Games Like Jiaohun: Best Supernatural Horror Games With Stealth and Puzzles

Fear the Spotlight is the closest match for Jiaohun’s combination of a supernatural mystery, hiding from an entity and hands-on puzzles. Choose Still Wakes the Deep if first-person helplessness matters most, Amnesia: The Bunker if you want pursuit and resource management, or Home Sweet Home for an Asian supernatural setting built around stealth and item hunting.

Jiaohun is not available yet: 12AM BLACKOUT’s official Steam listing describes a planned 2027 release for PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5. The games below are released or established alternatives, but each matches a different part of Jiaohun’s promise.

What makes a game “like Jiaohun”?

JIAOHUN is described by its developer and publisher, 12AM BLACKOUT, as a “cinematic first-person psychological horror game.” Its story is set in Fairy Town in Baishoi County, China, on the eve of the new millennium. You investigate the town, uncover its stories and confront an evil presence. The official Steam listing gives PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5 as planned platforms and currently lists 2027 as the intended release year. Because the game is unreleased, its final puzzle systems, enemy behavior and launch date may change.

That description creates a specific wish list rather than a generic search for scary games:

  • Enter the stadium and take part of one of the biggest competitions across 34 sports: from swimming, soccer, extreme bike, weightlifting, trampoline and much more!
  • Defend your own country and visit the World: United States, Australia, Japan, France…
  • Train yourself alone or compete with your friends!
  • An enhanced version of “30 Sport Games in 1”, with revamped design, new games and more customisation!
  • Investigation: the player pieces together a place’s history and the mystery behind its supernatural threat.
  • Stealth and avoidance: danger is managed by hiding, sneaking and reading an environment rather than simply defeating enemies.
  • Puzzles: progress depends on noticing clues, finding objects and understanding how spaces connect.
  • Atmosphere over firepower: dread comes from sound, darkness, pursuit and uncertainty.
  • A supernatural setting: the threat is an entity or haunting, not a conventional human combat scenario.

No released game reproduces all of those elements in the same Chinese-town, first-person package. The recommendations are therefore feature-based matches, not claims that any title directly inspired Jiaohun or is an equivalent.

1. Fear the Spotlight: the closest stealth-and-puzzle match

Why it fits

The official PlayStation description presents Fear the Spotlight as a creepy love letter to classic 1990s horror. It explicitly combines rich storytelling, puzzle solving and a tense atmosphere. It also describes stealth sequences in which Vivian sneaks to avoid detection by an unknown entity. The Steam community description adds a clear setup: you enter a school after hours, survive a séance gone wrong and solve tactile puzzles.

That combination maps neatly to the Jiaohun request. You investigate a location with a buried story, encounter a supernatural threat, and use observation and movement rather than straightforward combat. The school is not Fairy Town, and the scenario is rooted in 1990s-style horror rather than a Chinese turn-of-the-millennium mystery, but the player rhythm is similar: explore, notice an unusual clue, solve a physical problem, then decide whether it is safe to move.

The important difference: third-person presentation

Fear the Spotlight is third-person, while Jiaohun is planned as first-person. A third-person camera lets you see the character and can make corners, hiding spots and enemy approaches easier to read. First-person horror usually makes distance and visibility feel more personal because the threat occupies the same viewpoint as the player. If first-person immersion is non-negotiable, Still Wakes the Deep or Amnesia: The Bunker is a better mechanical fit.

Who should start here

  • Choose it if explicit, tactile puzzles matter as much as scares.
  • Choose it if you want a contained haunted-location story rather than an open-ended survival sandbox.
  • Choose it if a classic 1990s horror mood and a séance-based supernatural premise appeal to you.
  • Skip it as your first choice only if you require first-person camera play.

2. Still Wakes the Deep: first-person helplessness without combat

What the game offers

Still Wakes the Deep, developed by The Chinese Room and released on June 18, 2024, places you on the Beira D oil rig in 1975 as an otherworldly horror takes hold. Its official Steam description states: “No weapons. No powers. Just your wits and determination.” The listing also uses first-person, supernatural and stealth tags.

For a Jiaohun reader, the strongest overlap is viewpoint and vulnerability. You see the threat from inside the character’s perspective, have no conventional arsenal to fall back on, and must survive by moving carefully through a hostile environment. The oil rig is a radically different setting from a Chinese county town, and the narrative is a compact disaster-survival story rather than a broad investigation into local folklore.

How its puzzles compare

Do not buy Still Wakes the Deep expecting the explicit tactile-puzzle emphasis described for Fear the Spotlight. The official description foregrounds atmosphere, movement and survival; it does not promise a large catalogue of standalone puzzles. Its progression is better understood as authored environmental problem solving: reading the rig, finding a viable route and reacting to changing danger. That makes it a strong recommendation for tension and first-person stealth, but a conditional one for puzzle-heavy play.

