Games Like Guns of Eschaton: The Best Alternatives for Its Soulslike Gunplay

Short answer: Remnant: From the Ashes is the closest available overall substitute for Guns of Eschaton because it combines punishing combat, firearms, monster-filled exploration, gear builds and drop-in co-op. Choose Hunt: Showdown 1896 if the first-person Western-horror atmosphere and tense period guns matter most. Choose Remnant II for a larger, more build-focused co-op progression loop.

Guns of Eschaton itself is still pending release. Its demo launched on Steam on October 5, 2026, and a publisher announcement dated October 15, 2026 gives December 8, 2026 as the planned launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date and platform list can change, so treat the demo and the announced full game as separate things.

What makes Guns of Eschaton difficult to replace

Guns of Eschaton is not simply a shooter with a dark setting. The Steam demo presents it as a first-person Soulslike shooter, while its feature list combines deliberate learning, firearms, parries, dashes, limited ammunition, enemy weaknesses, character builds, bullet time, gun customization, meaningful choices and multiple endings. The planned full game is described as having more than 20 firearms, a Codex for studying weaknesses, armor, consumables and occult talismans.

The structure matters as much as the weapons. The Steam product page describes solo and co-op progression through the story, plus a PvP invasion system. Windows Central’s June 30, 2026 preview describes both solo play and two-player co-op with full campaign progression. In other words, the target experience is a campaign Soulslike in which you learn enemy patterns, manage resources and develop a build while still fighting with guns in an alternate-history Western apocalypse.

No released game matches every one of those elements. The alternatives below are therefore grouped by the part of the formula you want to preserve rather than presented as identical replacements.

What the demo can and cannot tell you

The Steam demo is the practical way to test whether the basic first-person gunplay appeals to you before the full release. It is a playable sample, not a guarantee that the final game already contains the complete arsenal, every ending or the full progression system. Features such as more than 20 firearms, the full Codex, armor and occult talismans are descriptions of the planned game rather than a checklist you should assume is complete in the demo.

That distinction is important when comparing alternatives. A demo can show the feel of aiming, movement, parrying, dashing and resource pressure, but it cannot establish how every choice changes the campaign or how the invasion system will operate at launch. It also cannot confirm final balance, performance, pricing, editions or cross-platform availability. Check the current Steam listing and the publisher’s latest announcement for those details.

If you want something with a complete progression loop today, the two Remnant games are safer recommendations. If you want the closest first-person atmosphere while waiting, Hunt: Showdown 1896 is available as an established competitive game, but its match structure is fundamentally different.

Best alternatives at a glance

Game Camera Primary structure What it shares with Guns of Eschaton Main compromise
Remnant: From the Ashes Third-person Solo or co-op action shooter with dynamically generated worlds Demanding combat, guns, monsters, exploration, builds, bosses and campaign co-op It is not first-person and its setting is a broader post-apocalyptic multiverse rather than a Western apocalypse
Hunt: Showdown 1896 First-person Competitive PvPvE bounty-hunting and extraction matches Period firearms, hostile supernatural creatures, Western-horror mood and high weapon tension It is competitive multiplayer rather than a story-first Soulslike campaign
Remnant II Third-person Co-op-focused action RPG shooter with Archetype progression Gun-based Soulslike combat, dangerous worlds, bosses, build crafting and cooperative progression It keeps the third-person camera and does not reproduce the Western setting or first-person presentation

Availability for the existing games depends on the current edition, platform and region. The information above is about each game’s defining structure, not a promise that every edition is sold everywhere.

1. Remnant: From the Ashes is the closest overall substitute

Why it fits

The official description calls Remnant: From the Ashes a third-person survival action shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters. You can play alone or with up to two other players, and its worlds are dynamically generated, changing maps, encounters, quests and events between runs. That combination makes it the strongest existing answer for someone asking for a difficult gun game with Soulslike learning, monster encounters, exploration, equipment progression and campaign co-op.

Its combat rewards reading attacks, choosing when to take a shot and preparing for each boss rather than simply holding down the trigger. Firearms are central, but survival depends on positioning, timing, weapon choices and a build that fits the encounter. Those are the same decision points that make Guns of Eschaton‘s advertised ammunition limits, enemy weaknesses and parrying system sound distinctive.

How its structure changes the experience

Dynamic generation gives Remnant a replayable quality that a choice-driven authored campaign may not share. Maps, encounters, quests and events can change, so a second run is not merely a faster trip through an identical route. That is useful if you want a game to keep producing unfamiliar combat situations while you refine a loadout. It is less useful if your priority is seeing a specific chain of choices lead to a particular ending.

