How citation-gap analysis works
The platform’s Citation Intelligence feature offers domain- and URL-level views of cited sources, with classifications and information about brand and competitor presence. The vendor says users can examine citation share, brand coverage, prompt-funnel context, and an influenceability status, then filter results, recheck them, and export data as CSV. These are documented product capabilities, not evidence that every flagged source can be persuaded to change its content.

That distinction matters: a competitor’s presence on a cited page may identify a lead, but it does not prove the page is open to edits, relevant to a buyer’s audience, or likely to affect an AI answer if updated. The analysis is most useful as a prioritization aid for human review.

The vendor says opportunities are scored using factors such as citation strength and velocity, competitor presence, funnel stage, relevance, and influenceability. Users can request pricing or outreach, approve offers, track work through a live URL, contact support within an order, and pay from a prepaid wallet with invoices.
These steps describe a managed digital-placement service. A completed placement is not automatically an AI citation: an answer engine may not use the page, may cite a different source, or may change its answer for other reasons. Before approving an offer, establish what the quoted work includes, whether you can reject a publisher or draft, what counts as completion, and how links and sponsorship disclosures will be handled.

What the published evidence can establish
Answer sources can change between checks
In a 2026 guide, GetMentions AI reports analyzing 530,875 citations drawn from 2,398 real-world queries. The company says it asked those queries once daily for seven days across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and Gemini, and found that 69% of the typical answer’s sources changed from one day to the next. It reports daily source changes of 88% for Gemini and 44% for Perplexity. The company characterizes this as directional evidence from one seven-day window, not a stable rate for all prompts, users, or periods. Correlation is not proof that placements work
A separate 2026 GetMentions AI guide, reporting on 75,000 brands, gives correlations of about 0.737 for YouTube mentions, 0.66–0.71 for branded web mentions, and about 0.22 for backlinks against AI visibility. The guide explicitly says correlation does not establish causation. Those figures cannot show that purchasing a mention or placement will raise a brand’s visibility; brands with greater visibility may also have more mentions for other reasons. Independent validation remains limited
An AI Journal review published in 2026 describes inspecting stored answer text and cited URLs. It also says the public proof layer is thin for buyers seeking public case studies or independent benchmark tests. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a broad independent study of the service. How to evaluate it before spending
Separate the decision into measurement quality, placement quality, and outcome evidence. A persuasive demo should let your team inspect concrete records, not just a summary score.
Check measurement coverage
- Confirm which four of the six standard platforms are included in the plan you are considering; an AI Journal review says standard subscriptions included any four, rather than all six by default.
- Ask how prompts are refreshed and how the service records geography, platform or model choice, and answer text.
- Use a representative prompt set and compare repeated checks, since one-time citation results may shift.
- Inspect saved answers and cited URLs to ensure the reported gap is visible in the underlying evidence.
Scrutinize each placement
- Check whether the cited page genuinely fits your audience and whether its publisher can actually make the proposed change.
- Ask what the quote covers, whether you can reject the publisher or draft, and what constitutes delivery.
- Clarify editorial control, link treatment, and any required sponsorship disclosure.
- Keep the live URL and order record so you can verify what was published.
Set an outcome test in advance
Before execution, record baseline answers and citations for the prompts that matter. After the placement is live, repeat the same checks and inspect whether the page is cited, whether the brand is mentioned, and whether the answer changes. Treat those observations as monitoring—not proof of business impact. GetMentions AI’s documented proposition is coherent: monitor answers, inspect cited sources, identify possible gaps, and request managed placements. Its source-level views and influenceability concept may help a team decide what to investigate. The evidence available publicly does not independently validate placement outcomes at scale or prove that placements cause better AI visibility or business results. Buyers should judge it on inspectable records, the quality and terms of individual opportunities, and repeat measurement after delivery.
