Short answer: the GameSir GK100 is a one-handed mechanical gaming keypad, not a conventional full-size keyboard. It concentrates gaming controls for the left hand, leaves the right hand on a mouse, and adds programmable profiles, macros, lighting controls and a sliding-rail palm rest. A normal mechanical gaming keyboard provides a complete typing layout for work and play. A newer Hall-effect keyboard goes further by sensing key travel and, on supported models, offering adjustable actuation, dual-action inputs or Rapid Trigger.
The right choice depends on the job: buy a GK100-style keypad for a dedicated, compact gaming control surface; choose a conventional mechanical board when you need one keyboard for typing and gaming; choose Hall-effect hardware when adjustable actuation or Rapid Trigger is the reason you are upgrading.

What the GameSir GK100 actually is
GameSir’s GK100 manual calls it “the authentic one-handed mechanical gaming keypad for Windows PC and GameSir X1.” That description matters. The device is designed to supplement a mouse, not to replace every key on a regular keyboard.
In practical terms, the GK100 puts frequently used game controls under one hand. Your left hand operates the keypad while your right hand remains on the mouse. This can reduce the distance between movement, ability and utility keys during games that require many rapid inputs. It can also free you from reaching across a full keyboard for controls that are normally far from the home position.

The GK100 has two default modes and configurable functions. Its G-Core software can be used for key configuration, macros and lighting effects. The hardware documentation also shows a configurable key and a palm rest that slides on a rail, allowing the support position to be adjusted along the keypad.
Do not treat the GK100 label as shorthand for “a small version of every mechanical keyboard.” Its one-handed layout is the defining feature. You still need another input device for ordinary typing, passwords, chat, documents and any key that the keypad does not expose.
GameSir GK100 versus a conventional mechanical keyboard
A conventional mechanical gaming keyboard normally presents a complete typing layout in a full-size, tenkeyless or compact arrangement. It may include a number row, navigation cluster, function row and, on full-size models, a number pad. The GK100 instead prioritizes a concentrated gaming area.

“Mechanical keyboard” describes the switch construction, not a single layout or feature set. A compact mechanical board can be physically small while still being a complete keyboard. A one-handed keypad can use mechanical switches while omitting the keys needed for ordinary typing. Compare both the switch technology and the physical coverage before deciding.
Layout and everyday use
Why a one-handed keypad can help in games
The GK100 is useful when you want a fixed, compact control zone on the left side of your desk. The other hand stays on the mouse, so aiming, camera movement and pointing do not require repeatedly lifting the hand to reach a distant key. This arrangement is particularly attractive when the game uses many commands but you want to keep the mouse hand dedicated to movement or targeting.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Its two default modes and remappable functions let you assign controls to the way you play rather than accepting a fixed arrangement. A profile for one game can use different bindings from a profile for another. Macros can group a sequence that the software and game permit, while lighting can provide a visual indication of the active setup.
What the keypad cannot do by itself
A one-handed layout is not a substitute for a complete keyboard during normal computer use. Writing an email, entering a long search, using punctuation or navigating a document may require a second keyboard or frequent mouse-based input. If you want one device for documents, chat, spreadsheets and games, a standard mechanical keyboard is the safer choice.
Even if a listing describes a large key count, verify the actual physical layout before buying. An older specification reproduction lists approximately 104 keys for the GK100, but that figure belongs to model documentation and should not be treated as a current, universal specification. The defining product description remains “one-handed mechanical gaming keypad.” Check photographs, the seller’s layout diagram and the condition of the particular unit.
Mechanical switches, Hall-effect sensing and response
What “mechanical” means for the GK100
The GK100 is documented as mechanical. A mechanical switch uses a physical mechanism beneath each key; the key’s feel, force and travel depend on that switch and its construction. The manual does not describe the GK100 as an analog keyboard and does not document adjustable actuation or Rapid Trigger.
An older specification reproduction lists approximately 4.0 mm of key travel and a key force of 60±10 g. Those numbers should be read as model documentation for an older product, not as a promise that every unit, replacement switch or current listing will match them. They also do not by themselves tell you how quickly a game will respond: firmware, debounce behavior, USB handling, the game engine and your own movement all affect the result.

What Hall-effect keyboards add
Hall-effect keyboards measure a magnet’s position as a key moves instead of relying only on a conventional on/off switch event. That measurement can expose the key’s travel to software. Current Hall-effect products described by SteelSeries and Logitech offer features such as adjustable actuation points, multi-point actuation and Rapid Trigger on supported models. These functions can let a key activate higher or lower in its travel, perform different actions at different depths, or reset as soon as the key moves upward rather than waiting for a traditional release point.
Recommended Free Tools
Those capabilities are model-specific. “Mechanical” and “Hall-effect” are not interchangeable labels, and not every Hall-effect keyboard supports every software feature. Check the exact product’s firmware and configuration application for adjustable actuation, dual-action behavior, analog output and Rapid Trigger before assuming they are present.
Which technology responds better?
There is no universal winner based on the word “mechanical” alone. A GK100 mechanical switch can provide predictable digital key presses and a familiar physical feel. A Hall-effect keyboard can provide more control over where a press activates and how quickly it resets, which may be valuable for repeated strafing or other games that benefit from rapid direction changes. That advantage exists only when the specific keyboard, software and game support the feature and when you configure it appropriately.
For ordinary typing, the feel and layout may matter more than the sensing method. For competitive play, adjustable actuation and Rapid Trigger are reasons to examine a Hall-effect model; they are not features documented for the GK100.

