Neither reproduces Valor Mortis’s first-person viewpoint or its announced blend of swords, firearms, and magic.
Valor Mortis is a first-person action Soulslike from One More Level, set in a plague-corrupted alternate history of Napoleon’s army. It is scheduled to launch on October 13, 2026, so comparisons here are based on announced features and developer comments—not a verdict on the finished game. Steam’s official listing describes its premise and features, and the PlayStation listing gives the same scheduled date.

What kind of game is Valor Mortis?
One More Level describes Valor Mortis as a first-person action Soulslike. You play William, a soldier of Napoleon’s Grande Armée who returns from death in a world overtaken by a supernatural plague. Announced features include exploration, secrets, shortcuts, sidequests, and challenging boss fights. Its combat is planned to combine swords, firearms, and magic, with parries, dashes, and finishers.
That combination makes “similar” a matter of which part you want to match. Traditional Soulslike progression points toward Dark Souls III; demanding combat mastery points toward Sekiro. The first-person action and movement lineage point toward Ghostrunner, but it is a less direct Soulslike substitute.

Which games are most like Valor Mortis?
| Game | Why it is relevant | How it differs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dark Souls III | Closest match for the broader Soulslike structure: checkpoints, boss challenges, lost-currency recovery, and backtracking. | It is a third-person fantasy action RPG, not a first-person Napoleonic setting with firearms and magic. | Players seeking the familiar Soulslike loop. |
| Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | A strong comparison for studying enemy patterns and improving through difficult fights. | It has its own combat systems and setting; the comparison is about mastery and challenge, not a claim of shared mechanics. | Players who want precise, demanding combat. |
| Bloodborne | A dark, challenging action game named among the game director’s personal Soulslike favorites. | The available developer comments do not establish it as a close mechanical or setting match. | Players after another dark action adventure. |
| Ghostrunner | One More Level’s earlier first-person action game provides context for the studio’s platforming and finisher lineage. | It is not the closest match for Soulslike progression or structure. | Players most interested in first-person movement and execution. |
Why Dark Souls III is the closest format match
A developer community manager described Valor Mortis as much closer in format to Dark Souls than to Dishonored. The reported comparison focused on the Soulslike loop: recovering lost souls, reaching bonfire-like checkpoints, taking on bosses, and backtracking for secrets. That makes Dark Souls III a useful recommendation within the series, not a claim that the developer singled out that installment.
Choose it if you want the broad rhythm of exploring hostile areas, finding routes and checkpoints, and preparing for difficult bosses. Its third-person perspective and fantasy setting are important differences: it will not preview what it feels like to fight in Valor Mortis’s first-person, alternate-Napoleonic world. The developer comparison was reported by GamesRadar+.

Choose Sekiro for combat mastery, not a one-to-one match
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the better pick if your main interest is learning how enemies attack and overcoming hard encounters through practice. In a game director AMA, the director named Sekiro among their favorite Soulslikes and highlighted the appeal of studying enemy patterns and conquering difficult challenges.
This supports a comparison of player experience—challenge and mastery—not an assertion that Valor Mortis uses Sekiro’s combat systems. The announced Valor Mortis mix of swords, guns, and magic gives it a different combat identity.

Where Bloodborne, Ghostrunner, and Dishonored fit
Bloodborne: another dark, challenging option
The game director also named Bloodborne among personal Soulslike favorites. That makes it a reasonable secondary choice if you want dark atmosphere and demanding action, but the cited comments do not establish a close match to Valor Mortis’s mechanics or setting.
Ghostrunner: first-person lineage and movement
Ghostrunner is relevant because One More Level says platforming and finishers carry over from its earlier work. It offers context for the developer’s first-person action background, rather than the closest substitute for Valor Mortis’s Soulslike structure.

Dishonored: an influence, not a stealth recommendation
The developer has cited Dishonored as an influence while also clarifying that Valor Mortis is not really a stealth game and is closer to Dark Souls in format. Consider Dishonored only if you are curious about an influence; it is not the best choice for matching the announced gameplay loop.
What is confirmed—and what is still unknown
As of October 11, 2026, Valor Mortis had not yet launched. Its scheduled release is October 13, 2026, according to the official Steam listing and PlayStation listing. The comparisons above therefore describe announced design and reported developer comments, not a full-game review or firsthand comparison.
The developer said the demo went offline on September 8 and that its selected chapters had been recreated specifically for a Steam event. The studio said it was not straightforward to carry over later full-game optimization, balancing, and bug fixes to those versions. It also reported feedback on combat readability, boss difficulty and variety, performance, and the balance between platforming and combat. Demo impressions should not be treated as a reliable substitute for the launched game.
