If you want more of Travis Touchdown’s story, play No More Heroes III. For a stranger, self-aware spin on the series, try Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. If what you want is flamboyant, weapon-rich action rather than a similar story, Bayonetta is the strongest alternative.
What makes a game feel like No More Heroes?
No More Heroes follows Travis Touchdown as he tries to climb the United Assassins Association rankings. Its identity comes from more than its beam-katana fights: combat mixes with pro-wrestling moves, jobs, training, and motorbike rides around Santa Destroy. Marvelous Games describes the action as using “Travis Touchdown’s trusty beam katana and an arsenal of pro wrestling moves.”

That blend gives you a few different ways to look for a match: the same characters and series format, the series’ playful game-world detours, or stylish action with a very different story. The picks below are based on official game descriptions, not comparative gameplay testing.

| Game | Best match for | What carries over | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| No More Heroes III | More Travis and the main series | It returns to the main series after the spin-off and continues the Travis-led franchise. | It is a later entry, not a substitute for the original game’s opening story. |
| Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes | Self-aware oddness and unusual settings | Travis, series humor, and action built around confronting opponents. | Its Death Drive Mk II game-world structure is a spin-off detour rather than a straightforward mainline sequel. |
| Bayonetta | Expressive, weapon-rich action | Stylish action and an emphasis on combat spectacle. | It has a different fantasy tone and is not part of Travis’s story or the No More Heroes series. |
No More Heroes III: the direct continuation
Choose No More Heroes III if continuity is the priority. The series began on Wii in 2007, followed with No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle in 2010, and took a spin-off turn with Travis Strikes Again in 2019 before returning to the main series with No More Heroes III in 2021. The official series site lists the game for Switch in 2021, then PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC in 2022.
#1 Best Overall
- Earn money to enter ranked battles! To enter into each subsequent ranked battle, you’ll need to pay a pretty steep fee. Travis must take on various missions around town to make the money he needs to fight
- Use your skills to dominate opponents! Enjoy even more hardcore slash-‘em-up action than ever before as you use the Joy-Con’s intuitive controls to wield Travis Touchdown’s trusty Beam Katana along with a slew of pro wrestling techniques!
- Also, featured for the first time in the series, Travis can now use his Death Glove to activate a variety of skills, allowing for more strategic battles
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes: the experimental detour
Pick this one if you want the series to play with videogame worlds and its own conventions. Set several years after No More Heroes 2, it pulls Travis and Badman into the Death Drive Mk II, where they enter distinct game worlds and confront their respective heroes. Marvelous describes its approach as combining classic game action with quirky, original battles.
Its unusual structure is the reason to choose it—and also why it is not the closest match if you simply want another mainline entry.

Bayonetta: the action-first alternative
Choose Bayonetta if your favorite part of No More Heroes is the theatrical fighting, not Travis’s story. PlatinumGames describes it as a 3D action game with Bullet Arts that combine melee and ranged attacks, an arsenal of weapons, magical attacks, and stylish settings. That makes it a fit for expressive, varied action, though its fantasy tone and narrative are different.

How to choose between them
- Want the closest connection to Travis? Start with No More Heroes III.
- Want the series to get stranger and more self-referential? Try Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.
- Want stylish action without needing a similar story? Try Bayonetta.
- Want to explore the same developer more broadly? Grasshopper Manufacture’s catalog includes Killer Is Dead. Treat it as a separate discovery, not an automatic match: a shared developer credit alone does not establish that it plays or feels like No More Heroes.
