What Phantom Blade Zero is promising
Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming dark wuxia action game from S-Game. Its world combines Chinese martial-arts imagery with fantasy and machine-like details, an art direction the studio’s founder and CEO Soulframe Liang calls “Kungfupunk.” You play Soul, an elite assassin framed for killing his organization’s patriarch. After a mystic healer saves his life, Soul has 66 days to discover who was responsible and expose the truth.
The game is planned as a semi-open experience rather than one uninterrupted open world. S-Game describes multiple handcrafted maps of reasonable size, which suggests a level-based journey with room to explore without requiring a single enormous map. The combat is intended to feel like sleek kung-fu cinema while drawing on fast hack-and-slash traditions such as Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
S-Game says every move is built with handcrafted animation. Liang put the design goal plainly: “Combat moves in Phantom Blade Zero have to be made with handcrafted animation, because motion capturing can’t do it justice.” An August 2026 official update announced more than 30 main weapons, 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges, upgrades, accessories, summons and difficulty options. Those are announced features, not independent measurements or hands-on findings.
At a glance: which alternative fits your taste?
| Game | Best match for | Combat emphasis | Setting and structure | Where it differs from Phantom Blade Zero |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | Players who want demanding sword duels | Reactive defense, precise timing and duel-focused pressure | Japanese-inspired world organized around interconnected areas | It is not a wuxia game and does not offer Phantom Blade Zero’s announced weapon breadth or combo-oriented presentation. |
| Devil May Cry 5 | Players who want stylish, expressive combos | Rapid attacks, launchers, cancels and creative style-building | Mission-based action with a supernatural modern-gothic tone | Its setting and structure are very different, and it is a stronger match for spectacle than for wuxia atmosphere. |
| Black Myth: Wukong | Players drawn to Chinese fantasy and action-RPG progression | Character abilities, weapon techniques and boss-focused action | Level-based journey inspired by Chinese myth, with progression systems and replayability | It is the broadest thematic neighbor, but not a mechanical twin; coverage describes Phantom Blade Zero as less Souls-like and more old-school action. |
The shortlist reflects different kinds of similarity. Sekiro is the combat-precision recommendation, Devil May Cry 5 is the combo-expression recommendation, and Black Myth: Wukong is the setting-and-progression recommendation. No existing game established in the available information reproduces all of Phantom Blade Zero’s intended ingredients at once.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — choose it for demanding sword duels
Why it is the closest combat comparison
If the trailers’ appeal is the feeling of reading an opponent, answering an attack immediately and winning through timing rather than simply having a larger damage number, start with Sekiro. Its sword fights are built around direct exchanges and reactive defense. That makes it the clearest way to test whether the precise, high-pressure side of Phantom Blade Zero is what you actually want.
Think of the match as one of rhythm, not presentation. Phantom Blade Zero is marketed with rapid cinematic movement and a broad arsenal; Sekiro concentrates its identity in the duel itself. The value of a successful defense comes from interrupting the opponent’s momentum and maintaining pressure. You are constantly deciding whether to answer, reposition or risk another exchange. That focus makes ordinary enemies feel like practice for the larger fights rather than disposable obstacles.

What it does not reproduce
Sekiro does not provide Phantom Blade Zero’s dark wuxia-and-machine aesthetic. Its world belongs to a different martial tradition and uses a more focused weapon identity. You should not buy it expecting more than 30 main weapons, 25 Phantom Edges, summons or the semi-open map structure announced for Phantom Blade Zero; those features belong to S-Game’s upcoming game.
It also is not the best fit if your priority is chaining elaborate attacks for visual style. Sekiro’s appeal is commitment and response: identifying an incoming move, selecting the correct defensive answer and staying close enough to control the encounter. That can feel stricter and less immediately flashy than the trailers for Phantom Blade Zero.
Pick Sekiro when…
- You want the recommendation most centered on sword-duel precision.
