Xbox announced Gears of War: Reloaded for August 26, 2025, as a remaster of the original game. Its launch announcement listed Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, and gave a suggested retail price of $39.99. Those are launch-era details, not confirmation of today’s price or subscription catalog. Xbox’s announcement describes the release as a remaster, not a new sequel.

The release brings the original to current Xbox consoles and PC, Steam, and PS5. Cross-play and cross-progression
Players can form cross-platform groups for two-player co-op campaign or Versus Multiplayer with up to eight players, according to Xbox Wire. Every party member must be signed into a Microsoft account. Official Xbox and franchise information also describes cross-progression for campaign saves and multiplayer progress; that does not mean a game purchase or platform entitlement transfers between stores. Check the account requirements on the platform you use before organizing a group.
Updated presentation and platform-specific options
Xbox lists 4K assets, remastered textures, lighting, shadows and reflections, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and multiplayer up to 120 FPS on supported configurations in its Xbox product listing. These are capability claims, not a guarantee that every device, display, or setup will provide every feature.

The campaign still has appeal

The original game’s age is still apparent
Visual and performance updates do not erase the original’s design and feel. TechRadar says the 2006-era footprint remains visible and that multiplayer largely plays the same; Push Square also points to dated design. Those are critical judgments, not publisher-stated technical defects. If you want a substantially redesigned campaign or a new entry in the series, this remaster may not deliver that kind of change. PlayStation lists 15 accessibility features on its product page, but its subtitles cover the main story and main characters only. Windows Central describes options including changing certain actions from button mashing to holding a button, while TechRadar characterizes the overall suite as basic. If a specific accessibility feature is essential, verify that exact option in the current platform details and game settings before buying. If you already played the original or Ultimate Edition recently, the central question is whether access on your preferred platform, cross-play, and the refreshed presentation justify returning.
