Before that date, missing clues and ghosts are expected rather than a broken quest. Once the puzzle is available, enter the Haunted Floating Island through the Plaza portal or the Event tab, install the latest update, and work through the refresh and camera checks below.
The objective is to find 10 ghosts on the festival grounds and photograph them with the in-game camera. Completing the hunt awards a furniture item. The October 8, 2026 hotfix addressed several other ghost and progression problems, but its notes do not promise a fix for every report of missing Ghost Hunt clues.

What the missing clues usually mean
There are two fundamentally different situations. A player who is checking before the scheduled unlock is seeing normal event timing. A player checking after the unlock may be dealing with event access, an outdated client, a stale island session, an unregistered camera interaction, or an account-specific progression problem.

| When you are checking | Most likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Before October 18, 2026 | Ghost Hunt has not reached its planned unlock. | Wait for the scheduled unlock; no troubleshooting step can make a time-gated puzzle appear early. |
| On or after October 18, but not on the island | You are in the Valley or another event screen rather than the Haunted Floating Island festival grounds. | Use the Plaza portal or the Event tab’s teleport option. |
| On the island with an old game build | Your client may not contain the latest event or progression fixes. | Install every available patch, then relaunch. |
| After updating, with clues or ghosts still absent | The event session or progression state may not have refreshed correctly. | Close the game fully, reopen it online, leave the island, and re-enter. |
The Haunted Floating Festival itself runs from October 7 through October 31, 2026. Ghost Hunt is one puzzle within that event, not a permanent Valley activity.

Check the unlock date before changing anything
Before the scheduled date
Do not treat an empty festival area as evidence of a defect before October 18. The official event announcement schedules Ghost Hunt for that date, so the clues and ghosts are not expected to be available earlier. Reinstalling the game, deleting saves, or repeatedly changing maps cannot bypass a server-controlled event schedule and could create avoidable risk.
On and after the scheduled date
After the unlock date, close any old event menu, reopen the game while connected to the internet, and check the Event tab again. A live-service event can require the client to retrieve current event state before a newly unlocked puzzle is displayed. This relaunch is a practical refresh, not a documented guarantee from Gameloft.
Enter the correct Haunted Floating Festival area
Ghost Hunt takes place on the festival grounds of the Haunted Floating Island. Looking around your ordinary Valley, a character’s house, or a different event destination will not expose the puzzle clues.
- Open the map or the Event tab in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
- Choose the Haunted Floating Festival and select its teleport option, or travel to the Plaza and use the event portal.
- Wait for the Haunted Floating Island to finish loading before searching for clues or ghosts.
- Remain on the festival grounds while checking the objective. If you entered through a different route and the puzzle is not listed, return to the Event tab and teleport again.
The portal and Event tab are the documented access routes. If neither route is visible after the unlock date, treat that as an event-access problem and continue with the update and relaunch checks rather than searching random Valley locations.
Install the latest game update
Before testing the puzzle, update the game on your platform. The October 8, 2026 hotfix shows that Gameloft is shipping fixes for quest freezes, missing progression updates, and ghost-related behavior. Running an older build can leave you without fixes already distributed to players.

- Exit the game to the platform’s home screen so the update client can detect the application.
- Check for updates using your platform’s normal game-management command.
- Allow the download and installation to finish; do not launch while a patch is still pending.
- Start the game and verify that the title screen or settings information reflects the newest installed version available to you.
- Open the Event tab and enter the Haunted Floating Island again.
The hotfix is relevant evidence that updates can affect progression and ghost behavior, but it does not explicitly state that it resolves missing Ghost Hunt clues. An updated build is therefore a prerequisite for sensible troubleshooting, not proof that the puzzle will appear immediately.
Refresh the event session in a safe order
A complete restart and island re-entry are reversible. They do not alter your save and are the least disruptive steps after confirming the date, location, and update.
Fully close and relaunch
- Leave the Haunted Floating Island and save normally if the game presents a save command.
- Quit Disney Dreamlight Valley completely rather than leaving it suspended in the background.
- Confirm that the device is online.
- Launch the game again and wait for the main menu and save data to load.
- Open the Event tab, select the Haunted Floating Festival, and teleport to the island.
- Check the puzzle entry and the festival grounds before attempting any other workaround.
Gameloft has not documented this sequence as a guaranteed Ghost Hunt fix. Its value is practical: it forces a new client session and gives the event state another opportunity to load.
Leave and re-enter the island
If a relaunch did not help, return to the Valley with the Wishing Well or the map, then use the Plaza portal or Event tab to travel back. This refreshes the event area without modifying progression. The step is inferred from the documented event access flow, not published as a Ghost Hunt-specific workaround.
Search and photograph the ghosts correctly
Once the puzzle is unlocked and the island has loaded, the official objective is to photograph 10 ghosts on the festival grounds. The objective is camera-based: seeing a ghost is not the same as registering its photograph.
Rank #3
- Disney Dreamlight Valley - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Use a complete search pattern
- Start at the point where you arrive on the festival grounds and scan each visible section methodically.
- Move through every connected festival-ground area instead of checking only the first plaza or clearing.
- When a ghost is visible, equip the in-game camera and frame the ghost clearly.
- Take the photograph and wait for the interaction or objective counter to update before moving on.
- Keep a manual count of completed photographs so you can distinguish an undiscovered ghost from an interaction that failed to register.
The event announcement establishes the total of 10 ghosts, but it does not provide a verified room-by-room location list. Be wary of guides that present an exact route as official unless they can be tied to a current game update.

