The Garmin HRM 200 is a solid entry-level chest strap if you want heart-rate and HRV data, ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, and a replaceable battery. Cyclingnews reviewer Andy Turner praised its accuracy and comfort in use, but the strap is not rechargeable and cheaper alternatives are emerging. Whether it is the best choice depends on fit, compatibility, the features you need, and the price where you live.
What does the Garmin HRM 200 do?
Garmin announced the HRM 200 on January 6, 2025. It sends heart-rate and heart-rate variability (HRV) data to compatible Garmin watches, Edge cycling computers, fitness equipment, the Tacx Training app, and other apps. Garmin lists running, indoor and outdoor cycling, strength training, and other activities as intended uses. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not results from a comparative accuracy test. Will HRM 200 work with your watch or bike computer?
It supports ANT+ and Bluetooth, but the connection type and device support matter. Garmin’s April 2026 manual describes secure Bluetooth for compatible Garmin devices; some receiving devices may need software updates. It describes ANT+ and some Bluetooth connections as open, and recommends open Bluetooth when pairing with third-party watches, tablets, or fitness equipment. Check the receiving device’s specifications and confirm which connection it supports before buying. Garmin HRM 200 manual

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cyclingnews lists three concurrent Bluetooth Low Energy connections and unlimited ANT+ connections. That can be useful if you want to send data to more than one compatible device at once, but it does not remove the need to check compatibility with each receiver. Cyclingnews review

How long does the HRM 200 battery last?
It uses a user-replaceable, non-rechargeable CR2032 3 V coin-cell battery. Garmin’s April 2026 manual estimates “up to 1 yr. at 1 hr./day,” based on laboratory testing. The manual cautions that actual life varies with enabled features and environmental factors, so treat a year as an estimate under those usage assumptions, not a guarantee. Garmin HRM 200 manual
Cyclingnews praised the battery life but listed the lack of rechargeability as a drawback. Choose the HRM 200 if replacing a coin cell suits you; look elsewhere if charging is a must-have. Cyclingnews review

HRM 200 vs. HRM 600 and HRM-Fit: what changes?
Garmin’s April 2026 comparison positions the HRM 200 as a heart-rate essentials strap with HRV, two sizes, and up to a year of battery life. The alternatives serve different needs rather than making the HRM 200 a poor choice by default. Garmin heart-rate monitor comparison
| Model | Garmin’s stated distinction | What that means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| HRM 200 | Heart-rate and HRV data; two sizes; up to one year of battery life | A straightforward chest-strap option if those core functions meet your needs. |
| HRM-Fit | Attaches to a sports bra and offers selected running-dynamics features | Consider it if the sports-bra attachment or those running features fit your use. |
| HRM 600 | Rechargeable battery, workout recording, and additional running and swimming functions with compatible devices | Consider it if you need those functions; not every advanced feature works with every compatible watch. |
For other chest straps—including Polar H9 and H10, Wahoo Trackr, Garmin HRM Dual, and 4iiii Viiiiva, which appear in Cyclingnews’s 2026 comparison—compare the details that affect your setup rather than relying on a single “best” label. Cyclingnews heart-rate monitor comparison
