If you want fast, deliberate swordplay rather than a purely button-mashing action game, start with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for strict timing, Sifu for cinematic martial-arts pressure, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty for deflect-focused battles, and Nioh 2 for deep weapon and build experimentation. None is a confirmed mechanical twin of Phantom Blade Zero; each matches a different part of its appeal.
Phantom Blade Zero is still upcoming. Official PlayStation listings give October 29, 2026, while Steam displays October 28, apparently because of storefront time-zone presentation. S-GAME describes a single-player dark-wuxia action RPG with rapid combos, dodges, deflects, counters, weapon changes and a large arsenal. Use the guide below to decide which available game best fits the specific quality you are seeking.

What makes Phantom Blade Zero distinctive
The game follows Soul, a warrior framed for murdering his master. He has only sixty-six days left to live while he investigates a conspiracy and is hunted through the Wulin. That premise places a revenge mystery inside a dark wuxia world rather than a conventional medieval-fantasy setting.

S-GAME calls the visual and tonal blend “kungfupunk”: traditional Chinese martial-arts imagery sits alongside cold steel, mechanical prosthetics, industrial ruins and modern rock. The setting is therefore part of the appeal. A game can reproduce precise counters while feeling completely different if it lacks the wuxia influence or cinematic presentation.

Official descriptions center combat on a continuous flow of dodging, deflecting, countering and striking. The PlayStation Blog says players can unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. The official PlayStation US page and Steam listing instead say 30-plus main weapons and 20-plus Phantom Edges. Because the official counts differ, treat the reliable takeaway as a broad, unusually varied arsenal rather than a single exact total.
Weapons can be upgraded and paired with accessories, and summons are also described as combat options. S-GAME founder and CEO Soulframe Liang summarized the design goal this way: “We’ve kept some of our deeper gameplay systems under wraps until now, and today’s State of Play offers a closer look at how you can shape your combat setup and express your own style of play in our dark wuxia action game.”
The best alternatives by combat priority
| Game | Where it matches | What it does differently | Choose it if you want |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | Precise deflections, aggressive counterplay and a strong action-game focus. | Its identity is built around a much narrower core combat system rather than Phantom Blade Zero’s advertised broad arsenal. | The clearest timing test and a demanding, focused duel rhythm. |
| Sifu | Hand-to-hand martial-arts choreography, fast reactions and cinematic encounters. | It is structured around compact stages and repeated attempts, not a large weapon-driven action RPG. | Martial-arts spectacle and close-range precision. |
| Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty | Deflect-centered action, Chinese historical-fantasy presentation and rapid exchanges. | Its systems, progression and mission structure follow their own action-RPG model. | A Chinese-inspired setting with frequent timing-based defenses. |
| Nioh 2 | Fast weapon play, multiple move sets and extensive loadout experimentation. | It is denser and more build-driven, with more equipment management than the currently demonstrated Phantom Blade Zero identity. | Weapon variety and the ability to tune a character around a preferred style. |
| Devil May Cry 5 | High-speed combos, weapon switching and expressive animation. | It prioritizes stylish execution and score-chasing over wuxia investigation or Soulslike-style defense. | Maximum combo freedom and spectacle rather than measured parry timing. |
This table is a way to narrow your search, not a claim that any title is an exact substitute. No independent comparative test establishes a definitive closest match for Phantom Blade Zero.

Choose Sekiro when “precise” matters more to you than weapon quantity. Its fights reward reading an enemy, meeting attacks at the correct moment and maintaining pressure instead of waiting passively for safe openings. That makes it a natural recommendation for players who are attracted to Phantom Blade Zero’s advertised deflect-and-counter flow.

