These are recommendations based on manufacturer specifications, not independent head-to-head testing.

Battery figures come from separate manufacturer methods, so they are not equivalent test results. Garmin explains that actual runtime varies with settings and use in its battery information. Apple’s published estimate includes a particular mix of time checks, notifications, app use, a workout with music, and LTE and iPhone Bluetooth connection time. Neither figure guarantees how long an individual watch will last between charges.

Choose the Venu X1 if you want Garmin’s fitness focus and a large display
Garmin specifies a 2-inch AMOLED screen, with a listed resolution of 448 × 486. That diagonal and resolution cannot be directly compared with Apple’s different case and display dimensions as a measure of readability; think about the overall watch size and how much screen you prefer.

The Venu X1 combines health tracking and sports features with Garmin Connect. It is the more natural choice if that is the fitness platform you already use or if Garmin’s feature set is your priority. Compare the specific metrics and services you rely on rather than assuming one watch measures them more accurately: the cited product specifications do not establish a head-to-head accuracy result.

Its main paper advantage is charging interval: Garmin rates it for up to 8 days in smartwatch mode, or up to 2 days with the always-on display enabled. For GPS-only GNSS use, Garmin lists up to 16 hours. Those estimates refer to different operating conditions; frequent GPS use and enabled features can change actual runtime.
Choose Apple Watch Ultra 2 for Apple integration, cellular hardware or diving features
Ultra 2 runs watchOS and includes 4G LTE/UMTS hardware as well as L1 + L5 dual-frequency GPS. Cellular-capable hardware does not mean cellular service is included: check whether your carrier and region support the watch and whether a plan is required. The specifications establish that it has dual-frequency GPS, not that it is more accurate than the Venu X1 in a real-world comparison.

Apple specifies water resistance to 100 metres and recreational scuba diving to 40 metres. A compatible third-party dive app is required for dive-computer functionality. These manufacturer-stated limits are specific to Ultra 2; do not treat water-resistance ratings as interchangeable or infer that every underwater use is supported.

Apple rates battery life at up to 36 hours in normal use and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. Those are Apple estimates under its described usage pattern, not a promise for every mix of apps, connectivity and workouts. Apple’s technical specifications also list ECG, sleep tracking and workout metrics, with health-feature availability caveats.

How to decide
- Start with your phone and services. Consider whether you want Garmin Connect or watchOS, and verify that your phone and region support the features you intend to use.
- Set your charging expectation. Garmin’s stated smartwatch-mode estimate is longer, while the manufacturers’ testing conditions differ. Consider how often you use GPS, the always-on display, cellular connectivity and workouts.
- Prioritize the features you will actually use. The Venu X1 emphasizes Garmin’s fitness feature set and a 2-inch display. Ultra 2 adds cellular-capable hardware, dual-frequency GPS and specified recreational-diving support.
- Check local details before buying. Prices, stock, carrier support and health-feature availability vary by market. The cited Garmin listing is Canadian and Apple specification page is for Ireland; confirm the configuration and features offered where you live.
What the specifications cannot tell you
The published figures do not establish a winner for GPS accuracy, heart-rate accuracy or overall performance. Nor do they establish current local street prices or availability. Treat the recommendations here as a feature-based comparison, not a laboratory test or hands-on verdict.
