Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you want another open-world samurai adventure after Ghost of Yōtei, start with Rise of the Ronin. For a different part of the experience, choose Assassin’s Creed Shadows for stealth and two contrasting protagonists, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for demanding sword combat, or Ghost of Tsushima for the series’ earlier story and setting. None is a perfect substitute; the best fit depends on what you want to carry forward.
Choose by what you want more of
| If you want… | Try | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Another open-world samurai adventure | Rise of the Ronin | A games-like comparison identifies it as the closest match to Ghost of Yōtei for open-world samurai play. That is a preference-led comparison, not a claim that the games are mechanically identical. Source |
| More stealth and a choice between contrasting protagonists | Assassin’s Creed Shadows | The comparison highlights its stronger stealth emphasis and two contrasting protagonists. Choose it for those elements rather than as an exact equivalent. Source |
| Focused, more demanding sword combat | Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | It is recommended for its combat focus and challenge—not as an open-world counterpart. Source |
| The Ghost series’ earlier setting and design lineage | Ghost of Tsushima | It offers the earlier story and context, though playing it is not required to understand Yōtei. PlayStation |
Rise of the Ronin: the closest open-world samurai match
Pick Rise of the Ronin if your main priority is finding another open-world samurai game. It is the most direct recommendation for that combination, but the comparison available does not establish that it shares Yōtei’s precise combat, story structure, or atmosphere. Think of it as the closest broad match, not a one-for-one replacement. Comparison source

Assassin’s Creed Shadows: stealth and two perspectives
If sneaking and switching between contrasting protagonists sound more appealing than preserving a specifically samurai feel, consider Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The comparison points to its stronger stealth emphasis and two protagonists as the reasons to choose it. Those are distinct attractions; they do not make it mechanically identical to Ghost of Yōtei. Choose Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice when what you want next is focused, demanding sword combat. Its recommendation is about that combat emphasis, not about matching Yōtei as an open-world adventure. If broad exploration is the feature you most want to keep, Rise of the Ronin is the closer fit among these options. Comparison source

Ghost of Tsushima: return to the series’ earlier story
Ghost of Tsushima is the choice for more of the Ghost series’ historical setting and design lineage. Sony describes Ghost of Yōtei as a standalone experience set in rural Japan in the 1600s, 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch has clarified that Yōtei is not a direct story sequel and that Jin Sakai does not appear in the original game. Playing the earlier title is therefore optional context, not a prerequisite. Sony’s announcement · PlayStation game page
What Ghost of Yōtei is—and what its similarities do not mean
Ghost of Yōtei launched worldwide for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025. Sony describes Atsu as a wandering mercenary seeking vengeance and redemption; the game is set in 1600s rural Japan, three centuries after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. Its standalone story makes it possible to start with Yōtei without first playing the earlier game. Sony’s launch announcement

The comparison recommendations come from secondary games-like coverage, not hands-on testing for this article; treat them as ways to narrow your choice rather than objective rankings.
