You can preorder iPhone Duo from 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time on October 16, 2026, and potentially receive up to $1,200 in AT&T promotional credits. The maximum is not an instant payment: it depends on an eligible trade-in, carrier activation, an approved plan and installment compliance. T-Mobile advertises up to $1,000 in credits, while Apple lists a Verizon activation and financing path without stating a comparable maximum in its launch details.

Apple’s October 15, 2026 launch announcement says buyers can receive “including up to $1,200 in credit toward iPhone Duo when trading in iPhone 14 Pro Max or higher.” That is a promotional ceiling, not a guaranteed value for every device. The trade-in must meet Apple’s eligibility and condition requirements, and the carrier activation and financing arrangement must remain compliant.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
AT&T’s offer is delivered through 36 monthly bill credits. It is therefore a subsidy attached to qualifying service and installments rather than $1,200 deposited at checkout. If you cancel the qualifying line, stop meeting the installment requirements or otherwise leave the arrangement early, you may not receive the remaining credits and could still owe the unpaid device balance.
A trade-in is completed directly with Apple when you buy online or in an Apple Store. During checkout, Apple lets you authorize activation on an AT&T Unlimited plan, any T-Mobile phone plan or an eligible Verizon Unlimited plan. The iPhone Duo page also offers “connect on your own later,” which is the route to compare when you do not want to activate a carrier plan during the purchase.

Carrier offers compared
Apple’s published launch information establishes the following high-level differences. Individual trade-in values, taxes, fees, plan eligibility and credit schedules should be confirmed in checkout because the headline maximum is conditional.
| Carrier | Maximum promotional amount stated | Trade-in model and condition | Required plan | Installment length | New or existing customers | Credits after cancellation or upgrade |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AT&T | Up to $1,200 | Apple’s launch example identifies iPhone 14 Pro Max or higher; exact condition rules are not stated in the launch details. | AT&T Unlimited | 36 monthly bill credits | AT&T says new and existing customers can qualify with an eligible trade-in. | Leaving the qualifying arrangement early can reduce the realized value; exact recovery and upgrade terms must be checked at checkout. |
| T-Mobile | Up to $1,000 | Qualifying model and condition details are not stated in Apple’s high-level offer summary. | Any T-Mobile phone plan | Not stated in Apple’s launch details | Not stated in Apple’s launch details | Not stated in Apple’s launch details; review the T-Mobile agreement before upgrading or canceling. |
| Verizon | Not stated in Apple’s launch details | Qualifying model and condition details are not stated. | Eligible Verizon Unlimited plan | Not stated in Apple’s launch details | Not stated in Apple’s launch details | Not stated in Apple’s launch details; confirm the financing and promotional-credit terms before committing. |
The amounts are not directly interchangeable. AT&T’s $1,200 headline is tied to a documented 36-month credit schedule, while Apple’s summary does not provide equivalent installment or cancellation details for T-Mobile and Verizon.

How the AT&T credit is applied
At purchase
Select the iPhone Duo storage tier, choose trade-in, and authorize activation on the qualifying AT&T Unlimited plan. Apple evaluates the trade-in and records the carrier arrangement as part of checkout.
During the installment term
AT&T applies the approved promotional amount as monthly bill credits over 36 months. The full “up to” value is realized only if the trade-in qualifies at the promised level and you keep the required service and installment arrangement for the credit period.
Rank #4
- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
If you leave early
Any unpaid device balance can remain due even when future promotional credits stop. Because the exact treatment can depend on cancellation, upgrade and payment status, read the terms shown for your line rather than assuming the remaining credits will be paid as cash.
Trade-in and preorder checklist
- Choose storage first. Confirm whether you need 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB and record the corresponding $1,999–$3,199 pre-credit price.
- Prepare the old phone. Photograph its condition, back up your data and remove personal accounts only after the backup is verified.
- Run Apple’s eligibility check. Enter the exact model and condition in Apple’s checkout flow; do not assume that a similar model receives the maximum.
- Compare the commitment. Check the required unlimited plan, installment duration and expected time you will remain with the carrier.
- Read the exit rules. Look specifically for cancellation, upgrade, missed-payment and early-payoff language governing unpaid promotional credits.
- Document shipment. Keep the trade-in receipt and tracking information, then verify that Apple or the carrier records the correct device after inspection.
Common ways the headline savings can fall short
- Using the wrong model assumption: Apple’s maximum-credit example is iPhone 14 Pro Max or higher, not every older iPhone.
- Condition mismatch: A device that fails the inspection may receive less credit or lose eligibility under the promotion.
- Leaving before the term ends: Monthly credits are generally tied to continuing service and installments; stopping early can forfeit future credits.
- Choosing an incompatible plan: Activation must match the carrier and plan category shown by Apple at checkout.
- Losing trade-in proof: Without a shipment receipt or inspection record, resolving a valuation dispute is harder.
Which path fits your situation?
Choose AT&T when you can keep the line for 36 months
AT&T is the clearest match for shoppers targeting the largest stated credit and willing to maintain the qualifying Unlimited plan and installments for the full period. Its eligibility statement covers both new and existing customers.

Consider T-Mobile when its plan fits better
T-Mobile’s headline maximum is lower at up to $1,000, but Apple’s summary allows activation on any T-Mobile phone plan. Confirm the specific trade-in, installment and customer-status rules before ordering.
Use Verizon only after confirming the individualized quote
Apple lists an eligible Verizon Unlimited activation and financing option but does not state a comparable maximum credit in the launch information. Obtain the exact offer and cancellation terms during checkout.
Use “connect on your own later” when flexibility matters most
This option lets you compare an unlocked-style purchase path without accepting a carrier activation at the moment of preorder. It may avoid promotional-plan obligations, but it also does not by itself establish eligibility for the carrier credits above.
