Choose Gears of War: E-Day if you want a third-person cover shooter with a campaign, cooperative play and competitive modes on Xbox or PC. Choose Marvel’s Wolverine if you want a single-player PS5 action adventure built around claw combat, stealth and Logan’s search for his past. They are not close substitutes: platform, combat style and multiplayer support are the clearest differences.
As of October 4, 2026, Wolverine is available worldwide on PS5. E-Day’s Premium Edition early access began October 1, but its general launch is October 6, 2026.

How the gameplay differs
E-Day is built around cover and firearms
The Coalition describes E-Day as “built from scratch to feel like Gears but play like new.” Its gameplay overview focuses on movement, cover, weapons and enemies, and says the cover system has been rebuilt with more types, heights and actions. Wolverine centers on melee, stealth and senses
Sony describes Logan’s combat as fast and visceral, combining claw attacks with stealth and his heightened senses. The announced experience is single-player, rather than a co-op campaign or competitive multiplayer game. Sony also lists DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, fast SSD loading and 3D audio; these are announced PS5 features, not independent performance measurements. Two very different story setups
E-Day shows the start of the Locust war
E-Day is a prequel set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde erupts from beneath Sera and humanity faces the beginning of the invasion. Wolverine gives Logan an original story
Sony presents Wolverine as an original interactive story rather than an adaptation of one named comic arc. Logan is looking for answers about his past, with the story also emphasizing his humanity, resilience and determination. Confirmed locations include the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo and Madripoor; confirmed characters include Jean Grey, Sabretooth and Bolivar Trask. Gears of War: E-Day
E-Day is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. Xbox says the game is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch, and its product page lists Xbox Play Anywhere support for console/PC progression and achievements. Which game should you play?
- Pick E-Day if you have an Xbox Series X|S or gaming PC and want cover shooting, squad combat, co-op or multiplayer modes.
- Pick Wolverine if you have a PS5 and prefer a solo action adventure with close-range combat, stealth and a story about Logan.
- Let platform decide if you own only one of the relevant systems: E-Day is on Xbox and PC, while Wolverine is PS5-exclusive.
- Check access before buying if subscription access matters: Xbox lists E-Day with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, while Wolverine is listed in PS5 editions.
The official descriptions support a comparison of premise, announced gameplay, modes and platforms, but not a quality ranking. They do not establish comparative campaign length, review consensus or measured performance; there is no evidence here for calling one the better game overall.