- Connect the keypad to the computer using its USB connection and allow the operating system to recognize it.
- Open the compatible G-Core software and select the GK100 device.
- Choose one of the available profiles or modes so you can keep separate bindings for different uses.
- Assign the desired functions to configurable keys, then create macros only where the game and its rules allow them.
- Set the lighting effect you want to associate with the profile, apply the changes and test every important key in a safe practice area.
- Switch profiles before launching a game and confirm that movement, abilities, chat and menu controls still behave as expected.
The manual establishes these categories of control, but it does not establish a universal set of current menu names or operating-system support for every modern release of the software. If the application does not detect an older GK100, check the seller’s documentation, cable, USB port and software compatibility before assuming the keypad has failed.
How this compares with other mechanical boards
Mechanical gaming keyboards vary widely. Basic models may offer only remapping and simple lighting. More advanced boards can provide per-key profiles, dual-action assignments or switch-level actuation settings. Those features are not inherent in all mechanical keyboards, so compare the software functions line by line rather than buying on the switch label alone.
Typing, posture and desk ergonomics
Benefits of the left-hand arrangement
- The keypad keeps the gaming hand in a compact area while the other hand remains on the mouse.
- A sliding-rail palm rest lets you position support under the hand instead of accepting one fixed location.
- A smaller gaming surface can leave more desk space for broad mouse movements.
Trade-offs for mixed use
- You need a second keyboard or another input method for complete text entry.
- Switching between a keypad and a separate typing keyboard adds hardware and desk-management overhead.
- Hand position and key reach are personal; a compact control zone is not automatically more comfortable for every player.
A conventional mechanical keyboard is the more flexible ergonomic baseline when the same desk must support writing, browsing and gaming. Its complete layout avoids moving to another device for routine tasks. A keypad is the more focused choice when gaming is the priority and you deliberately want the mouse hand free.

The GK100 documentation describes a wired USB device aimed at Windows PC and GameSir X1. That is narrower and older wording than the compatibility claims commonly attached to current keyboards. Before purchasing, confirm the connector, the operating-system support listed by the seller, the layout, included accessories and whether the unit is new, used or refurbished.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not assume that a current Windows update, a modern USB adapter or a newer version of G-Core will provide the same behavior as the original setup. An older product may still work as a basic USB keypad while losing access to configuration features if its software is no longer maintained. Ask the seller for a clear photo of the label, cable and key layout when the listing is ambiguous.

Price and availability: what can and cannot be established
There is no authoritative current price, sales-volume statistic or durability figure established for the GK100. Because it is an older wired model, online listings may represent remaining stock, used hardware or refurbished units rather than a continuously manufactured product. Treat any displayed price as a seller-specific offer on the date you view it, not as a standard market price.
Before paying, verify:
- the exact GK100 model and physical layout;
- that the USB cable and palm-rest hardware are included and undamaged;
- that the seller states the unit’s condition and return terms;
- that G-Core can be obtained for your operating system if remapping is important;
- that the listing does not confuse the keypad with a different GameSir accessory.
Which keyboard should you choose?
Choose the GameSir GK100 when
- You want a dedicated one-handed gaming keypad rather than a complete keyboard.
- Your preferred setup keeps the right hand on a mouse and puts game controls under the left hand.
- You value remapping, profiles, macros and lighting through G-Core.
- The sliding-rail palm rest suits your hand position.
- You have confirmed the older wired USB device and its software work with your computer.
Choose a conventional mechanical gaming keyboard when
- You need one device for documents, chat, browsing and games.
- You want a full-size, TKL or compact typing layout with the key coverage that entails.
- You prefer to select among switch feels, layouts and connection options.
- You do not want to maintain a separate keypad and typing keyboard.
Choose a Hall-effect gaming keyboard when
- Adjustable actuation is a central reason for upgrading.
- You want Rapid Trigger or multi-point actuation and the exact model documents those functions.
- You are prepared to configure the manufacturer’s software and tune the settings for each game.
- You understand that Hall-effect features vary by model and are not guaranteed by the category name alone.
A practical buying checklist
- Define the layout you need. If you regularly type, start with a complete keyboard. If gaming controls are the only priority, a one-handed keypad may fit better.
- Identify the sensing technology. Confirm whether the product is conventional mechanical or Hall-effect, and list the exact actuation features rather than relying on marketing shorthand.
- Check software functions. Look for profile storage, remapping, macros, lighting, per-key actuation and dual-action support as separate items.
- Confirm connection and operating system. For the GK100, verify wired USB and current Windows/G-Core compatibility with the seller.
- Inspect ergonomics. Consider palm support, hand size, desk space and whether the keypad leaves your typing position inconvenient.
- Validate the listing. Reconcile the model name, key layout, accessories, condition, return policy and the seller’s current price before ordering.
Common misconceptions
“The GK100 is just a small full-size keyboard.”
No. Its documented identity is a one-handed gaming keypad. Its purpose is concentrated game control, not complete text entry.
“Every mechanical keyboard has adjustable actuation.”
No. Adjustable actuation, analog-style input and Rapid Trigger are associated with particular Hall-effect implementations and software. They are not universal mechanical-keyboard features.
“A larger key-count number proves broader capability.”
No. The older specification reproduction’s approximately 104-key figure should be checked against the physical layout and model documentation. A number on a listing cannot replace a layout diagram.
“Wired means automatically newer or more compatible.”
No. Wired USB can be dependable, but the GK100’s Windows PC and GameSir X1 documentation reflects an older product target. Current support still needs to be confirmed.
Bottom line
The GameSir GK100 makes sense as a left-hand mechanical gaming keypad with configurable controls, macros, lighting and an adjustable sliding palm rest. It is not the all-purpose keyboard that a conventional mechanical board is. If complete typing coverage is your priority, choose a full keyboard. If you specifically want a compact gaming control surface, the GK100’s form factor is the deciding advantage. If adjustable actuation or Rapid Trigger is the goal, compare current Hall-effect models and verify those features in the exact software and firmware before buying.
