Buy the Complete Edition if you are a new player and can get it for the cited US price of $69.99. At that price it includes the full Ghost of Yōtei campaign, Legends, the Digital Deluxe bonuses, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, and both paid additions: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. Choose standard when you only want the base campaign and Legends, or when a discounted retail copy is substantially cheaper. If you already own standard, the relevant comparison is the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade.
Complete Edition vs standard: the short answer
The two editions overlap on the core game. Both are built around Ghost of Yōtei’s main single-player adventure, while Legends provides its separate multiplayer experience. The Complete Edition adds the expansion, a new single-player combat mode, and a collection of Digital Deluxe and other in-game bonuses.

Sony announced a $69.99 US price for the Complete Edition. Sony’s earlier standard-edition announcement also listed a $69.99 US launch MSRP, so a new US buyer paying roughly launch price gets materially more content with Complete. Retail discounts can change that calculation: a much cheaper standard copy may be the better entry point if you are unsure about the additional content.

What the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition includes
The complete base game and Legends
Complete Edition includes the award-winning main Ghost of Yōtei game and Ghost of Yōtei Legends. Legends is the separate multiplayer component, supporting up to four online players. Online play requires PlayStation Plus, according to the PlayStation Store listing. The Complete label does not turn Legends into a separate purchase; it is part of the package.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
This means Complete is not an abbreviated bundle or an expansion-only product. A new owner gets the same foundational campaign as a standard buyer, then receives the additional content and bonuses in one transaction. If you plan to alternate between the campaign and Legends, both modes are already covered.
Echoes of Sekigahara expansion
Echoes of Sekigahara is a new narrative expansion. Its story follows Atsu through present-day Ezo and flashbacks to the Battle of Sekigahara. Sony describes a new valley, new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets and dyes. These are additional story and gameplay material rather than merely cosmetic extras.
The expansion is one of the two paid additions tied to Complete Edition. A standard owner does not receive it from the base purchase or from the free October update; that owner needs the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade or the relevant separate purchase route offered for the game.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For buyers who value story content most, this is the clearest distinction between the editions. It adds a new setting area and narrative framework instead of simply unlocking an outfit or an early-game item. The heavy weapons, enemies, armor sets and dyes also give the expansion mechanical and customization elements to use alongside its story.
Most Wanted survival mode
Most Wanted is a new single-player combat survival mode. Sucker Punch describes it as its own spin on a roguelike. Runs begin with bounties. Defeating enemies earns perks, and additional playable characters unlock as you progress. It is designed around repeatable runs and combat choices, so it serves a different purpose from the fixed campaign structure.
A run-based format matters if you want something to return to after finishing the main story. Bounties establish the objective for each run, perks provide progression during the run, and character unlocks give later attempts a broader roster. None of that replaces the campaign or turns the mode into online co-op.
Most Wanted is also a paid Complete addition. It should not be confused with Legends: Most Wanted is single-player, while Legends is the up-to-four-player online mode that requires PlayStation Plus for online play.
Digital Deluxe content and Charm of Hokkyokusei
Complete Edition includes all in-game content from the Digital Deluxe Edition plus the Charm of Hokkyokusei. The PlayStation Store listing identifies the included items as:
- In-game mask
- Charm of Hokkyokusei
- Snake Armor
- Digital Deluxe armor dye
- Digital Deluxe horse and saddle
- Sword kit
- Traveler’s Maps early unlock
- Charm of Amaterasu
These bonuses cover appearance, equipment, mounts, charms and an early-unlock convenience. They expand the ways you can customize Atsu and the horse, but they are not the same thing as the two new paid modes. A buyer primarily interested in the expansion and survival mode should value those separately from the cosmetic package.
Rank #2
- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
The Traveler’s Maps early unlock is also distinct from receiving an entirely different campaign. It is an early-access convenience within the game’s map-related content, while the armor, dye, mask, horse, saddle and sword kit are in-game customization items. The Complete Edition therefore combines substantial new play content with a sizeable bonus package rather than offering only one type of upgrade.
What the standard edition includes
Base campaign and Legends
The standard edition is the base Ghost of Yōtei game. It includes the main campaign and Legends, giving a new player the core single-player and multiplayer experiences without the Complete-only additions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStandard is consequently a complete way to start the original game, not a trial version. The trade-off is that Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, the Digital Deluxe items and Charm of Hokkyokusei are outside the base package. You can still receive the free update features described below.
