The right setup depends on your CPU and GPU, resolution, game build, drivers, upscaler, and whether frame generation is enabled. Start with a preset, measure your own system, and adjust one setting at a time.
What to know before changing settings
The PC version offers configurable display modes, uncapped frame rates on capable hardware, ultrawide support, DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, optional frame generation, Variable Rate Shading, and an in-game benchmark. Feature availability does not mean every option works on every GPU; check what the game exposes on your system. Steam’s PC listing describes the available features and requirements.

Steam lists 115 GB of storage and requires an SSD. That is an installation requirement, not evidence that replacing an already suitable SSD will raise FPS. The live Steam listing is the best place to verify current PC requirements before deciding whether an upgrade is needed.
The Xbox product page describes 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS across Campaign and Multiplayer. That is an Xbox platform description, not a performance guarantee for PC. Xbox’s product page should not be used to predict a PC’s frame rate.
#1 Best Overall
- Gears of War's story plays out like a Hollywood blockbuster
- Unreal Engine 3 technology brings out the smallest details in the largest of battles
- To survive you must suppress your enemy, take cover, and use weapons and teammates to outlast the Locust Horde
- Gears of War for Windows features original content and all-new achievements to unlock
- LIVE supports online matchmaking for Gold members
Set a target, then benchmark your PC
- Check the live requirements and installation. Compare your hardware with the current Steam requirements and make sure the game is installed on an SSD. The official beta FAQ also advised updating graphics drivers and using an SSD, but that advice was for the beta; use the final requirements for your launch-version upgrade decisions. The beta FAQ is not a substitute for current specifications.
- Choose a realistic resolution and frame-rate target. Use the resolution and refresh rate of your display as a starting point, balancing image quality against smoothness. “Maximum FPS” can mean different things depending on whether you value a sharper image, a higher average frame rate, steadier low frame rates, or responsive input.
- Begin with a built-in preset. Run the in-game benchmark and record the result as a baseline. Avoid changing several options at once: otherwise, you will not know which change helped or hurt.
- Adjust one variable at a time. After a change, run the benchmark again under the same conditions. Compare average and low frame rates or frame-time consistency, then check image sharpness, visual artifacts, and input responsiveness.
- Verify in actual play. The benchmark is useful for repeatable comparisons, but it is not an exact replacement for gameplay. Tom’s Hardware found it a reasonable approximation that differed somewhat from tested scenes. Check a representative area in Campaign or Multiplayer before settling on a change. Tom’s Hardware’s benchmark analysis explains that distinction.
Choose an upscaler or frame generation only if the trade-off works for you
DLSS and FSR
If testing suggests the GPU is the limit, compare native rendering with DLSS or FSR at image-quality modes available on your system. Upscaling can change the balance between performance and image quality, but Steam does not prescribe a universally best mode. Judge the result at your chosen resolution by looking for softness or artifacts as well as checking frame rate and responsiveness.
Frame generation
Frame generation is optional and hardware-dependent. It can increase displayed frame output on supported hardware, but generated frames are not the same as faster base rendering and do not guarantee more responsive input. Compare how the game feels as well as the displayed FPS, and keep it off if the latency or image trade-off is unacceptable. Steam confirms optional frame generation and multi-frame generation support on compatible hardware; it does not establish a universal recommendation.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Variable Rate Shading
Variable Rate Shading is among the PC features listed by Steam. Its presence alone does not establish the best setting for a particular GPU or image-quality preference. Test it on your system and retain it only if the performance and visual result suit your target.
Use Low Core Mode only to troubleshoot a severe CPU constraint
Low Core Mode is not a general FPS boost. Tom’s Hardware reported lower performance with it enabled across its pool of 25 tested CPUs. The exception was a specially constrained two-core test, where it helped address a severe core-count limit and asset-streaming issue. That result is specific to the test setup, so treat Low Core Mode as a troubleshooting option for unusually constrained systems—not a default optimization. See the CPU testing details.

- Listen up, soldier. The world is in ruin. The Locust Horde has risen. It’s Human vs Horde, and here’s your mission: Pick a side, build a powerful deck, and win the war. The fate of the world is in your hands!
- Experience the gritty gunplay of the video game in this official two-player card game. Take command of the COG forces or the Locust horde and seize control of the battlefield, one chapter at a time.
- Strategise your way through each chapter, bolstering your forces with classic characters like Marcus Fenix, General Raam, August “Cole Train” Cole, Dominic Santiago, and Damon Baird.
- Every battle counts. Whatever happens in each chapter will change what comes next, so you’d better be ready to dominate. The deck you build and decisions you make will change the way you play each campaign, making this a game you can reload time and time again.
- Whether you're a hardened vet or a grass-green rookie, get ready to take cover and lay down suppressive fire. Your enemies are trying to take the line, soldier. You’d better shove back hard.
How much can settings change FPS?
Individual test results show why a single recommended FPS figure is not transferable between PCs. Tom’s Guide reported 50 FPS at 4K High without the DLSS upscaling and frame-generation boosts it described, then 115 FPS after enabling them on a test PC with a Ryzen 7 9700X, GeForce RTX 5070, and 32 GB of RAM. This is one reviewer’s result on one configuration, not a prediction for other hardware. Tom’s Guide’s settings report gives the test context.
Likewise, no universal setting-by-setting performance ranking establishes that one preset, or disabling a particular visual feature, is always optimal. A reviewer’s High-settings result on an RTX 5070 is a useful example of one setup, not a recipe for every PC.

- Spec Ops: The Line is the next big shooter from 2K Games, the publisher responsible for award-winning franchises such as Bio Shock and Borderlands.
- The Line is a provocative, cinematic third-person military shooter that challenges players' own morality by putting them in the middle of unspeakable depravity
- Spec Ops: The Line's emotional narrative unfolds within the destroyed opulence of Dubai.
Check the current PC specifications before upgrading
The official final PC specifications announcement says its specifications image was updated September 28, 2026. Compare that information with the live Steam requirements, since requirements can change. Neither a platform-level 4K/60 description nor a result from another reviewer’s PC establishes what your machine will deliver. The official PC specifications announcement provides the published specs context.