Horror Tales: The Wine (PS5)
  • Mediterranean Horror: Explore the forsaken capital of an awe-inspiring archipelago. Do not let yourself be fooled by the gentle sea breeze, the Mediterranean vistas or the comforting summer sun. Since the Devil's Fevers pandemic ravaged the city, it was abandoned, and now only horrific nightmares await there.
  • Survive your Nemesis: Someone is relentlessly hunting you. Suffer and agonize while you try to run away from the encounters with this strange stalker obsessed with you.
  • Intense Challenges: Solve environmental riddles, physics puzzles and other similar challenges in an interconnected vertical world. Even while being chased and hunted.
  • Accessibility and Photomode: Tweak more than 20 Accessibility settings to create a tailored experience for you. Use the Photomode to make perfect shots and unlock many secrets using it.

Best use case

Pick Still Wakes the Deep when your priority order is first-person perspective, supernatural atmosphere and no-combat pressure. It is especially suitable for someone who wants the feeling of being trapped with an entity and relying on judgment rather than weapons. Pick another title if your main goal is collecting many objects, decoding clues or revisiting rooms to complete layered puzzles.

3. Amnesia: The Bunker: stealth, scarcity and environmental obstacles

Why its systems overlap

PC Gamer’s December 18, 2025 guide on stealth-horror games lists Amnesia: The Bunker as a standout for run-and-hide play. The game is set in a World War I French bunker and combines a persistent pursuer with limited inventory, fuel management, environmental hazards and padlocked doors. Those systems turn every detour into a decision: carrying one useful item may mean leaving another behind, and spending fuel or making noise can change how safely you can cross the bunker.

That is the strongest mechanical match for readers who define “like Jiaohun” as hiding while solving practical obstacles. You are not simply walking through a haunted story; you are planning routes, interpreting the environment and deciding when it is worth exposing yourself to danger. The bunker setting and wartime context are far removed from Jiaohun’s Chinese-town psychological mystery, so the similarity is in play structure rather than narrative theme.

What “puzzles” means here

Amnesia: The Bunker emphasizes environmental problem solving rather than a sequence of elaborate puzzle-box scenes. Padlocked doors, hazards, limited resources and the need to understand the bunker create obstacles that must be solved under pressure. The pursuer can make a familiar route unsafe, so a solution is not only “which item opens this door?” but also “can I obtain it and return before the threat arrives?”

Who will enjoy it

  • Resource-focused players: fuel and inventory limits make exploration consequential.
  • Pursuit-focused players: hiding and route choices matter more than scripted scares alone.
  • Players who like emergent tension: hazards and the pursuer can change how a problem is approached.

Choose another game if you want a clearly signposted investigation with a primarily authored sequence of story revelations. Amnesia: The Bunker is more systemic and survival-oriented.

4. Home Sweet Home: Asian supernatural horror with hiding and item hunting

Core features

The available reference describes Home Sweet Home (2017) as a survival-horror game centered on stealth, hiding and finding diary pages, articles or puzzle items. Those elements make it relevant to a Jiaohun search even though the documented information here is less detailed than for the other recommendations. The Asian supernatural context is the key point of distinction: it offers a setting and folklore frame closer in broad cultural region to Jiaohun than a haunted American-style school, an oil rig or a World War I bunker.

Its item-driven structure also supports the “investigate a mystery while avoiding entities” fantasy. Diary pages and articles can provide context, while puzzle items turn exploration into a search for relationships between objects and locations. Hiding keeps the focus on surviving an encounter rather than winning a firefight.

What is not established

The reference does not establish a current platform list, storefront status, camera details or a specific puzzle count. Verify those points for your region before purchase. Do not assume that an Asian setting alone means Home Sweet Home uses the same folklore, time period or narrative approach as Jiaohun; the supported comparison is limited to supernatural atmosphere, hiding and item-based investigation.

When to choose it

Start with Home Sweet Home if the regional supernatural frame and avoidance-based play matter more than a documented first-person specification or a tightly defined puzzle catalogue. If you need confirmed first-person play, the explicit official descriptions for Still Wakes the Deep or the documented stealth-and-puzzle design of Fear the Spotlight provide firmer choices.

How the four games differ on the features Jiaohun promises

Viewpoint and immersion

Jiaohun and Still Wakes the Deep are first-person. That perspective keeps the player’s view aligned with the character and can make an unseen entity feel close because the camera cannot look around the character from outside. Fear the Spotlight is third-person, which changes how you read spaces and threats. The available reference does not specify Home Sweet Home’s viewpoint, so treat camera similarity as unconfirmed.

Stealth agency

All four recommendations emphasize avoidance, but they deliver it differently. Fear the Spotlight describes Vivian sneaking to avoid detection. Still Wakes the Deep frames stealth as part of a no-weapons, no-powers survival experience. Amnesia: The Bunker adds limited defensive options, a pursuer, fuel management and hazards, making stealth a resource problem as well as a movement problem. Home Sweet Home is described around hiding and stealth, with item searches occurring between encounters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Puzzle density

Fear the Spotlight has the clearest official promise of tactile puzzles. Amnesia: The Bunker provides locked doors and environmental obstacles, but its resource and pursuit systems are equally important. Jiaohun’s official description emphasizes investigation and uncovering stories; it does not yet specify how many puzzles there will be or how they will work. Still Wakes the Deep is primarily an atmosphere and survival recommendation because its official description does not promise a large puzzle catalogue. Home Sweet Home is associated with diary pages, articles and puzzle items in the available reference, although the scope of those systems is not stated.