Launch price and availability
Sony’s standard-edition announcement listed a launch MSRP of $69.99 USD, £69.99, €79.99 or ¥8,980. It stated that the edition would be available at retail and on the PlayStation Store. Those are launch MSRPs, not a guarantee of the current price: retailer discounts, regional pricing and promotions can change what you actually pay.
The matching US MSRP is why the Complete Edition is the straightforward recommendation for a new buyer at launch-level pricing. The comparison should be made using the price actually shown in your region, however, rather than assuming that a temporary standard sale or a different currency converts directly to $69.99.
Pre-order bonuses are not the Complete package
The standard announcement listed a unique in-game mask and seven PSN avatars as pre-order bonuses, subject to the stated redemption requirements. A pre-order item should not be assumed to be included in every standard copy or in every region after launch. Check the listing or product packaging for the specific copy you are buying.
Those pre-order items should also be kept separate from the Digital Deluxe bundle. The Complete Edition list includes an in-game mask, but the standard announcement’s pre-order mask and seven avatars are described as bonuses with their own redemption conditions. Product descriptions are the safest way to establish which bonus belongs to a particular order.
What standard does not include
Standard does not include the Digital Deluxe bonuses, Charm of Hokkyokusei, Echoes of Sekigahara or Most Wanted as part of the base purchase. Those items require the relevant upgrade or purchase route. The standard edition still receives the free features in the October update described below.
Free patch content versus paid Complete content
Edition ownership does not determine access to every post-launch feature. Sony’s October 1, 2026 patch adds several features for all owners, including people who stay with standard:
Rank #3
- Battle against over 50 players simultaneously in a massive multiplayer playground.
- Compete in an all-out mass start race—collide, grind, and fight your way to the finish
- Customize your character to show off your style to your friends or show up the competition.
- Bike, ski, snowboard, or wingsuit through a seamless open world in Career mode or multiplayer events.
- Go wild on the heights of iconic US national parks like Yosemite, Zion, and Bryce Canyon.
- Beauty of Yōtei, a screensaver-like mode
- Watanabe Mode tracks
- An option to keep one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s stats
- A high-contrast accessibility option
These features do not require the Complete Edition Upgrade. They are separate from Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted, which are the paid additions associated with Complete Edition or the $14.99 upgrade.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
This distinction is important for anyone buying standard during a sale. You are not locked out of the visual, audio, equipment-appearance or accessibility improvements in the patch. The money you would spend on Complete is buying the new narrative expansion, the single-player survival mode and the listed bonus content.
Patch timing and download requirements
Sony says the paid additions arrive through patch v2.0 on October 1, 2026 globally, with October 2 in some territories. Downloading them requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. Plan for the patch before expecting the new content to appear in-game; owning the correct edition alone does not remove the download requirement.
The territory difference means the date displayed for you may be October 2 even though the global announcement uses October 1. An internet connection is needed to download the additions, and a PlayStation account is required for that process. These are delivery requirements, not an indication that the campaign itself becomes online-only.
How much value does Complete Edition add?
For a new buyer at about $69.99
Complete is the clear value choice at the cited US price when standard costs the same or nearly the same. You receive the entire base game and Legends, then add a narrative expansion, a replayable single-player combat mode and the Digital Deluxe package without buying each component separately.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The recommendation assumes you want access to the additional content eventually. If you only intend to play the main campaign once and have no interest in repeatable combat runs, new story material or cosmetic bonuses, paying for Complete may not change your experience enough to justify a price premium.
At equal pricing, there is also less practical friction: you do not need to finish the campaign, monitor a later promotion or return to the store to decide whether to upgrade. The value is not that every bonus is essential, but that the complete bundle costs the same as the cited standard launch MSRP in the United States.
For a discounted standard retail copy
A standard copy becomes attractive when its discount is large enough to outweigh the $14.99 upgrade benchmark and the value you place on the included extras. You can play the base game and Legends first, then decide whether Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted are worth adding. This staged approach is particularly sensible if you are buying during a sale or are uncertain how much time you will spend with the game.
For example, compare the checkout total for a discounted standard copy plus the $14.99 upgrade with the current Complete price. If you never intend to buy the upgrade, compare standard’s lower price only against the value of the base campaign and Legends. There is no universal discount threshold because the answer depends on whether the expansion, survival mode and bonus items matter to you.

