That is the highest Steam concurrency peak recorded for a Gears game, surpassing the earlier beta peak for E-Day itself. It is a Steam-only, time-stamped figure—not a count of everyone playing across Xbox, PC, Game Pass or cloud gaming.
How many players were on Gears of War: E-Day on Steam?
SteamDB recorded 20,374 concurrent players on 2 October 2026, the game’s all-time Steam peak as of that date. Concurrent players are people playing at the same time; the figure does not represent copies sold, total unique players, or the number playing over a day or week. SteamDB describes itself as independent of Valve and Steam.

The record arrived during early access, which began worldwide on 1 October 2026 at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC). The Coalition’s Mike Crump, studio head, marked the start by writing, “Today is a moment we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.” Xbox Wire announced the access timing and launch details on 1 October.

Yes. Its early-access peak was higher than the previous Gears-series Steam records cited in GamesRadar+’s comparison. Those figures also describe concurrent Steam players, but they come from different games and access phases:

The comparison establishes a Steam record, not a franchise-wide audience record across platforms. Each number is a simultaneous-player peak on Steam, so it should not be compared directly with Game Pass engagement, Xbox player totals or cloud sessions.
When does Gears of War: E-Day fully release?
The worldwide launch is scheduled for 6 October 2026 at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC), according to the Coalition’s 1 October Xbox Wire announcement. Early access started five days earlier, on 1 October, and was available to Premium Edition players and Game Pass subscribers who had the Premium Upgrade.

Can you play E-Day on Game Pass or GeForce NOW?
The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam. Xbox Wire also lists cloud gaming through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. These platforms broaden access, but their players are not included in SteamDB’s 20,374 concurrent-player peak.

What else is associated with the E-Day launch?
The official Xbox Wire post also points to The Art and Making of Gears of War: E-Day from Insight Editions, a companion book covering developer interviews and the game’s art, story, sound and design. Named launch accessories include the Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller and the 8BitDo E-Day Retro 87 Keyboard and Retro R8 Mouse, which Xbox Wire says are targeted for 30 October.
