Choose the Garmin Venu 3 if you want the larger case, larger display and Garmin’s longer smartwatch-mode battery estimate. Choose the Venu 3S if a smaller watch is a better match for your wrist or you prefer a lighter, more compact design. The two models share the same basic Venu 3 generation, but their physical dimensions, display sizes, band widths and battery estimates differ. The right choice is therefore a fit-and-usage decision, not a universal winner.
Garmin lists the Venu 3 at up to 14 days in smartwatch mode and the Venu 3S at up to 10 days. With the always-on display enabled, both are rated for up to 5 days. Those are manufacturer estimates; your result depends on which tracking, notification, GPS and sensor features are active.

Venu 3 and Venu 3S at a glance
The most useful distinction is size. Venu 3 uses a 45 mm case and Venu 3S uses a 41 mm case. The larger model also has the higher-capacity display and longer stated smartwatch-mode endurance. The smaller model reduces the physical footprint and weight, but gives up some battery capacity in Garmin’s estimates.

In practical terms, Venu 3 adds 4 mm to the case diameter, 7 g to the listed weight and 0.2 inch to the display diagonal. Its normal smartwatch estimate is four days longer. Venu 3S, however, covers a lower starting wrist circumference and is the less conspicuous option.
How to choose the case size
Choose Venu 3 for a larger wrist presence
Venu 3 measures 45 mm square and is intended for wrists in Garmin’s 135–200 mm range. Its 1.4-inch display provides more physical area for reading watch information and interacting with on-screen elements. The included silicone band brings the listed weight to 47 g.
This is the better fit when your wrist is comfortably within that range and you prefer a watch that occupies more of the wrist. The larger case also aligns with the longer smartwatch-mode estimate, so the people who want the biggest display are not forced to accept the shorter headline endurance.
Choose Venu 3S for a smaller wrist or a compact feel
Venu 3S measures 41 mm square and Garmin lists it for 110–175 mm wrists. It weighs 40 g with the included silicone band. The 1.2-inch display is smaller, but the case is also less visually dominant and may feel more natural on a narrow wrist or for someone who prefers a lower-profile watch.
Use the 3S range as a starting point rather than a guarantee of comfort. Wrist shape, band tension and personal style all affect how a watch feels. If your circumference falls in the overlap between the two ranges, you can reasonably choose by display preference, weight and battery priority instead of fit alone.
Why the case measurement matters more than the name
“3S” identifies the smaller version; it does not mean a different generation. Both watches are 12 mm thick, so the primary physical change is the case diameter and the components that fit inside it. The smaller diameter reduces the watch’s footprint, while the larger diameter leaves more room for the display and battery capacity reflected in Garmin’s estimates.
The identical 12 mm thickness is useful if you are comparing how far either watch may stand above your wrist or sleeve. The decision is mainly about surface area and mass, not choosing a thinner model. A 41 mm watch can still feel too large on a very small wrist if the band is overtightened, while a 45 mm watch may feel balanced on a broad wrist.
Display size and everyday readability
The Venu 3’s display is 1.4 inches in diameter with 454 × 454 pixels. Venu 3S uses a 1.2-inch, 390 × 390-pixel display. A larger screen can make glanceable information and touch targets easier to see, particularly when you are moving or when the watch face contains several data fields. A smaller screen keeps the watch compact but leaves less physical room for the same information.

