Gears 5 follows Kait Diaz
Gears 5 moves the story forward and puts Kait at the center. Its campaign follows her investigation into her connection to the enemy and the danger facing Sera. Choose E-Day for the early Marcus-and-Dom era; choose Gears 5 for Kait’s later chapter.
How do gameplay and combat compare?
E-Day changes movement and cover while keeping the series’ core
The Coalition says E-Day was built from scratch while retaining cover-based combat. Its developers describe a rebuilt cover system, with additional cover types, heights, and actions, and movement that emphasizes momentum, readable transitions, and more movement options. Sprinting, evading, and sliding have distinct roles. These are developer-described design intentions and mechanics, not evidence that E-Day plays objectively better than Gears 5.

Xbox’s overview highlights the Gears 5 campaign, refreshed multiplayer, Horde, and Escape. It does not provide a like-for-like mechanics comparison sufficient to establish how movement, difficulty, or combat feel differs from E-Day. Those judgments are best treated as player preference rather than settled facts.

What PvE modes does each game offer?
E-Day: Horde Siege
Horde Siege is a 12-player PvE mode organized into three squads, with missions across a shared battlefield. It gives E-Day a larger cooperative PvE format than a conventional small squad. E-Day also lists four-player co-op Combat Training. Details are in the official Horde Siege announcement.
Gears 5: Horde and Escape
Gears 5 offers Horde and Escape alongside its campaign and multiplayer. The cited official overview identifies those modes but does not present a directly comparable player-count specification for them.

When and where can you play them?
At the Xbox listing’s status on October 3, 2026, E-Day was scheduled for October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store and Steam. The listing said it would be included at launch in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Because the listed release date is only three days after this status point, check the live store page for current availability and regional details.

- Deciding on combat feel? E-Day’s developers describe meaningful changes to cover and movement, but the available official material does not establish a controlled, direct comparison proving one game’s combat is better.