The trade-off is scope. Phantom Blade Zero is presented as an action RPG with more than 30 principal weapons, a separate Phantom Edge arsenal, upgrades, accessories and summons. Sekiro offers a more concentrated combat identity, so it should be viewed as a broad audience neighbor rather than proof of identical mechanics. It is best for someone who wants every duel to test timing and composure.
Sifu — the best martial-arts cinema alternative
Sifu is a strong fit if the part of Phantom Blade Zero that excites you is the choreography: rapid strings, close-range counters, environmental movement and the feeling of performing a martial-arts film rather than trading generic fantasy attacks.
Its compact stage structure changes the decision-making. You are repeatedly refining routes, enemy reads and execution instead of exploring a large conspiracy-driven action RPG. That makes it an excellent choice for short, intense sessions and a less direct match for players primarily interested in broad weapon collecting or a sprawling narrative.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty — Chinese-inspired combat with frequent deflects
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty belongs on the list when you want a Chinese-inspired world and a defense system that asks you to react actively. The emphasis on deflecting attacks gives battles a rhythm closer to a timing conversation than to simply rolling away from danger.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Its presentation and progression are not the same as Phantom Blade Zero’s dark “kungfupunk” mixture. Think of it as a setting-and-defense match, not a one-for-one replacement. It suits players who want to practice rapid defensive responses while remaining in a Chinese historical-fantasy atmosphere.
Nioh 2 — the choice for weapon and build experimentation
Nioh 2 is the practical recommendation for players most interested in Phantom Blade Zero’s arsenal claims. It gives weapon selection and character configuration a major role, so changing equipment can alter how you approach encounters rather than merely changing appearance.
That depth comes with a cost: more menus, loot and build decisions. If you want a clean, cinematic flow with minimal preparation, the extra management may feel like friction. If you enjoy testing combinations, upgrading gear and developing a specialized combat plan, it is one of the better available ways to explore that side of the appeal.

Do not choose it expecting the same challenge profile or story atmosphere. It is a better match for players who measure combat quality by combo freedom and performance than for those seeking a dark wuxia investigation.

If timing windows matter most
Start with Sekiro, then consider Wo Long if you want a Chinese-inspired setting and a different progression structure. Both let you evaluate whether active deflection is the central pleasure you are looking for.
If weapon variety matters most
Try Nioh 2. Phantom Blade Zero’s official pages disagree on the exact number of Phantom Edges, but all describe a large secondary arsenal in addition to more than 30 main weapons. A game with meaningful weapon and build changes will therefore be a closer test of that interest than a highly focused single-weapon combat design.

Choose Sifu for close-range choreography or Devil May Cry 5 for elaborate offensive strings. They differ in structure, but both put visual clarity and expressive execution ahead of equipment spreadsheets.

If you want a forgiving entry point
A GamesRadar hands-on preview of Phantom Blade Zero reported that its sampled normal difficulty was fairly forgiving, with reasonably long parry windows and enough resilience to survive a few hits. That was a limited pre-release session, not a final difficulty review. If you dislike severe punishment, check each game’s available difficulty options and recovery systems before buying; do not assume the “Soulslike” label predicts identical severity.
What is confirmed about Phantom Blade Zero before release
As of October 16, 2026, the game has not launched. The official global date shown by PlayStation is October 29, 2026. Steam shows October 28, which appears to be a storefront or time-zone display difference. S-GAME previously announced a move from September 9 to October 29 so the team could make further improvements and polish.
The evidenced platforms are PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam. PlayStation’s own page lists DualSense adaptive triggers and haptics, basic adjustable difficulty, pausing during offline play, manual saves, control and tutorial reminders, and subtitle options. Those are claims for the PS5 listing; they should not automatically be assumed to describe the PC version.
Because the full game is unreleased, final performance, launch-day availability, complete difficulty balance and review consensus are not established. The safest purchase decision is to choose an available alternative now according to your preferred combat axis, then reassess Phantom Blade Zero after independent full-game coverage exists.
A practical decision checklist
- Pick Sekiro if every attack should become a timing test and you prefer a focused combat language.
- Pick Sifu if martial-arts choreography and compact, replayable encounters are more important than a large RPG arsenal.
- Pick Wo Long if active deflection and a Chinese-inspired world are the strongest combination for you.
- Pick Nioh 2 if loadouts, weapon differences and build experimentation are the main attraction.
- Pick Devil May Cry 5 if speed, weapon switching and stylish combo expression matter more than defensive precision.
When Phantom Blade Zero arrives, compare it on five concrete questions: How strict are its timing windows? How costly is failure? Do weapon changes alter your move set and decisions? Is the world’s wuxia-kungfupunk identity central to play rather than decoration? Which platform features and difficulty controls are available in the edition you plan to use?