If a photograph does not count
Keep the ghost in frame and repeat the camera interaction. A visible ghost that remains after the photograph may indicate that the first capture did not register, rather than a new target. Move closer or adjust the framing, take another photograph, and check whether the objective count changes.
If one target still refuses to count, leave the island and re-enter before trying the photograph again. Do not assume that a completed-looking picture in your device’s screenshot folder is proof that the event objective received it; the relevant confirmation is the in-game objective update.
Do not confuse other ghost bugs with Ghost Hunt
The October 8 hotfix notes mention two separate issues: ghosts remaining in Mickey’s House and Merlin’s Library after the quest “The Oogie Boogie Contract,” and a reward-claim problem that could block “A Halloween Invasion.” Those notes confirm that Gameloft has fixed specific ghost and progression defects, but they do not say that every ghost-related report belongs to Ghost Hunt.
| What you observe | Likely category | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Ghost Hunt clues are absent before the scheduled unlock. | Event schedule | Expected timing; wait for the unlock. |
| No Ghost Hunt entry after the unlock, even after entering the island. | Event access or progression state | Update, relaunch, and re-enter; escalate if it persists. |
| Ghosts remain in Mickey’s House or Merlin’s Library after “The Oogie Boogie Contract.” | Separate hotfix issue | Related to the documented hotfix, not evidence that Ghost Hunt itself is missing. |
| “A Halloween Invasion” cannot progress because a reward cannot be claimed. | Separate reward-claim issue | Use the hotfix context for that quest rather than applying its symptoms to Ghost Hunt. |
| A Ghost Hunt photograph appears to work but the count does not change. | Possible interaction or progression failure | Repeat the capture, refresh the island, and document the exact state. |
An anecdotal player report about a Haunted Floating Festival reward or completion anomaly is not confirmation of a general game rule or a universal fix. Treat an individual report as a lead only, not as proof that your save has the same fault.

Choose the next step by timing, scope, and evidence
The order below minimizes unnecessary changes and separates documented behavior from reasonable troubleshooting.
| Step | Timing | Scope | Reversible? | Evidence strength |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Check the scheduled unlock | Before or after October 18 | Event schedule | Yes | Official event announcement |
| Use the Plaza portal or Event tab | After unlock | Event access | Yes | Official access instructions |
| Install the available patch | Any time after a release | Client version and progression fixes | Normally yes | Official October 8 hotfix notes |
| Fully close and relaunch online | After updating | Client/session refresh | Yes | Practical inference; not a guaranteed Ghost Hunt fix |
| Leave and re-enter the island | After relaunch | Event-area refresh | Yes | Inference from documented access flow |
| Repeat camera interactions across all sections | After clues or ghosts appear | Objective registration | Yes | Official 10-ghost objective |
| Contact support | After persistent failure | Account or progression investigation | Yes | Official escalation path |
What to include when contacting support
If the clues remain absent after the scheduled unlock, update, restart, and island re-entry, stop repeating the same cycle and report the failure through Gameloft’s Known Issues and support channels. Include enough detail for the report to be tied to the correct event and build.
- Your platform and, if relevant, the edition or account environment in which the problem occurs.
- Your installed game version and the date and approximate time you tested.
- The fact that the affected activity is Puzzle 9, Ghost Hunt, in the 2026 Haunted Floating Festival.
- Whether you tested before or after the October 18 unlock, and whether the Haunted Floating Island was reached through the Plaza portal or Event tab.
- The exact symptom: no puzzle clue, no ghosts, a photograph that does not increment the counter, or a reward that does not appear.
- The number of ghosts successfully photographed, if any, and the section of the festival grounds where the failure occurred.
- A screenshot or short video showing the Event tab, the festival area, and the unchanged objective when possible.
Check the Known Issues page before submitting a duplicate report. If an entry matches your symptom, follow its stated workaround and status. If it does not, submit the details above rather than labeling every ghost problem as the same bug.
Common mistakes that make the problem look worse
- Searching before the unlock: an empty area is normal before the scheduled date.
- Checking the Valley instead of the festival grounds: the puzzle is tied to the Haunted Floating Island.
- Running an old build: related progression fixes cannot help until the patch is installed.
- Counting a camera image instead of an in-game registration: repeat the interaction if the objective counter does not change.
- Assuming a hotfix title covers every ghost report: the October 8 notes identify specific quests and locations, not all possible Ghost Hunt failures.
- Changing or deleting save data as a first response: the documented and reversible checks should come first.
When the puzzle is working as intended
You should be able to open the event interface after the unlock, reach the Haunted Floating Island through an official route, find the festival-ground ghosts, and see the objective advance as each of the 10 photographs registers. The furniture reward is tied to completing the hunt, so a missing reward after a genuinely completed objective is a different symptom from clues that never appeared.
Keep the distinction clear: schedule and access problems are solved by waiting or entering the correct area; client and session problems are addressed by updating, relaunching, and re-entering; registration or account problems require repeat camera interactions and, if unresolved, a support report with evidence.
