping and other accessibility changes.
Accessibility and control options
The available settings cover reading, visual clarity, combat information, controller behavior, motion requirements, and rapid-input sequences. Exact labels can vary slightly by software update or menu context, but the documented options include the following.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do you need for Legends online multiplayer?
Because Legends is online co-op, you need three things: an internet connection, a PlayStation account, and an active PlayStation Plus subscription. The DLC itself is free for Ghost of Yōtei owners, but the subscription requirement applies to online play.
Team size depends on the activity. Story is designed for two players, while Survival and Incursions support four. Incursions are not available immediately: completing groups of Story missions unlocks them. The class roster—Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, and Shinobi—lets a team divide roles, while higher difficulty levels provide additional Legendary weapons and gear as rewards.

Choose the base game if you want the core solo adventure
The base game is sufficient if your priority is Atsu’s main story and exploration. You can still access free Legends content as an owner, provided you meet the online requirements for multiplayer.

Choose the upgrade if you already own the base game
