For Horde Siege, the strongest pick depends on the mission and what your squad needs: Assault is a flexible choice for holding objectives, Breacher suits close-range aggression, Marksman rewards precision and sightlines, and Medic provides healing and revives. This is a role-based guide to the four launch classes—not a ranking based on win rates or controlled performance tests.
How to read this tier list
The Coalition describes classes as complementary and says there is “no ‘right’ way to set up a squad.” Its official overview does not publish class win rates, pick rates, or controlled damage comparisons, so an S-to-D ranking would imply evidence that is not available. The recommendations below instead rank each class by how well its documented role fits a particular need.

All four classes are for Horde Siege, the cooperative PvE mode. The launch roster is Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic; The Coalition said more classes would arrive in seasonal updates. Class mechanics and the roster may change with updates, so check current in-game descriptions after a balance patch. The Coalition’s multiplayer overview
Class tiers by situation
| Tier | Best fit | Class | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| S for the situation | Objective defense and flexible midrange combat | Assault | Sonic Disruptor stuns incoming waves, particularly while defending an objective, and Assault gains a damage boost while in cover. |
| S for the situation | Close-range pressure and high-risk pushes | Breacher | Its loadout focuses on close-range damage; Adrenaline Injector restores health and reduces damage, with class bonuses for status-effect resistance and melee damage. |
| S for the situation | Longer sightlines, precision, and target marking | Marksman | Precision damage and improved critical-hit damage pair with a Pulse Drone that tags Locust units for the player and squad. |
| S for the situation | Recovery, healing, and keeping a multi-squad effort moving | Medic | Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears, including downed soldiers from other squads, and Medic has faster health regeneration. |
These are conditional recommendations, not a claim that the classes perform equally or that every team should bring one of each. The Coalition explicitly allows mixed squads or even four Breachers; choose around the mission and the team’s needs.
#1 Best Overall
- Listen up, soldier. The world is in ruin. The Locust Horde has risen. It’s Human vs Horde, and here’s your mission: Pick a side, build a powerful deck, and win the war. The fate of the world is in your hands!
- Experience the gritty gunplay of the video game in this official two-player card game. Take command of the COG forces or the Locust horde and seize control of the battlefield, one chapter at a time.
- Strategise your way through each chapter, bolstering your forces with classic characters like Marcus Fenix, General Raam, August “Cole Train” Cole, Dominic Santiago, and Damon Baird.
- Every battle counts. Whatever happens in each chapter will change what comes next, so you’d better be ready to dominate. The deck you build and decisions you make will change the way you play each campaign, making this a game you can reload time and time again.
- Whether you're a hardened vet or a grass-green rookie, get ready to take cover and lay down suppressive fire. Your enemies are trying to take the line, soldier. You’d better shove back hard.
What each class offers
Assault: flexible defense
Choose Assault if you want a flexible midrange role and expect to hold ground. The Sonic Disruptor can stun incoming waves, with particular value when defending an objective, while the cover-based damage bonus supports fighting from a protected position. It is a sensible default when you do not yet know whether the mission will call for specialized support or a close-range push.
Breacher: frontline pressure
Choose Breacher when you intend to close distance and take on high-risk areas. Its close-range-focused loadout is backed by an Adrenaline Injector that refills health and reduces damage. Status-effect resistance and melee-damage bonuses reinforce that frontline role; they do not establish that Breacher is universally tougher or higher-damage than the other classes.

- DYNAMIC GAMEPLAY: Experience a unique card-driven AI and evolving story that alters based on your choices, ensuring a different gameplay experience with each session.

- MULTIPLE ENDINGS: A branching narrative with a variety of endings based on your decisions, enhancing replay value and player engagement.
Marksman: precision and information
Choose Marksman when sightlines let you engage at range or when your squad benefits from target information. The Pulse Drone tags Locust units for you and your squad, and the class gains improved critical-hit damage. The official overview does not give damage totals, so the case for Marksman is its stated precision role and tagging utility—not a quantified damage advantage.

Medic: recovery and support
Choose Medic when healing and revives are likely to matter. Its Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears, including downed soldiers from other squads, while faster health regeneration supports the class’s midrange specialist role. That cross-squad reach is relevant in a mode built around several squads sharing a larger map, but it does not prove that a Medic is mandatory in every composition.

Choose by mission, team, and progression
Blitz: one or two objectives, about 15–20 minutes
Blitz usually has one or two objectives and lasts about 15–20 minutes. Assault is a practical fit if the plan centers on defending an objective; Breacher suits a team that needs to push into close combat. Pick Marksman when the encounter offers useful longer sightlines, or Medic if keeping teammates up is the pressing need.
Siege: multiple objectives, about 20–40 minutes
Siege runs around 20–40 minutes and can include multiple objectives. The longer, varied mission can reward adapting to the squad’s gaps: use Assault for cover-based fighting and defense, Marksman for precision and tagging, Breacher for close-range pressure, or Medic for recovery. There is no documented universal winner for this playlist.

- FLEXIBLE VR MISSIONS: Choose from 6 free-to-play VR Missions for a quick, intense gaming experience. All gear earned is unlocked for future missions.
- UNIQUE BOSS FIGHTS: Each boss requires different strategies to defeat, offering a diverse and challenging gameplay experience.

- SAVE THE WORLD: Assume the role of legendary characters to infiltrate enemy bases and sabotage prototype weapon systems, preventing world-ending threats.
Horde: ten waves, about 50–60 minutes
Horde holds a position for ten waves and can last about 50–60 minutes. If the squad is focused on holding ground, Assault’s stated objective-defense utility is a natural fit. Medic may suit a group prioritizing recovery over a longer run; Breacher and Marksman remain reasonable choices when the team’s preferred combat style or needs point that way.

These mission durations and descriptions are approximate, and the mode’s difficulty scales with class level; harder missions yield increased rewards. That makes current progression relevant to your choice: consider the class you have developed as well as the mission and squad, rather than treating a tier placement as fixed across difficulties.

What the evidence does—and does not—say
The official class overview documents starting loadouts, combat bonuses, unlock progression, and Tactical Gear, but it does not provide cooldown lengths, ability ranges, damage totals, or measured class outcomes. It also does not identify a best class by playlist. Treat “best” as a match between the documented role and the job your squad needs, not as a hidden numerical ranking.
The launch overview was published July 30, 2026, and the game launched worldwide October 6, 2026, according to Xbox Wire’s launch notice. Seasonal updates may add classes, and balance updates could alter these recommendations. For the current roster and mechanics, consult The Coalition’s official multiplayer overview.