- You enjoy learning enemy timing and treating defense as an active part of offense.
- You would rather master a demanding combat language than collect a large number of weapons.
- You are comfortable with a game that asks for repeated practice before difficult encounters feel readable.
Pass on it when…
- Your main attraction is a wide weapon roster and frequent loadout changes.
- You want a Chinese wuxia setting rather than a different historical-fantasy tradition.
- You are looking primarily for free-form combo experimentation and spectacle.
Devil May Cry 5 — choose it for expressive combos and style
Why it belongs on the list
S-Game’s founder has specifically cited Devil May Cry as part of the fast hack-and-slash lineage informing Phantom Blade Zero. That makes Devil May Cry 5 the most direct recommendation for readers who saw the trailers and thought, “I want attacks to flow together, look dramatic and reward creativity.”
Its combat loop is about expression. You combine attacks, launch or reposition enemies, switch options quickly and keep encounters moving so your style remains high. The game gives you room to find your own preferred sequences instead of asking every fight to follow one defensive script. If your favorite Phantom Blade Zero moments are rapid strings of slashes, sudden movement and a sense of performance, this is the strongest existing alternative.

How its rhythm differs from Phantom Blade Zero
Devil May Cry 5 is a spectacle-first action game, while Phantom Blade Zero is being presented as a dark wuxia adventure with a specific assassin story and a semi-open collection of handcrafted maps. The comparison is about combat lineage, not setting or structure. Devil May Cry 5 does not recreate Soul’s 66-day quest, the Kungfupunk art direction or the announced mix of main weapons, Phantom Edges and summons.
Its emphasis also differs from Sekiro’s. You can approach an encounter as a creative exercise, looking for a stylish sequence that fits the moment, rather than centering every decision on a duel’s defensive timing. That makes it more forgiving of experimentation but less useful if what you want is a strict test of reactive sword defense.
Pick Devil May Cry 5 when…
- You want the fastest route to expressive, combo-led action.
- You enjoy experimenting with attack strings and movement instead of repeating one optimal pattern.
- You value visual flair and momentum as much as measured defense.
- You want a game directly connected to the hack-and-slash lineage S-Game names when describing Phantom Blade Zero’s combat ambitions.
Pass on it when…
- The Chinese martial-arts setting is more important to you than combat feel.
- You want a level structure and progression model closer to an action RPG.
- You are specifically looking for tense, defensive duels rather than a performance-oriented combat system.
Black Myth: Wukong — choose it for Chinese fantasy and action-RPG progression
Why it is the broadest thematic neighbor
Black Myth: Wukong is the best fit when the appeal of Phantom Blade Zero starts with its cultural and visual direction. It is rooted in Chinese fantasy and presents an action-RPG journey shaped by myth, abilities and progression. A GamesRadar+ preview identifies it as a close parallel in direction and stakes while distinguishing Phantom Blade Zero as less Souls-like and more old-school action built around levels and replayability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat makes Black Myth: Wukong useful for readers who want to remain in a Chinese-inspired fantasy world while waiting, even if the combat does not map one-to-one onto Phantom Blade Zero. Its progression layer gives you reasons to improve a character and revisit the game’s systems, whereas the Phantom Blade Zero material currently emphasizes a handcrafted, action-led experience with multiple maps, weapons, accessories and difficulty options.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Where the combat comparison stops
Black Myth: Wukong should not be presented as a combat twin. The available comparison describes Phantom Blade Zero as less Souls-like, so the games’ pacing and expectations are not identical. Wukong is a thematic and structural neighbor first: Chinese fantasy, action-RPG growth and a level-based journey. If your priority is the exact sensation of a fast assassin chaining attacks through opponents, Devil May Cry 5 is the more targeted choice. If your priority is reading sword attacks and answering with precise defense, Sekiro is the better test.
Pick Black Myth: Wukong when…
- You want Chinese fantasy and mythic atmosphere more than a specific combat system.
