The expansion is designed to answer a character question the original revenge story could only hint at: what changed Atsu before the events of the main campaign?
What Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition includes
Sony Interactive Entertainment describes Complete Edition as a PS5 release containing the full story campaign, Ghost of Yōtei Legends multiplayer, Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara. The story content moves between Atsu’s present-day journey and flashbacks to her time on the mainland, so the added material is not simply a separate challenge pack.

VGC characterizes the release as a rerelease of the PS5’s 2025 exclusive with both additions included. Retail pricing, upgrade eligibility and regional offers can change, so owners should check the current listing for their country rather than rely on a universal price claim.
Echoes of Sekigahara shows a different side of Atsu
The original game gives Atsu a complete revenge arc. Parker Hamilton told VGC that the team had wanted more time to explore her past, while Joanna Wang said the expansion goes “one layer down” to show what changed her. That is the dramatic purpose of Echoes of Sekigahara: it adds context to Atsu’s personality instead of extending the same revenge motivation with another target.

The structure is built around two periods of Atsu’s life. Erika Ishii, who performs Atsu, described preparing for those separate periods so she could move between them in the recording booth. Players therefore see the established, revenge-focused Atsu alongside the experiences that shaped her before the main story.
The Snake gets context after his early death
The Snake, one of the Yōtei Six, is killed within roughly the first 10 minutes of the base game. Wang said the team wanted to introduce the Six quickly, even though that meant The Snake was the first member to die. Echoes of Sekigahara brings Atsu to a region where he had a larger impact and follows outlaws competing to claim the title “The Snake.”

Sekigahara is a viewpoint, not a historical recreation
Wang cautioned that the team is not making a historical document or recreating the Battle of Sekigahara one-to-one. The expansion tells its story through Atsu’s perspective. That distinction matters for players expecting a literal battlefield simulation: the historical setting supplies context, while the narrative remains character-led and shaped by the game’s fictional world.

New combat tools and a more open region
Hamilton said Echoes of Sekigahara adds mechanics intended to work beyond the expansion itself. Among the examples are massive weapons and an armored brute that forces players to use the tools already available to them rather than relying on one favored attack. The stated goal is to make those additions part of the wider game, not disposable abilities confined to one quest line.
Wang also described the expansion’s region as the highest setting in the Ghost games. There is no mountain acting as the central visual compass, the wind is meant to feel stronger, and the landscape is designed to feel almost endless. That changes navigation and atmosphere: the horizon, rather than a single landmark, becomes the dominant impression.

The art direction grew from research references gathered in Hokkaido and from a deliberately broadened color palette. Wang recalled the team asking, “what color of flower have we not made yet?” The result is an area intended to feel distinct from the existing map through elevation, openness and color as much as through its missions.

Most Wanted is a roguelike mode with a different relationship to the story. Ishii confirmed that it is non-canonical, includes new dialogue and has a more mystical tone, similar to the mythological quality associated with Legends multiplayer. Its heightened style means events in the mode should not be read as new facts about Atsu’s official timeline.

Jin Sakai returns in Most Wanted, and Daisaku Tsuji recorded new voice lines for the mode. His appearance is therefore a designed crossover within a non-canonical format, not a claim that Jin has entered the main Ghost of Yōtei narrative.
What the veterans’ history says about Sucker Punch
VGC reported in its October 15, 2026 interview that Wang and Hamilton have more than three decades of combined experience at Sucker Punch. Wang joined while the studio was developing the second Sly Cooper game, when artists painted characters rather than using the modern normal-map workflows she later encountered.
That detail offers a useful, limited history of the studio’s craft: veteran artists who began in a hand-painted Sly Cooper pipeline now apply that accumulated experience to large-scale Ghost environments, character performances and production art. It does not establish a complete founding chronology, ownership timeline or exhaustive game-by-game history, and those broader claims should not be inferred from the interviews.
Who should choose Complete Edition?
- New PS5 players: Complete Edition is the straightforward way to obtain the campaign, Legends, Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara together.
- Players focused on Atsu’s character: Echoes is the relevant addition because its flashbacks and mainland setting explore the experiences behind her revenge quest.
- Players who prefer repeatable combat: Most Wanted offers a separate, non-canonical roguelike structure, while the expansion’s massive weapons and armored-brute encounters broaden the combat toolkit.
- Existing owners: Whether buying again or using an upgrade path makes sense depends on the current regional terms, which are not established in the cited interviews.
PlayStation Blog published its developer interview on October 2, 2026, and VGC published its interview on October 15, 2026. Together, they frame Complete Edition as both a package of new modes and an opportunity to revisit Atsu through memories the original revenge story left largely unexplored.