Co-op is also built into the adventure rather than bolted onto a competitive mode. You can approach the campaign alone or bring up to two other players, making it the most direct substitute for the advertised full-story co-op in Guns of Eschaton. The trade-off is that the third-person camera exposes your character and equipment instead of placing you inside a first-person gunfight.

Where it differs

The camera is the immediate difference. Remnant is third-person, so you see your character, armor and weapons rather than experiencing the fight through a first-person view. Its procedural world structure also means that exploration and encounters can vary, whereas Guns of Eschaton is presented as a authored alternate-history Western campaign with choices and multiple endings.

The setting is not a Western either. The game moves through post-apocalyptic environments and monster-filled dimensions rather than the grim frontier described for Guns of Eschaton. If your priority is the mechanical loop of learning bosses, upgrading gear and shooting through dangerous areas with friends, that difference is manageable. If the first-person view and Western identity are non-negotiable, use the next recommendation instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who should choose it

  • Choose it for the closest all-round replacement available now.
  • Choose it when co-op campaign progression matters more than camera perspective.
  • Choose it if you want repeatable worlds with changing encounters rather than one fixed route.
  • Skip it if you specifically need first-person gun handling or an alternate-history Western.

2. Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the best first-person Western-horror match

Why it fits

Crytek describes Hunt: Showdown 1896 as a competitive first-person PvP bounty-hunting game with heavy PvE elements. It brings the closest combination of first-person presentation, period firearms, supernatural enemies and oppressive Western-horror atmosphere to the list.

That makes every shot feel consequential. You are dealing with hostile creatures as well as other hunters, so sound, sightlines, ammunition decisions and the risk of exposing your position all matter. For a reader whose main wish is to handle old-world guns in a bleak frontier full of monsters, Hunt captures the mood more directly than either Remnant game.

The structural difference you must understand

Hunt is not a campaign Soulslike. Its core loop is competitive PvPvE bounty hunting and extraction: human opponents are a central threat, and a successful match is not the same thing as clearing a story area and defeating a planned boss. The game therefore supplies tension through uncertainty and the possibility of losing a run, not through the checkpoint-and-progression structure associated with a traditional Soulslike.

It also does not match the advertised solo or co-op story progression of Guns of Eschaton. You should choose it for first-person gun tension, atmosphere and multiplayer danger, not because you expect a substitute for narrative choices, multiple endings or a personal campaign build.

Before buying, decide whether you actually want competitive pressure. A player who enjoys studying enemy weaknesses and retrying a boss may find Hunt‘s human opponents exciting, but someone seeking a private two-player story can find the extraction format demanding. The overlap is strongest in viewpoint, weapons and mood, not in progression or narrative structure.

  • Great Gift for Gamers: Makes a unique housewarming, holiday, or birthday gift—perfect for gaming bathrooms, kitchens, or display decor.

Who should choose it

  • Choose it if first-person perspective is more important than a Soulslike campaign.
  • Choose it for historical-Western horror, deliberate firearm handling and the pressure of human opponents.
  • Choose it when you want repeatable multiplayer matches rather than a fixed story route.
  • Skip it if you want guaranteed co-op progression through a narrative campaign or a PvP invasion layer attached to a single-player adventure.

3. Remnant II is the deeper co-op progression choice

Why it fits

Remnant II continues the gun-based Soulslike shooter approach with dangerous creatures, powerful bosses and worlds built around survival. The official Remnant site highlights Archetypes with independent progression and their own traits, perks and skills. That gives the sequel a more explicit framework for experimenting with roles and builds while playing cooperatively.

For someone waiting for Guns of Eschaton because of its character customization, equipment choices and co-op progression, Remnant II offers the most substantial long-term build path in this group. You can tune an Archetype-oriented setup around how you want to fight, then adjust it as new encounters expose weaknesses in your current approach.

It is a good choice for a group that wants to keep developing characters after the first few sessions. Independent Archetype progression, traits, perks and skills give each player a way to define a role, while the dangerous worlds and god-like bosses provide targets for testing that build. That is a closer match for long-term cooperative planning than a match-based shooter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where it differs

Like its predecessor, Remnant II uses a third-person camera. Its worlds and mythology are not the alternate-history Western of Guns of Eschaton, and the available material does not establish that it reproduces the announced game’s bullet-time system, Codex, parrying model, multiple endings or invasion feature.

It is best understood as a mechanical alternative: a modern, co-op-focused gun Soulslike with deeper progression, not a first-person Western replacement. Select it when the build system is the feature you would miss most, and do not expect period firearms or a frontier story to be part of the deal.

