Which music game fits your group?
| Game | Best for | How friends play | Equipment and caveats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite Festival | Playing rhythm charts and casually remixing music together | Up to four players in Main Stage or Jam Stage; Jam Stage supports up to four Jams at once, according to Epic’s party-size details and Jam Stage guide. | Epic Games Store lists it as free to play. That does not mean every track or add-on is free. [Epic Games Store] |
| Rock Band 4 | Playing as a conventional band with music-game instruments | PlayStation lists online network play for two to four players; Xbox lists local multiplayer for two to six. | Platform listings describe support for compatible guitars, drums, and USB microphones. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer on PlayStation. [PlayStation; Xbox] |
| RoBeats | Rhythm and dance-battle play in Roblox | The Roblox listing advertises battles for up to four players. | The listing establishes a battle format, not equivalence to Festival’s licensed-song performance or remix features. [Roblox] |
What makes Fortnite Festival the closest match?
Epic describes Fortnite Festival as a music-based rhythm experience inside Fortnite. Main Stage is for playing along with licensed songs and Fortnite tracks, while Jam Stage lets friends combine Jam Loops. That gives the game two different group activities: following a chart together or experimenting with a shared musical mix.

Epic says Main Stage and Jam Stage parties can include up to four players, and its Jam Stage guide says up to four different Jams can play simultaneously. If your friends want a common music space that includes both performance and casual collaboration, Festival is the most direct fit among these options.
When Rock Band 4 is a better choice
Choose Rock Band 4 if the appeal is a familiar band setup rather than a shared remix space. Its platform listings describe compatible guitars, drums, and USB microphones. PlayStation lists online network play for two to four players and requires PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer; Xbox lists local multiplayer for two to six players. Check the store listing for your specific platform and setup before planning a session.

- Chop flying veggies, flap along with birds of a feather, and more to catchy original music—including tracks by renowned Japanese musician Tsunku♂
- Nintendo Switch Games: Please visit this game’s page on the official Nintendo website for the most up-to-date compatibility information.
Dedicated instruments are not a general requirement for comparing these games, but they are central to the instrument-led Rock Band experience. If you already own compatible gear, that can make Rock Band 4 a practical choice; the available player counts and connection options differ by platform.
When RoBeats is worth considering
RoBeats is a distinct option for groups that already play on Roblox and want competitive rhythm or dance battles. Its official Roblox listing advertises battles for up to four players. The listing does not establish that it offers the same licensed-song performance or friend-made mashups as Festival, so choose it for the battle format rather than as a like-for-like substitute.

Do you need music-game instruments for Festival?
No dedicated instrument is necessary for the basic comparison here. Hardware matters if you specifically want to play Festival’s Pro Drums mode. Epic says Pro Drums was designed to work with existing wireless Rock Band 4 drum peripherals and MIDI kits with proper configuration, but compatibility depends on the exact setup. Check Epic’s compatibility table before buying or configuring a kit.