Neither specification tells you exactly how bright or readable the watch will feel in every setting. Viewing conditions, the selected watch face and whether the display is always on all affect perceived readability and battery consumption. The practical choice is straightforward: select Venu 3 when screen area is a priority; select Venu 3S when minimizing the watch’s size matters more.
The pixel counts also differ in proportion to the panel sizes: Venu 3 has 454 pixels across the display and Venu 3S has 390. That does not make one universally sharper for every use, but it explains why the models are not simply the same screen placed in different shells. More display area is particularly useful when a watch face shows multiple fields at once; the 3S favors a cleaner, more compact presentation.
Battery life: compare the mode you actually use
Garmin’s headline estimates differ in ordinary smartwatch operation: Venu 3 is rated for up to 14 days, while Venu 3S is rated for up to 10 days. With always-on display enabled, the published estimate is up to 5 days for both. That means the larger model’s advantage is clearest when you use the normal display behavior rather than always-on mode.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For navigation and workouts, the relevant figures are shorter and depend on the GNSS mode. GPS-only operation is rated at up to 26 hours on Venu 3 and 21 hours on Venu 3S. All-systems GNSS lowers the estimates to up to 20 and 15 hours respectively. Adding music while using all-systems GNSS lowers them again to up to 11 hours for Venu 3 and 8 hours for Venu 3S.
Battery-saver smartwatch mode extends the stated estimates to up to 26 days on Venu 3 and up to 20 days on Venu 3S. That mode is a different operating target from normal smartwatch use, so it should not be used to compare the watches for a typical notification-and-tracking routine.
What “up to” means here
Every number in Garmin’s table is an estimate, not a guaranteed runtime or an independently measured test result. Garmin explains that battery life changes with enabled features, including activity tracking, wrist-based heart rate, phone notifications, GPS and connected sensors. Two people can therefore obtain different runtimes from the same model, and one person can see different results on different days.
Think of the figures as a mode-to-mode comparison rather than a promise that a watch will last exactly 14, 10 or 5 days. A user who receives many notifications, records frequent activities or keeps sensors connected may see less time than a user with fewer active features. The estimates are still useful because the same conditions generally favor the larger Venu 3 across the listed modes.
Always-on display changes the decision
If you require the display to remain visible more often, Garmin’s estimate is up to 5 days for both sizes. In that use case, the Venu 3 does not have a longer published always-on figure than the Venu 3S. Pick the larger watch for its screen and fit rather than assuming its normal-mode advantage will remain the same.

- ✅【360° FREE ROTATION】 - With an adjustable swivel ball joint, you can rotate your smartphone or device at your own will, providing the best viewing angle. Quickly pick and place with one hand, free your hands and make calls and GPS navigation more convenient
Always-on use also changes how often charging interrupts your routine compared with the headline smartwatch estimate. If a five-day cycle is acceptable, either size can work; if you want the longest interval with the display’s normal behavior, the four-day difference in Garmin’s estimates makes Venu 3 the clearer choice.
Band compatibility is size-specific
The quick-release band widths are not interchangeable between the models. Venu 3 uses 22 mm bands, while Venu 3S uses 18 mm bands. When buying a replacement or spare, match the width to the watch model; a band that fits one width is not the correct replacement for the other.
This is an easy specification to overlook because both watches share the Venu 3 name and similar controls. Check the width before ordering, especially if you are choosing a different material or keeping separate bands for exercise and everyday wear. A listing that says only “Venu 3” is not enough; confirm whether it specifies 22 mm or 18 mm.

Decision guide by priority
Prioritize maximum stated smartwatch endurance
Select Venu 3. Its Garmin-rated normal smartwatch estimate is longer than the 3S estimate, and its battery-saver and GNSS estimates are also higher. These are still usage-dependent estimates, but the difference is consistent across the listed modes.
Prioritize the smallest case
Select Venu 3S. Its 41 mm case, 40 g listed weight and 110–175 mm wrist range make it the compact option. You accept the smaller display and shorter normal-mode estimate in exchange for that footprint.
Prioritize screen area
Select Venu 3. The 1.4-inch, 454 × 454-pixel display is physically larger than the 3S panel. This is the model to choose when glanceability and a larger touch surface outweigh the appeal of a smaller watch.
Use always-on display as a deciding feature
Because Garmin rates both watches for up to 5 days with always-on display, decide first whether the larger case and screen suit you. The normal smartwatch-mode battery gap should not be the sole reason to buy Venu 3 if you will keep always-on display enabled.

Need GPS sessions with music
Compare the all-systems GNSS-with-music figures rather than the headline smartwatch numbers. Venu 3 is rated for up to 11 hours and Venu 3S for up to 8 hours in that combined mode. If your activities regularly approach those durations, the larger model offers more stated margin before charging.

