Create a download URL in your own backend, and only after two checks that are separate from each other: the provider job has reached a successful terminal state, and the marketplace user asking for the output is entitled to that specific record. The provider can confirm the first check. The second is an application decision, and your code has to enforce it every time someone requests a download.
Job success and user permission are different signals
A provider’s success status describes the job. It says an OCR run finished or a video was generated. It says nothing about whether the buyer, seller, or support agent who triggered the request may receive the result. Keep these in separate fields of your data model, so that a job-status change never silently becomes an access decision.

- Provider job state answers: did the work finish, and did it succeed?
- Output location answers: where is the result now, and how long will the provider keep it there?
- Entitlement answers: may this user, through this marketplace record, receive the output at this moment?
The workflow in order
- Start the job and persist its identifier. Store the provider job ID on the marketplace record (order, listing, or asset row) at the moment the provider returns it. Amazon Textract returns a job ID from its asynchronous start call. The OpenAI video API returns a job object that includes a status field. Store the operation type with the ID so a later event can be matched to the correct request.
- Track completion through the provider’s supported mechanism. For Textract, subscribe to completion notifications. For generated video, read the job’s status from the job endpoint. The two approaches are covered below.
- Process every event idempotently. Correlate the event with the stored job ID, confirm that the operation matches the one you started, and change the record’s state only if it is not already in that state.
- Branch on the terminal status. A success status moves the record to retrieval. A failure or error status stores the failure and never creates a download link.
- Retrieve or locate the output. If the product needs the file for longer than the provider keeps it, copy it into storage you control at this stage.
- Authorize the specific request. Evaluate entitlement on each download request, not only once when the job completes.
- Issue a short-lived URL or proxy the download. You choose the URL technology and its lifetime, or you stream the bytes through an authorized handler. The provider documentation does not set either.
Tracking completion without polling
The central design choice is whether your system waits for a provider event or repeatedly asks the provider whether the job is done. The two providers below are examples of how this choice looks in practice. Your pipeline does not have to use either of them.

Asynchronous Textract processing supports multipage PDF and TIFF documents. Asynchronous single-page inputs can be JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or PDF. When a job finishes, Textract publishes a completion message to an Amazon SNS topic. Your application can consume that message through an Amazon SQS queue or an AWS Lambda function.

AWS advises against using the Get operations to discover completion. The official guidance reads:
“We don’t recommend getting the request completion status by repeatedly calling the Get operation.”

Use the job ID and operation to match the event to your record. Treat the message as a signal for backend state, not as proof that a particular user may download anything. A notification you cannot correlate to a stored request should be logged and set aside rather than acted on.

The status field in the notification uses three values: SUCCEEDED, FAILED, and ERROR. Only SUCCEEDED leads to result retrieval. The Amazon Textract Results Notification page lists the payload fields. After a successful event, call the matching Get operation with the job ID to read the results. The StartDocumentTextDetection reference describes that start-then-retrieve sequence.
OpenAI video generation (example)
Creating a generated video returns a job object with a status. Read that status through the job endpoint, with a polling interval and backoff that you set for your own volume. Check the status values in the current reference and branch only on the values it documents, so that a new or unfamiliar value does not accidentally unlock a download.

When the job is complete, the content endpoint returns the generated video bytes or a derived preview. Confirm which of those your code is storing, because a preview and the full asset are different files and should be recorded as such. The OpenAI Videos API reference documents job creation, status, metadata, and content retrieval.

Handle each terminal state before any link exists
- Success. For Textract, this is
SUCCEEDED. Confirm the output is present in the location you expect, then move to the authorization step. - Failure. For Textract, this is
FAILED. Store the failure against the marketplace record, expose a retry or support path, and generate no download URL. - Error. For Textract, this is
ERROR. Handle it like a failure for the buyer, but log it separately so that unexpected service errors can be distinguished from job-level failures in your reporting. - Non-success video status. Any terminal status from the video job other than success follows the same path as a failure: record it, offer a retry or support path, and create no link.
Make notification handling safe to repeat
Your handler should behave correctly if the same event arrives twice or arrives after a later event for the same job. These practices are engineering guidance for your own code. They are not a provider guarantee about delivery.

- Key each state transition on the job ID plus the target state, so that a repeated event leaves the record unchanged.
- Check the operation named in the event against the operation you started before you advance the record.
- Acknowledge a message only after the state change is committed. If the handler crashes first, the event can be processed again rather than lost.
- Never let a state-change handler generate or return a download URL directly. Keep URL issuance in the request path, where the entitlement check runs.
Authorize every download before issuing a URL
- Load the marketplace record using the job ID stored at submission, not an identifier taken from the notification body or from the client.
- Confirm the requesting user holds the entitlement for that record under your own policy, such as buyer, seller, or permitted staff role.
- Confirm the record is in the successful state and the output it points to is present.
- Issue the short-lived URL, or stream the bytes through your handler.
A completion notification must never serve as a public download link. Its purpose is to advance backend state. The provider references describe job status and output retrieval, not your marketplace’s permission model, so the authorization rules and URL signing approach are yours to design and test.
Retention and expiry: what each provider documents
Output availability is time-limited on both providers, but the limits are defined differently. The table shows what the cited documentation establishes.

Copying output into your own storage moves retention decisions to you, and it also moves the access-control burden. Your bucket policy and your download handler then become the controls that protect the file, so they need the same entitlement checks described above.
