Gears of War: E-Day has a required Day 1 update notice. If the game gives you an error when launching, close it completely and check for an update. The notice says build number 4879665 at the bottom-left of the main menu means your game needs updating.
How to check for the E-Day update
- Close the game entirely. Do not leave it suspended or running in the background.
- Check for an update through your platform’s game library or update system, then install any available update.
- Check the main menu. If the bottom-left corner shows build number 4879665, the notice says the game needs an update.
The notice was posted by Gears Community (@Community_Gears), identified by a profile mirror as the official Gears community and support account. Its wording is direct: “We recently published a required Day 1 patch for Gears of War: E-Day. If you’re hitting an error trying to launch, please close the game entirely and check for an update. If you see “4879665” in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen at the main menu, you need to update your game.” This is an account notice, not a detailed Xbox Wire patch announcement. Source

What the announcement does—and doesn’t—say
The account calls the update required and connects its instructions to launch errors. It does not publish the download size, a full list of changes, or platform-specific release notes. That means the notice confirms an update is needed in the stated circumstance, but does not establish what fixes or gameplay changes it contains.
