In HotHardware’s September 19, 2018 synthetic tests, both Turing cards led the comparison field. The GeForce RTX 2080 was roughly 20% ahead of GTX 1080 Ti in Superposition 1080p Extreme, while RTX 2080 Ti was about 36% ahead of Titan Xp. In VRMark Blue Room, RTX 2080 Ti led the tested cards and RTX 2080-class cards were about 10% faster than Titan Xp. These are results from a 2018 test pool, not current GPU rankings or buying advice.
What HotHardware tested
Page 4 of HotHardware’s review used two synthetic workloads rather than a broad modern game suite:

- Unigine Superposition: run in DirectX mode at 1080p Extreme and in the VR Future preset. The benchmark is powered by the UNIGINE 2 Engine.
- Futuremark VRMark Blue Room: run at default settings. HotHardware described Blue Room as the most demanding test then offered by VRMark.
The results therefore compare performance within each workload. A score or percentage from Superposition should not be treated as interchangeable with a VRMark result.

Superposition 1080p Extreme results
Both GeForce RTX cards led the tested field in average frame rate. HotHardware’s reported comparisons were:
#1 Best Overall
- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
- Video Memory: 8GB GDDR6
- Memory Interface: 256-bit
- Max. Resolution: Support 4x Display Monitors
- Input: 2x 8pin PCI-E Power Connectors
| Comparison | HotHardware’s 2018 finding | Metric and test |
|---|---|---|
| RTX 2080 vs. GTX 1080 Ti | GTX 1080 Ti trailed RTX 2080 by about 20% | Average frame rate, Superposition 1080p Extreme |
| RTX 2080 Ti vs. Titan Xp | RTX 2080 Ti was about 36% faster | Average frame rate, Superposition 1080p Extreme |
The first figure describes the RTX 2080’s advantage over the previous-generation GTX 1080 Ti in this specific preset. The second compares RTX 2080 Ti with Titan Xp; it does not mean the Ti was 36% faster than every card in the chart.
Superposition VR Future
In Superposition’s VR Future run, HotHardware again placed the RTX cards at the front of the tested group. Titan Xp fell behind RTX 2080 by a few percentage points. The report presents this as a relative ordering and small margin, not a universal VR performance guarantee.
VR Future is still a synthetic rendering workload. It can indicate how the cards handle the benchmark’s rendering path, but headset experience also depends on the application, headset resolution, frame-time consistency, drivers and CPU limits.

VRMark Blue Room results
Blue Room produced the clearest hierarchy among the tested cards: RTX 2080 Ti led, and RTX 2080 cards outpaced Titan Xp by about 10% in HotHardware’s reported results.
| Test | RTX 2080 Ti | RTX 2080 | Reference comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| VRMark Blue Room, default settings | Led the tested cards | Outpaced Titan Xp by about 10% | HotHardware, 2018 results |
Because Blue Room was characterized as VRMark’s most taxing available test at the time, the result was intended as a demanding readiness indicator. It remains a historical benchmark outcome, not a certification that every current VR title will run at a particular refresh rate.
How these results fit other 2018 testing
A separate 2018 Tom’s Hardware review of the RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition reported an average advantage of about 26% over GTX 1080 Ti across its 13-game 4K suite. That review used its own game selection and driver conditions: RTX 2080 Ti results used NVIDIA driver 411.51, while other NVIDIA cards used 398.82. Its 4K average is useful historical context, but it is not a substitute for HotHardware’s Superposition or VRMark measurements.

Why the RTX cards were a new generation
NVIDIA’s 2018 launch announcement introduced GeForce RTX as the first gaming GPUs based on its Turing architecture and RTX platform. The family included dedicated RT Cores for real-time ray tracing, Tensor Cores for neural-network processing, and shader features such as Variable Rate Shading. NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang called Turing “a new golden age of gaming” in promotional remarks before Gamescom; that statement is NVIDIA’s positioning, not an independent benchmark conclusion.
2018 launch context, not current pricing
NVIDIA announced worldwide availability beginning September 20, 2018. The announced prices were $699 for RTX 2080 and $999 for RTX 2080 Ti, with Founders Edition prices of $799 and $1,199 respectively. Those figures describe the 2018 launch and should not be used as today’s used-market, refurbished or new-retail prices. Current stock, condition and pricing are not established here.
Quick Recap
What the page can—and cannot—tell you
Useful conclusions
- RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti were the leaders in HotHardware’s 1080p Extreme Superposition field.
- The RTX 2080’s reported lead over GTX 1080 Ti was about 20% in that preset.
- RTX 2080 Ti’s reported lead over Titan Xp was about 36% in the same test.
- RTX 2080 Ti led Blue Room, while RTX 2080 cards were about 10% ahead of Titan Xp.
Limits of the evidence
- The measurements are synthetic and come from a 2018 test setup.
- They do not establish current rankings against later GPU generations.
- They do not provide a present-day purchase recommendation or a guaranteed VR experience.
- Results from unlike presets—Superposition 1080p Extreme, Superposition VR Future and VRMark Blue Room—should remain separate.