- You like action games that include character growth and progression decisions.
- You prefer a level-based adventure with replayability rather than a single uninterrupted open world.
- You want the alternative that feels closest in broad direction and stakes, while accepting that the mechanics differ.
Pass on it when…
- You are seeking the strictest possible sword-duel timing.
- You want the most open-ended combo experimentation and style scoring.
- You expect an exact preview of Phantom Blade Zero’s announced weapon and Phantom Edge systems.
Compare the four things that matter most
Combat rhythm
| Preference | Best choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Read attacks, defend at the right instant and win close duels | Sekiro | Its identity is built around tense, reactive sword exchanges. |
| Keep attacks flowing and build expressive sequences | Devil May Cry 5 | It is the clearest combo-and-style recommendation. |
| Combine action with character growth and fantasy abilities | Black Myth: Wukong | It provides the strongest action-RPG progression angle. |
| Mix fast action with a broad announced arsenal and semi-open handcrafted maps | Wait for Phantom Blade Zero | Those are S-Game’s announced goals, and no listed alternative combines them all. |
Input emphasis
Sekiro asks you to prioritize recognition and response. Devil May Cry 5 rewards sequencing, improvisation and movement. Black Myth: Wukong places more weight on abilities and progression within an action-RPG framework. Phantom Blade Zero’s final balance is not yet independently established; S-Game’s stated direction combines handcrafted animation, fast hack-and-slash movement and a large announced equipment pool.
Setting and tone
Black Myth: Wukong is the closest thematic neighbor because it also draws on Chinese fantasy. Phantom Blade Zero is more specifically dark wuxia, with a “Kungfupunk” blend of martial arts, fantasy and machine-like imagery. Sekiro offers a different historical-fantasy tradition, while Devil May Cry 5 uses a supernatural action setting rather than a wuxia world.
Progression and world structure
Phantom Blade Zero is described as semi-open, with several handcrafted maps rather than one continuous open world. The announced systems include upgrades, accessories, summons and difficulty options, alongside more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges. Black Myth: Wukong is the closest of these alternatives for an action-RPG progression mindset. Devil May Cry 5 is the natural choice for mission-focused action and combat mastery. Sekiro is the focused duel option, where learning the combat system matters more than assembling a large arsenal.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
A practical decision path
Use this order if you are choosing one game rather than buying all three:
- Ask what you remember from the trailers. If it was the moment-to-moment clash of blades, choose Sekiro. If it was a character flowing through a long attack string, choose Devil May Cry 5. If it was the Chinese fantasy atmosphere and adventure scale, choose Black Myth: Wukong.
- Decide how much defensive precision you want. Select Sekiro when timing and reactive defense sound exciting. Select Devil May Cry 5 when you want freedom to experiment. Select Black Myth: Wukong when abilities and progression are part of the appeal.
- Decide whether setting or mechanics come first. A Chinese-inspired world points toward Black Myth: Wukong; a combat-first choice points toward Sekiro or Devil May Cry 5. Phantom Blade Zero’s distinctive combination remains its own reason to wait.
- Set expectations about similarity. Treat each recommendation as a neighboring experience, not a substitute that reproduces every weapon, map, story and system announced for Phantom Blade Zero.
What you cannot get from these alternatives
No game in this shortlist is confirmed to combine all of Phantom Blade Zero’s announced elements: Soul’s assassin narrative, the 66-day mystery, dark wuxia fused with machine-like “Kungfupunk” design, semi-open handcrafted maps, more than 30 main weapons, 25 Phantom Edges, summons, accessories and selectable difficulty options. The alternatives are useful because they isolate the strongest reasons someone might be interested, not because they duplicate the whole package.
The available evidence also does not establish a performance, difficulty or quality ranking between these games. This is a preference guide based on publicly described design goals and editorial comparison, not a hands-on test of identical stages or weapons. Expect differences in pacing, input demands and progression even when the broad genre label looks similar.