Need GPS without music
For GPS-only sessions, the rated difference is 5 hours: up to 26 hours for Venu 3 versus 21 hours for Venu 3S. In all-systems GNSS, the difference is also 5 hours, at 20 versus 15. Those are the useful numbers for runners, hikers or cyclists who do not use music and want to plan charging around long activities.
A practical selection process
- Measure your wrist. Measure the circumference where you will wear the watch and compare it with Garmin’s listed ranges: 135–200 mm for Venu 3 or 110–175 mm for Venu 3S.
- Decide how much screen you want. Choose between the 1.4-inch Venu 3 display and the 1.2-inch Venu 3S display before considering battery figures.
- Identify your operating mode. Normal smartwatch use, always-on display, battery-saver mode, GPS-only, all-systems GNSS and GNSS with music have separate estimates.
- Account for enabled features. Notifications, activity tracking, wrist heart-rate monitoring, GPS and connected sensors all influence actual runtime according to Garmin.
- Check band width. Order 22 mm quick-release bands for Venu 3 and 18 mm bands for Venu 3S.
- Verify regional availability. Garmin’s reviewed product pages are not from the same market: the Venu 3 listing is US-based and the Venu 3S listing is UK-based. Confirm the configuration and availability for your country before purchasing.
If you are between sizes, make the decision in this order: eliminate any case that falls outside your comfortable wrist range, choose whether the larger display is materially useful, then compare the battery mode you use most. This avoids letting a headline day count override a poor physical fit.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Examples of the trade-off
Example: a larger wrist and infrequent charging
A wearer whose circumference fits the Venu 3 range and who wants fewer charging interruptions has two reasons to favor Venu 3: the larger display and the longer published estimates in normal smartwatch, battery-saver and GNSS modes. The choice is still subject to the person’s enabled features.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsExample: a narrow wrist and a discreet watch
A wearer closer to the lower end of Garmin’s listed ranges may prefer Venu 3S because its 41 mm case and lower listed weight reduce the watch’s visual and physical presence. The 3S is the sensible choice when compactness is more important than maximum stated runtime.
Example: always-on display every day
If always-on display is non-negotiable, Garmin’s estimate is up to 5 days for either model. In that scenario, case comfort, display size and band availability should decide; the normal-mode difference is less relevant.
Example: long GPS workouts with music
For activities that combine all-systems GNSS and music, use the mode-specific estimates: up to 11 hours for Venu 3 versus up to 8 hours for Venu 3S. Those figures provide a more relevant comparison than the multi-day smartwatch claims.
What is known, and what is not
Garmin publishes the physical specifications and battery estimates for both models in its product information and owner’s manual. The figures establish the manufacturer’s intended comparison, but they do not establish a universal real-world runtime. No independent comparative battery test is represented here, so Garmin’s estimates should not be presented as laboratory results.
Prices, stock and software-dependent battery behavior can change. The official pages and manual are the appropriate places to verify current availability and specifications for your region. The Venu 3 page reviewed is Garmin’s US listing and the Venu 3S page is Garmin’s UK listing, so regional configurations may not be identical.

Launch context
Garmin introduced the Venu 3 series in 2023 as a two-size smartwatch family. In the launch announcement, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales Dan Bartel said, “No matter what your health and fitness journey looks like, Venu 3 is ready to support you every step of the way.” That is Garmin’s product statement, not an independent performance assessment; the current model-specific specifications above are the basis for choosing between the sizes.

Garmin rates Venu 3 for up to 14 days in smartwatch mode and Venu 3S for up to 10 days, a four-day difference in the headline estimate. In battery-saver mode the estimates are 26 and 20 days. Actual life varies with enabled features.
Do both watches have the same always-on battery estimate?
Yes. Garmin lists up to 5 days with always-on display for both Venu 3 and Venu 3S. If always-on use is your priority, choose based on case comfort and display size rather than expecting a battery advantage from Venu 3.
Which Venu model has the larger screen?
Venu 3 has the larger 1.4-inch display with 454 × 454 pixels. Venu 3S has a 1.2-inch display with 390 × 390 pixels. The larger panel provides more physical room for glanceable information and touch targets.
Can I use the same replacement band on both models?
No. Venu 3 takes 22 mm quick-release bands, while Venu 3S takes 18 mm bands. Match the band width to the exact watch model before ordering.
Which model is better for long GPS workouts?
Venu 3 has the longer published estimates in every listed GNSS comparison: up to 26 versus 21 hours in GPS-only mode, 20 versus 15 hours in all-systems GNSS, and 11 versus 8 hours in all-systems GNSS with music. These remain manufacturer estimates.
Are Garmin’s battery numbers guaranteed?
No. They are “up to” estimates. Garmin says activity tracking, wrist-based heart rate, phone notifications, GPS and connected sensors can affect battery life, so individual results will differ.
Are Venu 3 and Venu 3S the same thickness?
Yes. Garmin lists both cases at 12 mm thick. The major physical differences are the 45 mm versus 41 mm diameter, display size, weight and compatible band width.
The Bottom Line
Buy the Venu 3 for the 45 mm case, 1.4-inch display and longer Garmin-rated battery estimates. Buy the Venu 3S for the 41 mm case, lighter 40 g design and smaller-wrist fit. If you use always-on display, both are rated for up to 5 days, so comfort and screen size should make the final decision.
