Gears of War: E-Day supports solo play, two-player local split-screen on console, and online campaign co-op for up to four players. Whether co-op feels “100x more fun” is personal, not a measured result—but the game does give you practical ways to bring friends into the campaign.
What co-op options does E-Day have?
Xbox lists three ways to play the campaign: alone, with one other person in console split-screen, or online with up to four players. The official product page describes these formats and notes that split-screen is console-only: Xbox’s Gears of War: E-Day page.

The official specifications establish player counts and setup limits, not that one mode is more enjoyable for everyone. If you want to play on the same console, the key constraint is the two-player limit; for a larger group, use online co-op.

Yes. The campaign supports two-player local split-screen on console. Xbox lists split-screen as console-only, so do not assume this local option is available on PC.

How many players can play E-Day co-op online?
Up to four players can play the campaign online, according to Xbox’s product page. Xbox also says online campaign co-op requires a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately. Check the subscription terms for your platform and region before starting.
When does E-Day launch, and where can you play it?
As of October 3, 2026, early access has begun: Xbox Wire says it started worldwide on October 1. The same post gives the worldwide launch as October 6, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC. It lists Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam, and says cloud gaming is available through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. Do multiplayer features change the campaign co-op limits?
No. Xbox’s multiplayer overview describes Combat Training as supporting four-player co-op, but that is a multiplayer feature and should not be mistaken for an additional campaign mode. The campaign’s stated online limit remains up to four players. The overview also says nearly every customization item can be earned through play, including through challenges, achievements, medals, matches, and Coins; those are multiplayer progression details, not campaign co-op requirements. Is the Collector’s Edition or special hardware needed for co-op?
No. The Collector’s Edition is a separate physical bundle, not a co-op requirement. The official Xbox Game Studios Shop page lists a Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago statue, replica COG tags, a lithograph, an in-game photo, a SteelBook, and game entitlement. It displayed the edition as out of stock when checked; stock and price are volatile, so confirm them on the official Collector’s Edition page.

These are optional products, not prerequisites for playing together; check regional compatibility and current availability before buying. The same launch post identifies The Art and Making of Gears of War: E-Day from Insight Editions as a companion book about the game’s art, story, sound, and design. It is optional further reading, not a gameplay guide or co-op requirement.
