As of October 4, 2026, it has not taken place, so its 2026 sessions cannot yet be reported as completed highlights. The program points to practical priorities for IT infrastructure and operations (I&O) leaders: connect technology work to business outcomes, develop skills and operating models for new capabilities, and keep governance and resilience aligned with change.
What the 2026 conference agenda signals for I&O leadership
Gartner’s event overview frames effective I&O leadership around aligning infrastructure and operations with business strategy and clearing obstacles to digital initiatives. That emphasis also appears in the scheduled program, which includes I&O metrics and business value alongside leadership and organizational change. For an executive, the useful question is not simply whether a technology initiative works, but what business outcome it enables and how I&O will show its contribution.

The agenda page lists 234 sessions in its current snapshot, grouped into tracks that include Evolving Leadership, Enabling Intelligent Operations, Augmenting Talent & Skills, Embedding Security, and Optimizing Costs & Value. The count and program may change before the event. Gartner’s overview also lists 3,000+ infrastructure and operations leaders, 60+ Gartner analysts, and 150+ solution providers; these are event-page figures, not verified final participation numbers for a future conference.
Turn the themes into leadership priorities
Translate technology work into business value
Make the intended business outcome explicit before approving an infrastructure or operations initiative. Choose measures that show how I&O contributes—for example, whether a service becomes more reliable or a digital initiative can be delivered more effectively. Gartner’s 2026 agenda explicitly includes I&O metrics and business value, reinforcing the need to connect operational measures with business priorities rather than report technical activity in isolation.

Build skills and adapt the operating model
AI, automation, and platform engineering can change who does work, how teams coordinate, and which decisions need to be made centrally. Treat workforce development as part of the initiative: identify roles and skills that must evolve, provide training, and define how teams will work together. Gartner’s agenda gives skills, training, and workforce development a distinct place, alongside leadership and organizational and cultural change.
Scale AI as an organizational change
The 2026 program schedules a keynote on scaling agentic AI into autonomous IT operations. Its description addresses the changes people, teams, and operating models must absorb as well as governance and technology decisions. That is a signal of the issues leaders should examine—not evidence that the promised outcomes have already been achieved. Before expanding AI use, clarify accountability, decision rights, oversight, and how people will respond when automated systems act or fail.

Keep governance and resilience in step with capability
New capabilities should not outpace the controls that make them safe and dependable. Gartner describes governance as supporting agile, resilient infrastructure for digital initiatives; the agenda includes security, compliance, reliability, resilience, and recovery. Assess these together: a change that speeds delivery but weakens recovery or obscures accountability may not improve the organization’s overall ability to deliver.

Compare the expected value of an initiative with the people, budget, and operational capacity needed to deliver and sustain it. This is particularly important where teams are small or already committed to reliability work. Gartner’s program includes cost and value as well as operations and infrastructure, making capacity a leadership decision—not just an implementation detail.

A practical framework for evaluating initiatives
The following questions synthesize the topics Gartner lists in its conference program; they are an editorial framework, not a Gartner checklist.
- Business value: Which explicit business outcome does the initiative support, and how will I&O measure its contribution?
- People and skills: Which roles, skills, or workforce plans must change to support AI, automation, or platform engineering?
- Operating model and governance: Which decision rights, processes, and controls will make the change sustainable?
- Resilience and risk: What are the implications for reliability, recovery, security, and compliance?
- Cost and execution capacity: Can the organization fund, staff, and operate the work without undermining other priorities?
How to plan an agenda around your priorities
Gartner’s conference overview says Conference Navigator can filter sessions and help build a personal agenda. The program offers several useful comparison axes—leadership, talent, operations, cloud, infrastructure, security, and cost or value—and lists topics such as I&O maturity, business value, AI, skills, and resilience.

- Start with the leadership decision you need to make, such as changing an operating model, improving resilience, or demonstrating the value of I&O.
- Use Conference Navigator to filter for the relevant topics, then compare sessions across the leadership, skills, operations, security, and cost/value tracks.
- Build a balanced agenda: pair sessions on emerging capabilities with those on governance, workforce change, and operational risk.
- Recheck the official program close to the event, because session titles, speakers, and program details can change.
What past conference material can—and cannot—tell you
Gartner’s surfaced conference page has mixed year labels: it displays 2025 event dates, labels a section “All 2024 Conference Sessions,” and presents takeaways from sessions described as Leadership Vision for 2025. Treat historical takeaways as belonging to the specifically named session and year rather than as a clean summary of one conference edition. They can provide context, but they should not be presented as 2026 session outcomes.

This conference is a must-attend!” It is one attendee’s view, not a guarantee that every participant will find the same value.
