Gaza residents interviewed by Al Jazeera described jobs, security and recovery as urgent priorities ahead of Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for November 28, 2026. Those accounts offer a view of individual concerns, not a representative poll showing what most Gaza voters rank first.
What Gaza residents interviewed by Al Jazeera said they want
Ahmad Mohsen: work and security
Ahmad Mohsen, a 24-year-old Gaza resident, told Al Jazeera that his first priority was a stable job with decent pay so he could support himself and his family, followed by security. He also raised unemployment, housing, education and healthcare as issues candidates should address. These are his stated priorities, not a measured ranking among Gaza voters.

“A candidate should put themselves in the people’s place and speak with the people’s voice, not someone else’s voice. They should speak for us, the young people who have been wronged for 20 years through wars and destruction. There needs to be an end to this,” Mohsen said.

Ghassan Marwan: reconstruction and calm
Ghassan Marwan, 53, recalled voting in 2006 and described losing both his home and his factory during the war. He said he hoped for reconstruction, calm and security.
#1 Best Overall
“Sometimes I feel that talking about elections is almost a joke, because there are no clear conditions for holding them,” Marwan said.
Recovery as a political demand
Gaza-based political analyst and writer Iyad al-Qarra described a desire for leadership focused on recovery. His comment, like the residents’ accounts, is not a survey result: the reporting does not establish how many voters share any one priority.
Rank #2
“There is a widespread desire for leadership that puts Gaza’s recovery at the top of its priorities, given the heavy price the Strip has paid,” al-Qarra said.

When and where the legislative election is scheduled
The Palestinian Central Elections Commission (CEC) lists November 28, 2026, as polling day for legislative elections across the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. The CEC says a presidential decree calling the election was issued on July 9, 2026. Its official 2026 Legislative Elections page lists the timetable and territorial scope.
Rank #3
Al Jazeera describes the planned vote as the first Palestinian legislative election since 2006. It is a national legislative election, distinct from local elections held in 2026; the two processes should not be conflated.
What is known about Gaza’s voter pool and preparations
Al Jazeera reported that the CEC estimates about 1.24 million people in Gaza will be eligible to vote. That is an eligibility estimate, not a prediction of turnout. The Commission has also prepared to produce election materials locally if supplies are restricted, according to Al Jazeera.
The report describes severe practical obstacles, including destruction and mass displacement, that could complicate preparations and voting. The official timetable states the plan; it does not establish that conditions on the ground will allow the election to proceed as scheduled.
Why the vote matters—and what the evidence does not show
A September 24, 2026 report by the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process says transparent and inclusive elections across the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza and East Jerusalem, are essential to renewing Palestinian institutions. It also reports that more than half of the eligible electorate has never voted in a national election. The report is available from the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
Best Value
Neither the interviews nor the analyst’s observation quantify how common particular priorities are. They support a careful account of what those people said, but not a conclusion that jobs or security are the top concern of most Gaza voters. The CEC’s estimate concerns eligibility, not opinion or expected participation.
The election schedule and operational preparations may change. The CEC’s published timetable is the relevant official source for updates; the available reporting does not settle whether Gaza’s conditions will permit polling as planned.
