In Gears of War: E-Day, Act 1, Chapter 4, “Back in the Fold” is complete when you escort Mayor Shaw to City Hall and defeat the Brumak. The route passes through a street battle, the market, Landa Medical, a parking-lot fight with Emergence Holes, and Echo Park. There are four collectibles along the way; the key is to check the clinic reception before leaving and search the approach to Echo Park for the final tags.
Chapter route at a glance
The chapter begins at a refuge and follows the escort toward City Hall. Collect supplies before moving out, then clear each encounter before advancing with Mayor Shaw. Interacting with City Hall’s entrance triggers the Brumak fight; defeating it ends both the chapter and Act 1.

- Leave the starting refuge and search near the overturned burning car.
- Open the fence gate, clear the street fight, and move down toward the market.
- Fight through the market, then take the right-hand footpath after exiting to find the propaganda poster.
- Clear the area outside Landa Medical and follow Shin through the clinic. Search reception before exiting.
- Close the Emergence Holes in the parking-lot encounter with grenades, then clear remaining Locust.
- Search near the fallen Gear before entering Echo Park. Help the Gears, descend by the broken ramp and bus, and clear the road and City Hall approach.
- Interact with City Hall’s entrance to start the Brumak encounter.
Where to find all four collectibles
Collectibles are placed along the chapter route, so check each location before moving on. The tags landmark is described differently by the guides; use the broader pre-Echo Park location rather than relying on an exact curb or vehicle.

How to handle the Emergence Holes
When glowing Emergence Holes open during the parking-lot battle, throw grenades into them to close them and stop additional Locust from emerging. Deal with the remaining enemies after addressing the holes; leaving them active can add pressure while you fight.

How to beat the Brumak
The Brumak fight begins when you interact with City Hall’s entrance. The following tactics are reported by walkthrough guides, not based on first-hand gameplay.
- Keep moving. Use cover but do not stay in one position. Reposition to avoid attacks and create openings to fire.
- Dodge its close-range chain attack. When the Brumak closes the distance, evade rather than trying to hold your ground.
- Use the Gut Puncher if available. Sportskeeda identifies this grenade launcher as useful during the final approach and boss fight; keep ammunition available and pick up supplies while repositioning.
- Control reinforcements. Additional Emergence Holes and crawlers appear during the encounter. Throw grenades into holes while maintaining distance from the Brumak so the added enemies do not overwhelm you.
Defeating the Brumak triggers the concluding cutscene and completes the chapter.