For an existing standard owner
Existing owners should compare the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade with their personal interest in the two paid additions. The upgrade is the direct route to the Complete content. The free October patch features arrive separately, so do not buy the upgrade merely to obtain Beauty of Yōtei, Watanabe Mode tracks, armor appearance/stat separation or high-contrast mode.
Do not purchase a second full game copy simply because the Complete product page is more visible. Check the add-on or upgrade listing while signed into the account that owns standard. The upgrade is specifically priced for the existing-owner situation and avoids rebuying the base campaign and Legends.
Which edition should you buy?
Choose Complete Edition when:
- You are buying new at roughly $69.99 in the United States.
- You want the full story offering, including Echoes of Sekigahara.
- You expect to spend time with the repeatable Most Wanted survival mode.
- You want the Digital Deluxe cosmetics, charms, Snake Armor, horse and saddle, sword kit or Traveler’s Maps early unlock.
- You prefer one purchase rather than evaluating an upgrade later.
- You want the same base game and Legends as standard while adding every item identified in the Complete listing.
Choose standard edition when:
- You find it substantially cheaper than Complete at retail.
- Your priority is the original campaign and Legends.
- You do not care about the new narrative expansion, survival mode or Digital Deluxe bonuses.
- You want to start with the base game and decide later whether the $14.99 upgrade is worthwhile.
- You are comfortable checking a later store listing if you eventually want the paid additions.
Choose the $14.99 upgrade when:
- You already own standard and want both paid additions.
- You want Complete’s additional in-game bonuses without rebuying the base game.
- You understand that the free patch features do not require this purchase.
- You have an internet connection and PlayStation account available to download the additions.
Physical and digital buying considerations
Standard physical copies
Sony confirmed retail availability for the standard edition, so a physical standard copy is an established purchase option. Availability, stock, packaging and regional pricing are retailer-specific. Check that the box identifies the standard edition and verify whether any advertised pre-order bonus still applies before paying.
When comparing a disc to a digital copy, use the actual local price and confirm the edition name. A retailer may describe a product as a launch, standard or bonus-included copy, while the contents and redemption terms can differ by territory and timing.
Complete Edition format
The cited Complete Edition price comes from Sony’s announcement and PlayStation Store listing, both at $69.99 in the United States. The cited Store listing is digital. Sony’s standard announcement confirms retail availability, but the information here does not establish a physical Complete Edition release in every territory. If physical media matters, check local listings for the exact Complete Edition format rather than assuming that a digital listing has a disc equivalent.
A physical standard copy may still be paired with the upgrade later, but confirm that the account and disc region are compatible with the store listing you intend to use. Regional pricing and availability can change, so the product page at checkout is the final check for format and cost.
Account and online dependencies
Internet access and a PlayStation account are required to download the paid additions through patch v2.0. Legends supports up to four online players, and online play requires PlayStation Plus. These requirements apply regardless of whether your base game arrived on disc or through the PlayStation Store.
PlayStation Plus is specifically an online-play requirement for Legends; it is not listed as a requirement for the single-player campaign or Most Wanted. Keep that distinction in mind if you are buying Complete for solo play rather than multiplayer.

- Assuming the free patch equals Complete Edition: The October features are available to all owners, but the expansion and Most Wanted remain paid Complete content.
- Comparing MSRP with a temporary sale without noting it: Standard’s $69.99 figure is a launch MSRP, while a retailer’s lower price may be promotional or time-limited.
- Expecting standard to include Digital Deluxe items: The mask, Snake Armor, horse and saddle, sword kit, maps and charms belong to the Complete/Digital Deluxe package, not the standard base purchase.
- Confusing Most Wanted with Legends: Most Wanted is single-player survival content; Legends is the online mode for up to four players.
- Buying twice as an existing owner: Check for the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade before purchasing a new full-price copy.
- Ignoring regional timing: Patch v2.0 is stated for October 1 globally and October 2 in some territories, so release timing can differ by location.
- Assuming every physical listing is Complete: Sony confirmed retail standard availability, while the cited Complete listing is digital. Verify the exact format.
- Treating pre-order bonuses as permanent edition content: The standard announcement’s mask and seven avatars had redemption requirements and should be verified for the specific order.
Where to buy
For a physical purchase, look for a clearly labeled Ghost of Yōtei PS5 standard-edition listing and compare the current retailer price with the $69.99 Complete Edition on PlayStation Store. Confirm stock, region, edition name and any bonus wording at checkout. If you already own standard digitally or on disc, search the PlayStation Store for the Complete Edition Upgrade rather than adding another base-game listing.

Final buying decision
For a new US buyer paying around $69.99, Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition is the stronger purchase because it keeps the standard game and Legends while adding Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, the Digital Deluxe contents and Charm of Hokkyokusei. Buy standard when its discount is substantial or when you only want the original campaign and Legends. If standard is already in your library, spend $14.99 on the Complete Edition Upgrade only when the expansion and survival mode justify it; the free October features arrive whether you upgrade or not.