Story shape and setting

Jiaohun is a planned mystery in Fairy Town, Baishoi County, China, on the eve of the new millennium. Fear the Spotlight uses an after-hours school and a séance gone wrong. Still Wakes the Deep is a 1975 oil-rig disaster involving an otherworldly horror. Amnesia: The Bunker is a World War I French military setting where survival logistics shape exploration. Home Sweet Home supplies an Asian supernatural frame but has less documented detail in the available material.

Choose the right alternative by priority

Your top priority Start with Reason Trade-off
Stealth plus explicit puzzles Fear the Spotlight Official descriptions specifically combine stealth, puzzle solving, story and atmosphere. Third-person rather than first-person.
First-person, no weapons and supernatural tension Still Wakes the Deep Its official description stresses first-person stealth and “No weapons. No powers.” More linear and disaster-focused; puzzle depth is not clearly promised.
Hiding under resource pressure Amnesia: The Bunker Fuel, inventory, hazards, locked doors and a pursuer make every route a decision. World War I bunker setting and systemic survival structure differ from Jiaohun’s town mystery.
Asian supernatural atmosphere Home Sweet Home Its documented stealth, hiding and item-finding loop sits in an Asian horror context. Current availability and several technical details require verification.

What to check before buying or waiting

Platform and release status

Jiaohun is planned for PC through Steam and PlayStation 5, with a planned 2027 release. “Planned” is not a firm launch commitment. Wishlist or follow the official listing if you want release updates, and recheck the date when you are ready to buy. The comparison games are released or listed products, but storefront availability, editions and regional access can change.

Camera preference

Decide whether first-person perspective is essential. If it is, prioritize Still Wakes the Deep or Amnesia: The Bunker based on whether you want linear survival or resource-driven exploration. If you can accept third-person, Fear the Spotlight is the most directly documented stealth-and-puzzle match.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Puzzle expectations

Look for the exact type of problem solving you enjoy. “Puzzle” can mean tactile object interactions, locating a key for a padlocked route, interpreting environmental hazards or collecting documents that reveal a story. Fear the Spotlight is the clearest choice for tactile puzzles; Amnesia: The Bunker is strongest when you enjoy solving obstacles while being hunted.

  • Visual Improvements: Appreciate incredible high fidelity when you play on a PS5 console including updated dirt and grass, combined with real-time physics, making for an advanced level of detail.

Intensity and pacing

Stealth horror can be stressful in different ways. A compact authored narrative such as Still Wakes the Deep generally delivers controlled pacing. A resource system such as Amnesia: The Bunker can create repeated tension because fuel, inventory and pursuit remain relevant across exploration. Read the current store descriptions and content information for each game if you have specific sensitivity concerns.

Practical play strategies for stealth-and-puzzle horror

Read the room before touching anything

Pause at each new area and identify exits, hiding places, locked routes and objects that look deliberately placed. Horror games often make the safest path visible only after you understand where you could retreat. In a resource-driven game, this scan also prevents wasting fuel or carrying an item away from the place where it is useful.

Separate story clues from progression items

Documents, diary pages and articles may explain the mystery without opening a door. Keep track of both categories: one tells you why the haunting exists, while the other changes what you can do next. This distinction reduces backtracking and helps you notice when a clue is narrative rather than a key.

Use stealth as information gathering

Hiding is not only a defensive action. Observe how an entity searches, which sounds attract it and how long a route remains safe. In Still Wakes the Deep, the lack of weapons makes this mindset essential. In Amnesia: The Bunker, it also informs decisions about fuel, noise and whether a detour is worth the risk.

Do not spend scarce resources to remove a small inconvenience

When a game limits fuel, inventory or defensive options, reserve them for obstacles that genuinely change your route. A locked door may have another entrance; a noisy action may be avoidable after you inspect the room. Resource pressure is designed to make you choose, not to make every interaction consume something.

Bottom line: which game should you play first?

Play Fear the Spotlight first if your ideal Jiaohun substitute is a supernatural investigation with explicit puzzles and stealth, and you can accept a third-person camera. Choose Still Wakes the Deep for first-person, no-combat helplessness and a tightly authored supernatural survival story. Choose Amnesia: The Bunker for the deepest overlap in hiding, pursuit, environmental obstacles and resource decisions. Choose Home Sweet Home when an Asian supernatural setting and item-based investigation are the deciding factors, after confirming current availability and platform details.

Jiaohun remains the only title in this group built around Fairy Town and its planned Chinese turn-of-the-millennium mystery. Until its 2027 release arrives, these games let you sample the specific ingredients—first-person vulnerability, stealth, supernatural investigation and environmental problem solving—that make the upcoming game appealing.
