Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou can get the Morph Ball Bomb before the usual progression in Metroid Dread by taking an optional route through Artaria to collect the Grapple Beam, then returning to Dairon. You’ll need the Varia Suit and Wide Beam first. The detour includes tricky platforming and an E.M.M.I. zone crossing, but it can also enable an optional alternate interaction during the Kraid fight.
What you need before taking the detour
Collect the Varia Suit and Wide Beam before attempting this route. The early pickup also depends on getting the Grapple Beam in Artaria before returning to Dairon. This is an optional sequence break, not a required route for finishing the game.

How to reach the Grapple Beam early
- Head to Dairon rather than continuing toward Kraid. Enter the heated section and use the platforming route that opens the hidden elevator to Artaria. The jumps and ledge maneuvers can take practice, so be prepared to retry them.
- Take the elevator to Artaria and find the Grapple Beam. From the elevator room, follow the route to the statue room containing the upgrade.
- Return to Dairon. With the Grapple Beam acquired, go back through the elevator and prepare to cross the relevant E.M.M.I. zone.
Cross Dairon’s E.M.M.I. zone and collect the Bomb
- Save at the lower Network Station. Enter the E.M.M.I. zone from the bottom-right entrance and make your way to the top-left exit, following the route markers in the Nintendo Life route guide.
- Use the Grapple Beam to clear the obstruction. Grapple away the obstructing block, then follow the nearby path toward the Map Room.
- Restore power. Activate the generator, leave through the generator room, and continue upward to the room containing the Morph Ball Bomb.
Nintendo describes the Bomb as an ability used in Morph Ball form to destroy walls and damage enemies. Its Metroid Dread abilities page also identifies the game as a Nintendo Switch title.

Why getting the Bomb early can matter
Nintendo’s Metroid Dread Report vol. 11 explains that an exploding bomb launches Samus while she is in Morph Ball form. Dropping another bomb in midair and positioning Samus over it as it explodes can send her higher; repeated bomb jumps can reach places a regular jump cannot. Nintendo also notes that combinations of abilities can open alternate routes through ZDR.

The route guide says the early Bomb can be used with a Morph Ball launcher to send Samus into Kraid’s belly during the boss’s second phase. Treat this as an optional alternate interaction, not a requirement for the boss or the game. The official Nintendo material describes bomb-jump mechanics and alternate-route exploration, but does not document this exact early Grapple Beam and Bomb route.

Try it if you want to explore an optional route, experiment with bomb jumps, or attempt the alternate Kraid interaction. If you prefer to follow the ordinary progression, you can skip the detour; the available route guide does not establish that going early is faster or better for every player.
