There is no single best combat system: the right pick depends on whether you want build freedom, precise timing, expressive combos, or demanding boss fights. These four games offer distinct strengths, so choose by the kind of decisions and execution you enjoy rather than by a universal ranking.
What makes combat feel great?
Combat is more than attack animations. Responsiveness and feel matter, but so do enemy and encounter design, the timing a game asks of you, the ways you can express yourself, and the flexibility to adjust the challenge. In action RPGs, it is also useful to separate real-time fighting from the progression systems and builds around it. Bandai Namco’s overview of action games discusses these qualities at its action-game overview.

Which game fits your preferred combat?
| Game | Combat feel and execution | Builds and approach | Best fit if you want |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elden Ring | Real-time action with freedom to approach challenges directly, stealthily, or with allies. | A range of weapons, magical abilities, and skills; the open world lets you choose when and in what order to tackle challenges. | Build experimentation and options when a fight is difficult. |
| Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | Attacks and timed deflections build enemy posture; breaking it creates a limited deathblow opportunity. | Combat arts and skill trees add options, but the central loop rewards learning when to respond and press an attack. | Assertive sword fighting built around timing and reading opponents. |
| Devil May Cry 5 | Fast, stylish action built around weapon switching, juggling enemies, and sustaining combos under pressure. | Lower difficulty options and automatic combos are available; higher settings demand more precise execution. | Expressive combo play with room to improve execution. |
| Lies of P | Precision combat and major boss encounters, using dodges and parries. | Build and equipment choices let you adapt to difficult fights. | Demanding encounters where you want gear choices to matter. |
Choose Elden Ring for freedom and experimentation
The appeal is the number of ways to meet a challenge: weapons, magical abilities, skills, stealth, direct combat, and allies. Its open world also lets you choose when to take on obstacles rather than follow one fixed order. That makes it a strong fit if you like changing your approach or developing a build around your preferred tools. See the official Elden Ring page for its described options and platform editions.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose Sekiro for timing and swordplay
Sekiro’s defining exchange is attack, deflect, and respond. Deflecting can damage an enemy’s posture and open a counter-slash; breaking posture gives a limited chance to land a deathblow. Combat arts and skill trees add variety, while the core asks you to learn an assertive timing-and-response rhythm. Activision explains these mechanics in its Sekiro mechanics guide.
Choose Devil May Cry 5 for combo expression
Devil May Cry 5 centers on pace, style, and improvisation: switch weapons, keep enemies in the air, and maintain combos as encounters put you under pressure. You do not have to start at the most demanding setting; lower difficulty choices and automatic combos make the combat more accessible, while higher settings call for tighter execution. PlayStation outlines the combat and difficulty options in its Devil May Cry 5 guide.