Who should choose it

  • Choose it if build experimentation and co-op progression are your top priorities.
  • Choose it if you want a newer continuation of the Remnant formula rather than the original game’s more compact structure.
  • Choose it when you can accept third-person combat and a setting unrelated to the Western frontier.
  • Skip it if your main requirement is first-person immersion or a story built around Western folklore and firearms.

How the combat loops compare

Feature Guns of Eschaton Remnant: From the Ashes Hunt: Showdown 1896 Remnant II
Viewpoint First-person Third-person First-person Third-person
Combat emphasis Soulslike learning with guns, parries, dashes, ammunition limits and enemy weaknesses Survival-shooter encounters, exploration and boss fights Competitive gunfights mixed with PvE threats Gun-based Soulslike encounters, bosses and Archetype-driven builds
Campaign progression Advertised solo and co-op story progression Solo or co-op play; dynamically generated worlds Match-based bounty and extraction structure Co-op-oriented action RPG progression
World and tone Grim alternate-history Western apocalypse Post-apocalyptic monster worlds Historical-Western supernatural horror Dangerous worlds with deadly creatures and god-like bosses
Player-versus-player element PvP invasion system advertised on the Steam page Not established in the supplied description Human opponents are central to the PvPvE format Not established in the supplied description

The table shows why there is no single perfect substitute. Hunt shares the camera and mood, while the Remnant games share more of the progression and cooperative combat logic.

Choose by the feature you care about most

If you want the closest Soulslike gunplay

Start with Remnant: From the Ashes. It is the clearest match for difficult fights, firearms, monstrous enemies, equipment development and cooperative exploration. Accept the third-person camera as the price of that match.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you want first-person Western horror

Pick Hunt: Showdown 1896. Its first-person viewpoint, period weapons and supernatural frontier atmosphere are the strongest overlap with Guns of Eschaton. Go in expecting competitive extraction matches rather than campaign checkpoints and multiple endings.

If you want the deepest co-op build system

If you want to play before the full game launches

The playable option directly connected to Guns of Eschaton is its Steam demo, released October 5, 2026. It should not be treated as proof that every promised full-game feature is already present. The publisher’s announced full release is December 8, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; verify the current listing because launch plans and platform availability are time-sensitive.

If you want a specific multiplayer experience

For a story you can advance with friends, begin with either Remnant game. For competitive encounters in which other players are always part of the danger, choose Hunt. For invasions inside a campaign-style game, wait for more information about Guns of Eschaton‘s advertised system rather than assuming another title works the same way.

What to check before buying or installing

  • Camera: Decide whether first-person immersion is essential. Only Guns of Eschaton and Hunt are first-person in this comparison; both Remnant games are third-person.
  • Multiplayer type: Campaign co-op, competitive PvPvE and a PvP invasion system create very different kinds of pressure. Do not assume that a game described as multiplayer offers the same progression model as another.
  • Replay structure: Remnant: From the Ashes emphasizes dynamically changing worlds. Hunt revolves around repeatable matches. Guns of Eschaton is advertised around a choice-driven campaign with multiple endings.
  • Setting: Western atmosphere ranges from an alternate-history apocalypse to historical supernatural horror. The Remnant games are post-apocalyptic but not Western adventures.
  • Progression: Look for the system you actually want: gear and encounter learning in Remnant, Archetypes and role-building in Remnant II, or match-earned tension in Hunt. The announced title adds character customization, gun customization, armor, consumables, talismans and a weakness-studying Codex.
  • Edition and region: Existing releases can have different editions and platform availability. Check the current store listing for your region rather than relying on an old product description.
  • Price and release status: Prices, discounts, bundles and platform listings change. Guns of Eschaton‘s December 8, 2026 date is an announcement, not a permanent guarantee, and the demo is not the same product as the full game.

Bottom line: which game should you play?

Remnant: From the Ashes is the best recommendation for most people asking for a game like Guns of Eschaton. It preserves the important combination of guns, punishing monster combat, exploration, builds and co-op, even though it is played from behind the character.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the better answer for players who would sacrifice campaign progression to keep the first-person view, period weapons and Western-horror tension. Remnant II is the stronger choice for a newer, more expansive co-op progression path built around Archetypes.

Meanwhile, Guns of Eschaton remains the only title in this group promising the complete combination of first-person Soulslike combat, an apocalyptic Western setting, meaningful choices, multiple endings, limited ammunition, parries, bullet time and an invasion system. Its demo is available on Steam, while the announced full launch is scheduled for December 8, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, subject to change.
